'Humanity is innocent; humanity is guilty, and both states are undeniably true.' • What a challenging story. Dark and bloody. Morally provoking and corrupted conscience. It's interesting yet stressful at the same time, bracing the story with my own understanding of ethics and principles. • I'm starting on The Toll (Book 3) soon. Can't wait to see how the story will surprise me in the end. Will my heart and brain be able to withstand all?

5 sunny stars. Maybe some people are just meant to be in the same story. Help. I want to see every portraits and sculptures and feel them, breathe in every stories and fantasies behind the pieces. I want to watch the world through the twin's eyes and get overwhelmed in the colorful and colorless emotions. I'm overwhelmed by this blast of dreamy, passionate and romantic artistic vibe. Swoon. The idea of love is so strongly portrayed in the story. Different kind of love is beautifully emphasized from each characters in the story and it warms my heart to read. The story is written from the respective views of both the twin, taking turn after each other, distancing their stories with a time gap of three years. Life changing events and major circumstances take place in the twin's life, flipping everything upside down and forcing the twin to grow up and unravel the unknown. And slowly pieces from the past and present, from the living to dead, all come together and everything just fall into this blissful warmth.

'I'm merely reminding you to embrace who you are and surround yourself with the people who do the same.'
 Wise advice.
I don't know much about OCD. I have this general misconception everyone has about OCD and this book definitely open my eyes about it. I get to know many new things about it.
Sam definitely has a strong support system here. Sue is an amazing therapist. She is so supportive and approachable. I respect her continuous effort in guiding Sam, trying to help Sam to see herself in a better way. I really like this trustworthy connection between Sam and Sue, it's dependable and comfortable to be with. Sam's family is another strong support pillar too. I can see that Sam's mom is well trained enough to be able to handle Sam during her moments.
Oh and that 'downstairs'. I know that place is going to look stunning with all the words and papers and I want to go downstairs and hang out with those wonderful human beings. I love the one from Abigail, 'As If', it's so relatable.
If you really knew me,  If you could see inside,  You'd find shy and insecure and afraid.   Acting as if.
I don't enjoy the plot twist. I knock off a star because of it. It seems out of place and unnecessary. Sam already has too much up in her plate (dealing with her 'best friends', covering up for 'downstairs', fighting with her own streams of thoughts in her mind, striving for a swimming scholarship).
Anyway, I enjoy reading this. It's a heartwarming and encouraging book that comes with a lot of positive messages.

“Strange the Dreamer”, Laini Taylor
“You’re a storyteller. Dream up something wild and improbable,” she pleaded. “Something beautiful and full of monsters.”
“Beautiful and full of monsters?“
“All the best stories are.”

What a beautiful cover.
So this takes me around 80-90 pages to finally be in the story. The main characters moments are soft and sweet but unrealistic in a way. Those coincidental events, falling in love in a day span (just over a few hours actually). Quoting Daniel, "The odds have to be astronomical, right?" Yes, it is. Call me cold-hearted.
The author does a quite accurate portrayal of the Asian parents' views and stands on the future of their children. I kind of experience this parental expectations firsthand, I can totally relate the conflict Daniel is facing.
I would say this is a light-hearted book on young love and realistic issues of racism, multicultural society and flawed immigration system.

‘I know at the moment what he has given me and it’s not a chair. It’s an invitation, a welcome, the knowledge that I am accepted here. He hasn’t given me a place to sit. He’s given me a place to belong.’
I don’t know how to put words to express my love for this. But do prepare yourself reading this. This one is definitely an emotional ride and it tugs crazily on the heart. My heart still aches for the characters.
I like the writing style in this book. The author is such a brilliant storyteller, with her very engaging writing. I like how the author set up the direction and flow of the story. The plot moves on a constant pace, lures me into the story, draws out my emotions, holds me close with the characters.
The main characters here, Josh and Nastya are very complex, both having their own dark secrets and demons from the past haunting over their minds and souls. Our girl here is an easy to love character. She has gone through something terrible and it distresses her. She decides to run away from nightmare, to some place where nobody knows her story. Josh, another poor soul who is familiar with death. Everyone he loves has been taken away from his life, his grandparents, his parents and his sister. People leave him alone, in school everyone stay away from him and it intrigues me. Both the main characters are complicated, especially Nastya, with the mysterious vibe the author casted over her, makes me want to know everything about her. I have to applaud the author for such amazing character. We get to see many sides, different layers of the characters at the right moments. Those little moments, those unspoken words, those silent communications, those knowing glances between the characters are just so brilliantly placed and wonderfully written. I like how Josh and Nastya always come out witty and smart remarks, with sarcasm slicing up each other in every corner. The sarcasm and quirkiness are so on point and you can’t help yourself to laugh at it. I like the bitchiness, the calmness, the ignorance, the poker face and even the arrogance coming from both of them.
I like Clay’s presence in this book. He doesn’t appear much and he doesn’t do much yet he sees everything and catches every tiny details. He doesn’t interact much, always in the background, silently observes and captures them into his drawings. I just like that easy friendship and understanding he forms with Nastya, supportive and genuine.
I love, love, love the ending of the story. The last few words for the closure is so simple but it warms on my soul. It’s just so beautifully written.
