by the way this is the procedure to get out of gaza

it costs 5k USD per adult and 2.5k USD per child

if you want to raise this money via GOFUNDME it has to be arranged by someone who is NOT living in Palestine because GFM does not release money to Palestine. GFM also verifies every detail so it has to be accurate so you need someone who is out of Palestine and also familiar with the bureaucracy.

once you raise the money one of your FIRST ORDER RELATIVES have to deposit this money IN CASH and IN PERSON at the Cairo offices of a company called hala. this person cannot be a Palestinian male under 40 because they are not allowed to be Egypt without a permit

once you pay the money you have to WAIT for your names to be published by Egyptian military at the Rafah crossing and the you have 24 hours to get out

it is a very long and convoluted process that is impossible for most Palestinians who do not have contacts in other counties. Please please donate to the GFMs you see floating around because they’ve been verified and this is only the first step in an arduous journey. Once in Cairo, Palestinians aren’t allowed to work so they need money for their support also.

So, I recently learned about the “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media that has helped Iranians sentenced to die by the regime in the past.

I am now asking you guys for help with that again.

There is an Iranian Jew named Arvin Netanel ben Siona, whose execution date is set for this Saturday. The Iranian Jewish community have tried endlessly to pursue his release, but to no avail.

Things I’ve been reminded of this last several weeks:

1) Holocaust education in the west is truly in a sorry state.

2) A great many people in the United States (my parents included) really do not understand the First Amendment, its limits, or what it protects.

3) People of any and all political stripes are way too comfortable throwing history - even modern, recent, in this lifetime history - on the pyre as a ritual sacrifice for ideological purity or group membership.

4) Christian hegemony out here Christian hegemony-ing, as people with good intentions decide that their intentions and alleged purity of thought override their actual actions.

5) So many people, just…so many, have not addressed their internal biases at all.

6) Antisemitism is alive and well.

Iran has launched missiles at Israel in retaliation against Israel’s bombing of their embassy. Let me be clear, first and foremost, that I do not think Israel left them many other options. I believe Israel did this to encourage the US to send them more money. I understand why this has happened.

That being said, we cannot now turn towards praise of the Iranian government. First and foremost, it is still the same government that allows “morality police” to kill women for what they wear. It is not a government that acts in the interests of the freedom of their people.

We also cannot forget that in war it always the rich who make the decisions, and the poor who suffer the consequences. As the threat of regional and perhaps even global warfare grows closer, we must remember that war is an evil that does not kill indiscriminately. We cannot get caught up in the notion of Israel reaping what it has sown. We must remember that those truly in power in Israel will not suffer- only the poor, the marginalized, the powerless. We cannot, even for a second, allow ourselves to imagine allies in those that would lead us towards this.
