ellana is embarrassed to admit how close she comes to having alexius made tranquil. what stops her — more than the thought of having that connection to the fade severed in herself — is that she feels understands the part of him that made his choices to save his son, as a person who would do a great many things to save those she considers family.

she's less embarrassed by how easy it is for her to simply remand samson to service of the inquisition. he's been through enough.

thinking about how marian takes on so much that is not hers to carry — the burden of protecting and providing for her family after malcolm dies, responsibility for bethany's death, responsibility for leandra's death. she carries the weight of freeing c.orypheys, blames herself for the events of inquisition because she should have known better, should have suspected there was somrghing amiss with larius.

so many would live still, be free, had she stayed away from the prison in the vimmark mountains.
