Did he just say that out loud? ‘’But still, there’s a major difference, I haven’t even had my first kiss until I was 18 years old, and I have no idea why I’m telling you this instead of shutting the hell up, for example.’’

“Stop Andrew, you’re making me blush.” Ezra said with a teasing grin as he ran a hand through his hair. He wasn’t wrong about the volume of it. “Are you joking? You didn’t kiss anyone until you were 18?” Ezra asked, genuinely shocked by the new information. Andrew was a good-looking guy. The nerdiness wasn’t exactly his thing, but it was still kind of adorable. “You should have been kissed way before that. You’re the type of guy people want to bring home to their families. 18-year-old you must have been adorably hot. If it makes you feel any better though, I didn’t kiss a guy until I was 17.”

Happy that he wasn’t being used as a human armchair anymore, Andrew looked over at Ezra again. ‘’No, no,’’ He couldn’t help the cringe that erupted from him. ‘’See, you popular kids ruined it for everyone else there. Some of us found libraries the only solace in our nightmare high school days, and you just had to go ahead and taint it with that teenage hormonal– lewdness.’’

“You think I was popular in high school?” Ezra asked, somewhat surprised at the thought. “I wasn’t. I got laid in high school, but I wasn’t popular. Andrew, you’re forgetting that all I did was play video games. I was a geek.”

‘’Shut up,’’ Andrew tilted his body to the side, entirely uncomfortable with the position, trying not to have Ezra’s hair all up in his face and nostrils, mostly. ‘’For your information,’’ He raised his forefinger as if announcing something. ‘’No amount of e-books, schme-books will ever be able to replace the good ol’ paper, libraries will always be around. And I wasn’t aware you were even familiar with the term or the concept of the libraries.’’

“Never.” Ezra replied with a grin, but he sat up and put Andrew out of his misery. The poor guy seemed entirely uncomfortable with him leaning against him. Ezra raised his finger when he spoke, mimicking Andrew. “I’ve been to a library before! They made you go to them in school. And that’s where you went to make-out with someone, obviously.”

Ezra hadn’t exactly signed up for a Shopping Trip With Izzy, but he supposed he had nothing better to do. He had already finished up with work. “Sounds like a plan. You’ll have me carry your bags, of course?”

Apart from her friends, her Aunt and now, even her cousin, Reagan tried to keep a distance from things that could cause her hurt, especially those that ere guaranteed to leave you after a few years. Ezra’s new dog, however, seemed to be the exception as a pout formed on her lips each time she saw him. “Oh my god, Ezra! He’ll get smushed.” Leaning forward, Reagan held her hands out. “You should leave him with his Auntie Ray.. Gimme.”

“I don’t think so. He seems comfy in there...” Ezra glanced down at the dog, who was making no attempts at escaping Ezra’s jacket. But he soon gave in and let Reagan have the tiny dog. “Anything for you, dear.” He smiled as he watched her play with the dog. “So, how’ve you been? Meet anyone new?” Hearing about her conquests always made for entertaining conversation.

‘‘Aight, don’t push it now,’‘ Andrew said seriously, but in all reality his lips curved into a smile. ‘’Yeah… still don’t get it.’’

Ezra grinned and shoved Andrew playfully. “You like me. That’s cute.” He rested his head on Andrew’s shoulder and continued, “I didn’t expect you to, grandpa. Maybe one day you can take all us youngins down to the... What do you even do for fun? The library? Yeah, you’ll take us down the library and show us the way things used to be.”

Layla was almost too eager to get to hold the puppy, bringing it up to her nose and letting it lick her face as she giggled. “I didn’t mean to disrupt your plans, but he’s just so adorable I can’t let you take him yet. Does he have a name?” She asked, bringing the pup to her chest and scratching behind its ears.

Ezra grinned as he watched her hold the dog. The puppy seemed perfectly content be held and admired by her. “No, we didn’t name him.” It sounded like Ezra was joking about it, but they genuinely didn’t have a name for the puppy or the duck. The animals had learned to respond to their various nicknames for them.

“Oh my gods,” Layla gasped, the look on her face a lot like the puppy’s. “Where have you been hiding him? I could take him if you want, I’ve got nothing better to do.” She tried her best not to die of cuteness as the dog peeked out from under Ezra’s jacket.

“I was planning on taking him with me, but...” With the look on her face Ezra didn’t know how he could deny her the chance to hold his dog. “You can watch him for a few hours while I’m out.” He took the dog out of his jacket and gave him to Layla.

‘‘Of course I would, I mean despite the fact that I have no idea how do you make your living and that most of the time I don’t understand your lingo, I’d still lend you a hand, you know.’‘

“Aw. It’s because you like me.” Ezra grinned, and then rolled his eyes. “It’s not that complicated. I make videos of me playing games. I post them, and since I have a good amount of viewers I get revenue from the ads. But with Twitch I stream me playing, and I get paid from subscribers and ads.”

“You’re looking beautiful as always today, by the way. Your secret’s safe with me. If he doesn’t know he dresses like a nerd by now he’ll never know.”

“I was just letting her now that the evolution of beauty didn’t significantly mean that newer generations have gotten ‘prettier’ or even more aesthetical. Cultural desensitization means that we’re just getting used to the current standards of beauty. What was wrong about that?”

“Sounds to me like you just called her ugly and dumb. Two insults in one go.” Ezra shook his head. Atti was helpless. “Women like to be told that they’re pretty and smart. You didn’t know that before?”

‘‘Exactly, yes, so maybe stick to playing games but try not to get sued by PETA in the meantime, we’re all too broke to bail you out. Except maybe Izzy but that’s beside the point. Oh har har, such fun.’‘

“Aw, you’d try to bail me out if I ended up in jail?” Ezra asked with a grin. “That’s real cute that you care that much about me, Andrew. I’m touched.” Ezra took the puppy out of his jacket and sat him on the couch next to him.

‘‘That’s– that’s not even a good pedagogical model, Ezra.’’ Andrew shook his head, a little confused with his suggestion. ‘’That’s not how you teach kids.’’

“It’s not how you teach kids. Could be how I teach kids. I don’t know, though. I’ve never really taught anyone anything before. Unless you count that time I showed you how to switch email accounts on your phone?” Ezra grinned. Teasing Andrew was fun.
