I am actually so serious I think it really messes with a childs creativity and joy to tell them to never make a mary sue OC. Like that unbridaled form of joy where you make a self insert OC who super cool and everyone loves them and they have every superpower in the world SHOULD be something a kid makes, it nourishes their ability to create things for fun and not be stifled by "oh but what if my character is too overpowered and cringey...". whatever

giving “unsolicited criticism” on someone’s fanfic doesn’t make you cool and your “suggestion” is definitely not helping the author lol

what fanfic is is 1.) free, 2.) something an artist writes for fun, 3.) their source of comfort and joy.

unless specifically asked, fanfic writers are not looking forward to hearing your unsolicited criticism, even if you do so “politely”. by reading someone’s fic, you ask the author to let you in their house and they let you in. if you end up not liking their place, you quietly leave. you don’t start telling them things you don’t like about their house.

“but I was being polite when I tell them their bed should be bigger” “I was saying it so nicely when I let them know pink did not suit their couch” no. you’re not helping. you’re just telling them they should adjust their place in order to fit your personal liking. it’s their house. not yours. build your own house instead of telling strangers how their houses should be.

if authors didn’t ask for your opinions and if you don’t have anything nice to say, be quiet.

fanfic writers are so fucking awesome man. they write novel length fics that are sometimes even better than some published bestselling books written by professional writers. like fanfic writers are professional writers to me and they gift us their masterpieces for free. they give us something we can look forward to after a long day. something from which we can seek comfort when life is hard. something that can be our own little getaway. in a world of capitalism, despite everything, they give us all of these for free. like holy fuck. shout out to every fanfic writer. I wish all fanfic writers a very ‘I love you with all my heart and soul. I thank you from the bottom of my heart’

Skylar is used to always being second best to his more popular twin sister, but when an award winning theatre group wants to host a charity show and offers him the chance to work with them, he's over the moon (pun intended). However he can't help but notice Johnny, the handsome piano player, and wonders if maybe, just maybe, he could find genuine happiness here. That is until family drama comes to rock the boat and soon both Johnny and Skylar have to figure out for themselves where they really belong.

people might think creating OC lore involves a lot of thinking & planning, but in my personal experience, OC development is more like a divine vision from a god slamming you over the head with a mallet while ur doing the fuckin dishes or folding laundry

I'm working on a little comic (also hello most effort I've put into a drawing in months) where Skylar realises that his relationship with Johnny is genuinely happy and healthy and that freaks him out.

Because whilst Johnny's never been with anyone (never felt confident enough to ask a guy out but he really liked Skylar and felt like he was in a better head space to manage a relationship), Skylar's had a few exes, all whom eventually chipped away at his own self confidence and made him feel less than. Like he should've been grateful they even considered him. One had even outright told him, "I don't like you that much, I'm only with you to make my ex jealous."

So he's laying next to Johnny after several months of dating where Johnny has made him feel better about himself than he has in ages and Skylar is like "oh shit is this what it feels like to be happy? This is terrifying."

Then he sings Britney Spears "Unusual You."

Sawyer Grahm!!! He’s one of the costume designers for moon theater! He’s a poodle, and very British..

He IS oc/canon, and I personally made him to ship him with Johnny!!!

Not only is he a costume designer, but he also sometimes performs when they have no actors available. He can play guitar, and sing. I’ll post more about him soon :3

I started rewatching the Sing movies and wanted to make some ocs

Their names are Skylar (the guy) and Stella (the girl), they're twins who were constantly pitted against each other by their terrible parents and as such have a strained relationship.

Skylar is an incredibly talented musician who plays multiple instruments and has incredible range with his voice, whereas Stella was a child actor who was sort of thrust into music and became a pop idol with the help of a lot of auto tune and other people writing her music.

Skylar was also supposed to be a child actor but he got such bad stage fright that he messed up the audition and was mocked for years over it. It eventually led to him moving in with different family members just to get away from the abuse.

As adults, Stella's now aware that her brother is the much more skilled musician and she's become jealous of him, whereas Skylar went through a lot of therapy and realised it was their parents who made them fight each other, and now all he wants is to reconcile with his sister. He even performs rock versions of her songs which she takes as mockery.

I love their story and need to finalise their designs. Skylar will also end up with Johnny and I'm leaning towards Stella with Ash.
