Ok, so not as bad as that could’ve been. Commentators were bang on about Gotham’s midfield, but what’s new? Without Lilly’s OG, this is a 1-0 loss at home against a team who’s current champions and been together for a few years or so. Aaaaand that other goal was a penalty. Thought Bru brought a little dazzle to the back line in the dying minutes of the game, and am wondering if JC would ever try Ella at the 9 again and maybe Esther somewhere in that false 9/10 role? I think sometimes Ella gets lost a little bit when she has to pan out wide, and really her renaissance began last year when she moonlighted at the 9 for a few games. For that matter, when Midge gets to full strength does Portilho play the 10?

Hopefully this is all just kinks in the system working their way out. Always want Gotham to win, but with a lot of new players this realistically is going to be a quite painful beginning to a long season.

That was, quite frankly, the most frustrating match I’ve watched in a long time. Not a single person looked like they were ready to play nor did anyone realize that you have to move the ball forwards and not backwards. The poor pitch is not an excuse, and I really hope the club makes changes come June. Poor Mariona had to run everywhere to even get a toe on the ball….not sure how Renee keeps making these frustratingly ridiculous tactical decisions. A player like Jenna or Codi (if healthy) could’ve come into this game to give the defense a break/a different look. Alsoooooo…..How do you have your best goal scorer drop positions so you can play a player at the 9 who can’t even stay onside?

Well that game was anti climactic. How Huitema didn’t get a second yellow is a head scratcher. As much as I expected from Gotham considering they have half of a new team this year. Schupansky’s ceiling is waaaay high and I’m excited to see her grow as the season goes on. I would’ve liked to have seen Ella on the ball more and Gotham to have been a tad bit quicker to get the ball away from their own final third. I’d give it a B overall….on to next week!

The calls have been a little rough this game, but you cannot take a player out from behind and Seattle’s done it like 3 times right now. McClernon’s face though 😂😂😂😂

How is this true 2 weeks in a row? Renee if you aren’t looking for a winger and an entire midfield over the summer we got problems girlfriend. Also some players with some bite to them would be nice…like if we realized we were playing a move on or go home football match at the beginning of the match instead of the last 5 minutes of stoppage time we would be good to go.

It’s super frustrating to watch a really talented group of players look like statues in a wax museum for half the game just because there wasn’t a wide open player for them to pass the ball too.

Can’t even blame the ref on this one, honestly. Let’s hope UCONN comes through for me today 🤞🏻

I’m still standing by the fact that we need a 6 over the summer. As much as I like Wally and Kim, you can realllllly tell that we’re missing Kyra (and we need another someone who’s comfortable turning with or without space). Wally lost her mark on that corner and Kim is bungling passes in the midfield. The one thing I’ve not gotten with in the WSL, as an American, is the lackadaisical style of movement on the ball. There’s so much space that if you mixed in a little triangle or 1-2 passing, you’d be able to slice through the midfield/final third. How your goalie has more touches than your 9 is wiiiiild.

To clarify I am the OG 90s baby, but still consider my self at an age where the last 6 minutes of this game feel like it should be making my Apple Watch go crazy.
