Hey folks, with the news that this February's Steam Next contains over 2500 games - it's pretty disappointing to say the least. While games are fantastic, and it's great that so many are being made - it also just makes it impossible for small indie games to get any sort of discoverability.

This is made worse by Generative AI which causes lists to be filled with phoned-in slop. While Steam has added an AI Generated Content Disclaimer on store pages, it's often hidden at the bottom and requires searching each store page individually.

I've written a post in their Suggestions / Ideas forum to allow players to filter out games made with Generative AI. As far as I'm concerned, it should work in a similar way to players being able to filter Adult/NSFW content.

I know I've said it before but every rewatch I do cements this thought further - elijah wood's performance in LOTR is absolutely insane, they really had a character whose name means "wise by experience", hired an 18-year-old to do it, and he delivered so much that not only is it a beautiful and moving role on its own, it's a performance equal to those of the absolute powerhouses he played side by side with like ian holm and ian mckellen. to name just a few

Keep calling it the Gulf of Mexico or whatever your term is for it. Do not allow the Republican regime to label that body of water the Gulf of America to the world. The name came from a the term Mexica, what the Aztecs called themselves. It’s been called the Gulf of Mexico since the 1600s.

Keep calling it Mount Denali. The original name before it was Mount McKinley. Don’t let the First Nations be erased.

It may sound stupid and petty. But it is an attempt to rewrite history and make us forget the origins. It is a literal white washing of history. This type of censorship is a beginning to greater evils.

Adding to this - my oma was long considered the oddity in her circle of long time friends, because her name was on the bank accounts and on the house. In the 60s, my grandparents had a young, fresh graduated banker who *insisted* on putting her name on as well.

Why did he insist? Because his dad died, and his mother lost everything. This was not an uncommon occurrence in the past; it was one of the biggest reasons why jewelry was such a major gift to give women. It gave them something that they could sell if they didn't get anything when their husband passed.

And know what? It happened to some of the extended friends my oma had, rhat were mutual friends with those same long time friends. She stopped being considered an oddity after that, because it made them realise what could happen to them, and that they could be on the house as well.

A reminder to the "the American government wouldn't..." crowd. They have. They have made their own internment camps before. They have rounded up innocent citizens and immigrants before. The victims of which are still alive to this day and trying to share their stories with the world, they have been trying to warn us for a long time. George Takei (as seen above) is a famous example of this. He has written about his experiences time and time again, even publishing a book talking about his time in these camps. He may be famous now, but at the time he was just another kid forced from his home. To this day he still firmly dedicates himself to trying to educate and inform people, trying to spread awareness with his platform. The American Government can and will do terrible things. Do not let anyone convince you otherwise.

I think people have truly lost any ability to be patient with storytelling.

‘I don’t understand this’ They’ll explain it if you wait.

‘I don’t like how this episode left things hanging’ There’s a continuation next week.

‘This character is flat’ Wait for them to be fleshed out.

So many of the complaints I see about shows lately are people being confused by things THAT THE SHOW WANTS YOU TO BE CONFUSED BY THATS THE FUN OF MYSTERY AND FORESHADOWING YOU ABSOLUTE GOBLINS THE MAIN CHARACTER IS ALSO CONFUSED AND THEYRE GONNA DO A BIG REVEAL AND EXPLANATION LATER IF YOU WOULD JUST FUCKING WAIT
