Sneak Peek 1 of Scarlet Cross, Chapter 6

I'm applying the term "WIP Wednesday" very loosely here :3 It's still Wednesday in my timezone, so it counts. Here's a draft sneak peek of chapter 6 of Scarlet Cross. This upcoming chapter will be from Noelle's POV:

The Hræsvelgr statue’s base is covered in weeds of a species Noelle can’t recognize. Those strange plants always grow back immediately, no matter how often the gardener has tried to remove them. Even Nozel has given up trying to shear them off. But Cyrus steers them aside the tangled stems with a careful pull of his magic, then traces a strange symbol over the blank stone with his finger. The symbol glows, then vanishes, and a round seal appears in its place.

“Yes!” Cyrus whisper-shouts. “I knew it!”

“Knew what?” Noelle whispers back.

“We have this in our garden, too. There must be a third at House Kira.”

“What is it?”

Cyrus presses his palm against the symbol, and it glows golden under the hue of his mana. The seal rotates counter-clockwise a hundred and eighty degrees. Then a trapdoor opens before their feet.

“Secret tunnel.” Cyrus climbs down the ladder into the cellar underneath. “Come on. It’ll be safer down here.”
