Jude and Cardan simultaneously bc neither has the social skills to communicate or understand how feelings work
Growing up is actually all about realizing people don’t inherently dislike you and it’s a bit odd to assume they do

Jude: Cardan is my enemy. But it turns out that Cardan is also his own worst enemy. And the enemy of my enemy is my friend. So Cardan is actually my friend.
Jude: But, because he is his own worst enemy, the enemy of my friend is my enemy, so actually, Cardan is my enemy. But—
Vivi: Oh my god, shut up Jude! All I said was good morning!

Current Read: The Wicked King by Holly Black (The Folk of the Air)
sooo i started The Cruel Prince on the weekend, got distracted by life stuff, then read 80% of it in one sitting last night.
TWK was my favorite the first time around so we'll see if it still lives up to my 1st impressions. i loved the intrigue and tension and angst of Jude/Cardan in their respective roles at court. i'll do my best to document my favorite "oh shit" moments as i go – this one has a lot, and all of them are glorious!

The measure done, I'll watch her place of stand,
And, touching hers, make blessed my rude hand.
Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight!
For I ne'er saw true beauty till this night.

I regret wanting to speed through it to get back to rowaelin. i didn't appreciate chaol's growth or sjm's worldbuilding
I’m rereading the throne of glass series for the first time in years, and oh my god, tower of dawn is so ridiculously underrated??? Like this is one of sjm’s best books, why do people never give it enough credit

Happy release *week* to GLOW! I say that because I’m late with this mini papercraft challenge to celebrate, but what else is new! A new papercraft to pay tribute to Auren and King Ravinger from The Plated Prisoner Series by Raven Kennedy! The ‘third’ pair from TPP I’ve rendered in paper. Slade having no qualms about skin-to-skin contact with his goldfinch. (Under the right lighting, of course!) But it’s Auren’s ribbons that are taking center stage in this one. Wrapping around the four-pronged tree, emblem of the Fourth Kingdom. Honestly, Auren’s ribbons were MADE for papercrafting. I love drawing swirly, swoopy things and Auren’s ribbons are seriously my favorite, in craft and on text. And I’m sure, for those who have read up through Gleam, you can only imagine my feelings when I read through it the first time. 😩✨

I suggest that we start using the term ‘creatives’ instead of ‘content creators’ for authors/artists/gifmakers/podficcers for a few reasons, and chief among them are these;
we can’t always be our most productive, but there’s a terrible trend of fandom folks feeling bad if they don’t have something new to post every few weeks
you’re still a creative person even if you aren’t creating something at a given time, for whatever reason
and something it’s taken me far too long to learn myself: making things is not the rent you pay to be part of a community

Fanfiction Authors: HEADS UP
(Non-authors, please RB to signal boost to your author friends!)
An astute reader informed me this morning that one of my fics (Children of the Future Age) had been pirated and was being sold as a novel on Amazon:
Tumblr media
(And they weren't even creative with their cover design. If you're going to pirate something that I spent a full year of my life writing, at least give me a pretty screenshot to brag about later. Seriously.)
I promptly filed a DMCA complaint to have it removed, but I checked out the company that put it up -- Plush Books -- and it looks like A LOT of their books are pirated fic. They are by no means the only ones doing this, either -- the fact that """publishers""" can download stories from AO3 in ebook format and then reupload them to Amazon in just a few clicks makes fic piracy a common problem. There are a whole host of reasons why letting this continue is bad -- including actual legal risk to fanfiction archives -- but basically:
IF YOU ARE A FANFIC AUTHOR WITH LONG AND/OR POPULAR WORKS, PLEASE CHECK AMAZON TO SEE IF YOUR STORIES HAVE BEEN PIRATED.
You can search for your fics by title, or by text from the description (which is often just copied wholesale from AO3 as well). If you find that someone has stolen your work and is selling it as their own, you can lodge a DMCA complaint (Amazon.com/USA site; other countries have different systems). If you haven't done this before, it's easy! Here's a tutorial:
HOW TO FILE A COPYRIGHT COMPLAINT FOR STOLEN WORK ON AMAZON.COM:
First, go to this form. You'll need to be signed into your Amazon account.
Select the radio buttons/dropdown options (shown below) to indicate that you are the legal Rights Owner, you have a copyright concern, and it is about a pirated product.
Enter the name of your story in the Name of Brand field.
In the Link to the Copyrighted Work box, enter a link to the story on AO3 or whatever site your work is posted on.
Tumblr media
In the Additional Information box, explain that you are the author of the work and it is being sold without your permission. That's all you really need. If you want, you can include additional information that might be helpful in establishing the validity of your claim, but you don't have to go into great detail. You can simply write something like this:
I am the author of this work, which is being sold by [publisher] without my permission. I originally published this story in [date/year] on [name of site], and have provided a link to the original above. On request, I can provide documentation proving that I am the owner of the account that originally posted this story.
Tumblr media
In the ASIN/ISBN-10 field, copy and paste the ID number from the pirated copy's URL. You'll find this ten-digit number in the Amazon URL after the word "product," as in the screenshot below. (If the URL extends beyond this number, you can ignore everything from the question mark on.) Once this number has been added, Amazon will pull the product information automatically and add it to the complaint form, so you can check the listing title and make sure it's correct.
Tumblr media
Finally, add your contact information to the relevant fields, check the "I have read and accept the statements" box, and then click Submit. You should receive an email confirmation that Amazon has received the form.
Please share this information with your writer friends, keep an eye out for/report pirated works, and help us keep fanfiction free and legally protected!
NOTE: All of the above also applies to Amazon products featuring stolen artwork, etc., so fan artists should check too!

The first official step towards banning any and all LGBTQ+ art and literature has been taken.
This is what hypersexualizing queer topics was always leading towards. Expect this to be the signal flare that gets some state legislature barreling forward to enact this exact measure, solely so the bill can be struck down, challenged legally, then taken all the way to SCOTUS.
...
Repeating what I said on Twitter: This is a good time to remind people that just being LGBTQ in this moment in time can be considered an outright radical act, so anything less than going all-in on the life you want to lead is fucking pointless.
Put another way, if you're putting actual time and energy into respectability shit right now, do everyone *and* yourself a huge favor, and stop wasting your time.
You can't fucking negotiate with Christian Terrorists.

High Infidelity — Part 1
So you know the rumoured smut that SJM wrote about Rowaelin? Where they're getting up to all sorts of trouble while Aelin is married to Dorian? This is my self indulgent and fun take on it.
Things are going to get NSFW, and there will obviously be cheating, but don't worry. It won't make you sad.
 ~1200 words
Masterlist
______
Aelin Galathynius was bored.
Her husband had abandoned her an hour ago, melting into the ballroom’s crowd, and leaving her at the head of the room, manning their thrones. Maybe she’d have been more inclined to follow him had she not noticed Dorian’s eyes wandering to Manon Blackbeak, the visiting witch queen.
Not that she could fault him for that.
She and Dorian hadn’t shared a bed in months, which suited both of them fine. The last time they’d attempted intimacy, they’d given up before a single piece of clothing had come off. Awkward kisses turned to genuine laughter, and a tension between them had settled into a dear friendship. The romantic part of their marriage had ended that night, and they were better for it. Aelin loved her life. She loved being queen, she loved healing their countries with Dorian at her side. Everything was almost perfect.
Almost.
There was this one thing. One teeny tiny, absolutely unbearable problem that Aelin hadn’t yet figured out how to solve, but absolutely needed to.
She missed sex. A lot.
Dorian had practically given her his blessing to take another lover, but she hadn’t yet found any she wanted to play with.
And it vexed her. Just a little. That Dorian had found someone easily, but for her, it seemed an impossible task. She didn’t begrudge him his lovers, nor did she wish she could take their place, it just seemed … nice. To be excited about someone in that way.
And not the type of lust that had lured her and Dorian down the aisle. She wanted love. Desperate, ridiculous, storybook love. Yet it eluded her. Mocked her. It seemed that love visited everyone she knew, just never for her.
Aelin sighed and propped an elbow on the arm of her golden throne. She dropped her head into her hand and scanned the crowds, not really knowing what she was looking for.
Even across the room, Dorian’s smirking eyes found hers immediately. With a not-so-subtle jerk of his chin, he directed her attention to a handsome Fae male. Blonde hair, tan skin, and a smile that was so beautiful, so charming, Aelin actually found it a little off-putting.
Dorian raised a brow in question and she huffed a laugh.
No, she communicated with a shake of her head. Not that one.
Her husband’s other brow raised, morphing his expression into one of disbelief. Aelin laughed again. Clearly she and Dorian had different tastes in men.
He’s too perfect looking, she might have said were her husband close enough to hear it. Aelin wanted a male that was a little rougher, a little less polished.
Dorian made a dramatic show of shaking his head, as if to say some version of I’m married to a lunatic, and with a fond wink, disappeared back into the crowd. Aelin chuckled to herself. She had a feeling she wouldn’t see him again until late tomorrow morning.
Aelin, however, would be up bright and early if this monotony continued. She would not be waking up drunk on passion and tangled in sheets. No, she would wake up frustrated, make a paltry effort to satisfy the issue herself, and then end up exactly where she started.
“Your majesty,” a familiar male voice greeted.
Aelin looked up from the fingernail she’d been digging into her throne, and found Chaol Westfall before her. She smiled. “Captain.”
“I thought you looked like you might be in need of some entertainment,” Chaol said, holding out his hand formally, like they hadn’t been friends for years. “You’re a fan of dancing, aren’t you?”
She considered the offer. Considered the man making it too.
Aelin had thought about Chaol here and there. Wondered if he might be able to entertain her the way she needed, but ultimately had concluded it was a bad idea.
Dorian was okay with lovers but still probably wouldn’t appreciate his childhood best friend spending time in his wife’s bed. And more than that, Aelin liked Chaol … but she wasn’t sure she could love him.
What was the point of involving herself with another male if he didn’t make her heart flutter?
But Aelin said, “Why not?” and took his hand. There might not be any potential for an epic romance with Chaol, but he could still twirl her around the dancefloor as if there was.
The crowds parted easily for them, allowing the queen of Terrasen and Adarlan onto the dancefloor. Chaol led her into a waltz, always more capable of a dancer than she could anticipate.
“I have to admit I have an ulterior motive for asking you to dance,” Chaol said, dipping her gently and then pulling her back. “I want you to protect me from the Fae delegates over there. Dorian asked me to charm them, and well … you know how I am with charm. I needed an excuse to run away.”
Aelin didn’t look in the direction her dance partner indicated. She only laughed. “The Fae are not that frightening, Captain.” She had spent the day with most of the Whitethorn family, debating trade routes. They were perfectly pleasant.
There was Queen Sellene Whitethorn, her uncle Ellys Whitethorn and his two sons. And Aelin had a feeling there was one or two she hadn’t met yet.
She dreaded how confusing the names would be when she had even more silver-haired giants to keep track of.
“They are,” Chaol insisted. “You just fail to see it.”
She raised a brow. “Because I’m Fae?”
“No,” he smiled, “because you are also rather frightening.”
Her answering grin was genuine. He wasn’t wrong. “You were fine when you met Sellene.”
“Yes, but she’s—” Chaol looked over her head, blanching a bit. “She’s nice,” he said, clearing his throat and dropping his voice to a whisper. “It’s the big one that I’m not partial to.”
Aelin snorted. Loud and undignified enough to attract quite a bit of attention too. “The big one? You mean they get even taller?”
She made to turn around and see who this Fae was, but Chaol gripped her waist and pulled her back. “Don’t look,” he hissed. “He’ll know we’re talking about him.’
She laughed again. “You cannot be serious. I am the queen, I can talk about whoever I like.”
“Please, Aelin,” Chaol begged. Legitimately begged. “He’s been glaring at me since we started dancing. If you turn around, I think he actually might kill me.”
“You are being utterly ridiculous Captain Westfall,” Aelin said, shoving him off playfully. She reoriented herself in the direction of his terrified eyes. “You can cower behind me if you’d like, but I hardly believe that the big Whitethorn cares enough about you to … oh.”
Whatever Chaol said in reply faded away entirely.
There was a male. Leaning against the far wall. Almost obscured by the crowd, but tall enough that his silver-haired head rose above it. The sharp angles of his face were cut with shadows and candlelight, his expression stormy enough to match. His eyes—green, she could tell from here—were fixated on them. On the hand that Chaol still had on her waist.
Aelin stared back at him, not quite understanding the tug, the desire to cross the room until his gaze rose, and their eyes finally locked.
Something softened on his face.
Something clicked.
And for the first time in years, Aelin’s heart fluttered.
