Definitely didn’t see this coming 🙄 how annoying.
Napheesa Collier winning this thing and getting $200,000 would absolutely be my villain origin story.

THEY WERE PLAYING HER IN A DOUBLE PIVOT WITH KYRA AS A 6?
Girl it might be the cold meds I’ve been taking all weekend but what is going on in the House of Commons ?
You know how I know Arsenal is going to fumble nighswonger? Cause where the fuck are they playing her?!? Honestly she should be at Frida’s position if you’re going to have her in the midfield , but jfc she’s a left footed left back/winger. Also one of the few making runs in the midfield instead of just passing to the mystery invisible 13th player in open space on the pitch.
I know she’s gonna have a learning curve, so I’m not suspecting much but I’m laughing so hard rn at the girls passing to the same 3 people and fumbling so much space. Instead of “Where in the world is Carmen San Diego?” it’s “Where in the world am I going to place this ball to only play it up Foord’s side of the pitch, but then only give her 0 players in support?” Going to be a looooong 2nd 45.

Welp. We’ve got nobody else to blame but ourselves. Playing Stina today at the 9 for as long as they did was definitely a choice.
We need somebody on this team to have a little bit of bite. Poor Mariona has been running around doing everybody’s job. Also, Renee needs to sub someone for Stina at the 9. If we’re going to play this way, maybe let Beth take a smack at her old haunt?

Crystal just did an interview post PSG signing (I told y’all) and said “My family supports me and is coming with me. It was important to me to find a club that trusts me as a player but also accepts that i’m coming with my family.” Based on the wording of that, Pierre HAS to have been a major reason for her fallout with Gotham. And if that’s the case, i’m team Gotham.
Anon! The wizardry continues 👑 But seriously, the fact that she even said it like that in the PSG press release it’s just wild to me. Like it’s bad enough that your husband was in the wrong, and kind of shame on Gotham for giving into giving him a “consulting job”, but the fact that he’s so friggin wrong and you’re just gonna stand there and act like whatever situation was created because of the obstinance of it all is OK is blowing my mind. I saw a comment somewhere online that was like I wonder what her career would’ve been like if he never came into her life, and I hate to be that bitch, but I wonder that too. Two things can be true at once, so I’m not totally absolving Gotham for any crazy behind-the-scenes just yet , but in this situation seems like they dodged a bullet

Walsh’s fee now about 400k….weren’t we kinda like just offering a cool milli for her and Barca rejected our offer? Clare count your f’in days ya numpty.
clare needs to go no question but i think we have to consider that this is still a business. yes girma is one of thevery best players in the world. but we also have about 3-4 great centre backs, most of whom probably are being payed decently sized salaries. one player wouldn't change everything. spending a ton of money on a centre back when what we really need is a winger and a proper defensive midfielder, doesn't make sense from a business perspective. a business has to have priorities and i for one much prefer the priority being developing an existing team over buying trophies
150% agree with you there, anon. I think the Girma situation, compounded with the theoretical Viv, Mariona, Walsh situations, has larger implications for the long run. I’m more concerned on the loosing on players we do need because our front office is incompetent in some ways. The narratives constantly contradict themselves, but what do we know as fans/members of the public 🤷🏻‍♀️
Why is it teams like Chelsea can get all of these top names and Arsenal has had a suspiciously quiet transfer window thus far? There’s so much good about Arsenal, but what is the pièce de résistance that’s going to make them next level? As an aside, their track record on developing young talent (both academy and international) has been on the outs for a bit too…so for me it seems like they’re not doing enough to bolster the obvious spots if they’re not making moves for outside talent.
While we do need a solid 6, like yesterday lol, I think our winger problem is slightly more dire. Not sure if you had the will to sit through yesterday’s game like I did, but it was BEGGING for a pacy, more defensive forward type player out on the wing.
Sorry for the rant lol but I love having people to talk to about this.

Also anon, are you a wizard? media’s saying she’s due to undergo her physical at PSG today. 🙃
Maybe because she didn’t play a single game of soccer for her club team from August to November for seemingly no reason and has forced her husband into the staff of both of her most recent clubs when he’s done absolutely fuck all to deserve it. We have outgrown the need for Crystal Dunn. Go to France, girly, nobody is giving your drug peddling husband a job in this league again.
👀 but really lol
I always like to give people the benefit of the doubt and try my hardest not to speculate why they might be out or not. People go through crazy and terribly private things and maybe I’m a softie for trying to think about all the things with a little empathy? As the months went on however, I started to not feel this way with this situation though.
There is, unfortunately, a pattern of maybe not so coincidental things with the teams she’s been on in the past that seems to keep happening. I’m hella sensitive so maybe a little timid on fully addressing this topic anon (cause I don’t want to get my ass kicked on this subject…people can be so pro “how dare you say anything bad!”). I’ve always felt that it was also weird how Emma Hayes was the one to convert her to left back and that’s been her mainstay position on the national team for at least 7 ish years, yet on the club side it’s been a harsh point of contention. I guess you would be stupid to say no if that was the way you would see time on the field with the national team, and people have the right to say how they feel, but it seems to me that maybe she thought she could say what she wanted to about the subject on the club level and not really ever be challenged on it? Crystal never even met expectations at Portland for me as an attacking player, let alone at the few games she played at Gotham. I may be an ass for saying this, but I feel like she got outplayed at her position and didn’t like the lack of minutes she was getting.
Now I hate talking about that man she’s married to because I think he’s an absolute jackass, but few people also touch on the fact that they met while she was a player and he was on staff on the Spirit….and then he magically got a job at every club she went to after that. The amount of red flags that raises is unreal.
I also found her instagram story to be incredibly immature. Like you are Crystal Dunn and there’s no need for you to go there yet you did? Be for real. I wish her the best, but the nosy bitch part of me wants to know what happened behind the scenes. I have a feeling that unless she talks we’ll never know. Gotham certainly won’t say anything given how theyve navigated Lynn’s bad culture comments.

Is there a reason no trades got accomplished? I mean Gotham still let her go (which seemed like what she might’ve wanted?) so am I crazy to assume that whatever Gotham wanted for her wasn’t exactly what was holding the deals up?

I'm the previous anon about Jonas and I hate to give him credit too, but he is right about the sporting director. It reminds me of that phrase a stopped clock is right twice a day lol Yeah I agree about the difficulties being tied to Premier League teams. Kaz Carney talked about it in a documentary she did recently about the state of women's football. Lots of the lower tier women's team are fully dependent on the mens team, so if they need to cost cut, generally they'll cut the women's teams. It's awful. I do think that it's quite common across all of Europe for the women to be attached to men's teams. There's pro's and con's to it. I'm hoping in the long run it'll ultimately help the sport grow. With the WSL we literally only just got people who are treating it like an actual investment/business.
I really wish the sport grows from the big outside investments too. $60 million from Barclays last September and there were rumors of Chelsea exploring selling a stake in the women’s side last June….all steps in the right direction. I liked the socio part of the socioeconomic changes that the Euros win started to push forward, but it’s tough to have people invest in the long term when a bulk of the attitude and beliefs are (as we both agree) fairly newish. What gets me absolutely mental is when the men’s club will take their punitive damages and use those as the excuse to stall investment in their women’s teams. Just look at the divide with teams like Reading for example…fucking atrocious the entire situation. In other places in Europe, it’s not so different either. Real Madrid is now going after Liga F to stop funding the women’s program entirely. The benchmarks for acceptance and operation are entirely too arbitrary for the women’s game.
Even in places like the US, who has been somewhat of a pioneer of the fight for equity and equality in the women’s game, the same problems crop up.
Investment is great, but not all investment is good investment. Hopefully we can get to a place where good investment is the primary articulation on our needs list.
