The most gut-wrenching, underrated scene in all of Psych just might be when Shawn is being held in the gas station and is forced to watch through a dirty window as his father and Lassiter walk away from him. The angsty, whumpy beats of that scene are so perfectly executed.

The stranglehold in lieu of a gag is so much more personal and cruel. We get to see how desperately Shawn tries to get a sound out, to cry for help, and Garth's gentle shushing is so painfully juxtaposed to the invasive and violent way he's keeping his hostage quiet. The way that Shawn's clearly struggling not to pass out as Garth's fingers dig into his neck, the fear and hopelessness in his eyes as he watches rescue - his own dad - walk away from him and leave him with these men, one of whom has already promised to kill him... and then as Henry and Lassiter walk away, we see Henry look back, as if he senses his son nearby...

There are a lot of great, angsty, whumpy moments in this episode alone, and some other stellar ones in the rest of the show. But this scene in particular will always stand out to me as one of - if not the - best for these reasons. It's so well written, acted, and executed and I could watch it all day.

I know I've talked about this before, but I love the idea of the doctor and the master regenerating together in mysterious circumstances, and having the audience be kept in the dark about which one's which for an episode or three
