“I thought you were a human and were going to try to catch me. I’m so happy you’re a mermaid.” Rowan laid on his stomach so he was closer to the water. Resting his chin on his crossed arms. It was easier to look on her level like this.

“You can call me Rowan. What can I call you?” His wings fluttered happily. He might be nervous around humans but to finally meet a mermaid?! It was so exciting!

As much as Rowan loved the forests he takes care of, there was a deep fascination with the ocean. He often found himself on the coast watching the waves, or looking for shells. Never straying too far into the water, but enough to get his feet and wing tips wet.

“They look much better in person than in… book…” he trailed off when he saw her tail. All nervousness gone at realizing he hasn’t been caught by a human but by a being of the sea.

“Whoa. A goddess of the sea!” The fae bounced on his knees in excitement. Looking almost like a child.

“Are you a merrow? A mermaid?” His feathers fluffed up happily.

“I was so scared you were a human. It’s such a relief.”

“Oh! You must be a strong swimmer.” She didn’t look to be struggling. Honestly she looked right at home in the waves. Rowan caught her looking at his wings as they moved and noticed she wasn’t scared of them. She looked… curious?

“Noticed those, huh?” He laughed nervous. Still he did pride himself on his wings. They were big, strong and he preened them excellently. Feeling a bit cocky he stretched and let the drown and red wings open up.

“My pride and joy if I do say so.” The fae moved so she could get a better look… almost slipping off the rock. Rowan squawked as he almost fell.

“Uh… meant to do that.”

Huh. She looked as scared as he felt. Was it his wings? Were his wings scary? He tucked them behind him the best he could. Sitting up on the rock he tilted his head curiously.

“That doesn’t make us bad.~ killing… now that. That might make us bad.”

Alastor was a little startled by the suddeness of....an upside-down creature floating near him. However, he was good at recovery, so he gave him a grin.

"I agree with you, my upside-down fellow! Nothing in this life- and afterlife- are free! It's a transaction just like everything else!"
