Ok I didn’t want to be this bitch but here we are I guess.

Summary: I know you’re upset, please don’t tank the ratings. Reasons below from your local aro spec queer woman.

Spoilers for Wheel of Time season 3 ep 8

If you’re sad that Siuan has died, I beg you, do not tank the ratings. Do not boycott. Do not spam the accounts. All it does is destroy the chance for other plot lines to be destroyed before they’ve begun.

Now I haven’t read the books, but I’ve known whats happened in them going into season 3. For those of you havent read the books, SHE WAS ALWAYS GOING TO DIE. She was always going to die, and it sucks, and it’s awful and I hate it as much as you do. But she was. That’s the truth of it.

Could it have been a better death? Yes. It could always be a better death. That’s the nature of your favourite character dying. I could say the same for Loial.

However, her death brings so much new possibilities to explore. Book readers might have to correct me on details bc I refuse to read any more spoilers, but if I remember correctly, in the books, she was stilled and led a secret resistance within the tower. She saw the Next Amerlyin (not saying who for spoilers) to the throne and then died bc a tower fell on her. That’s the spark notes. Her death was always to serve another bc that’s what it was always meant to be! From the moment she and Moiraine entered Gitiras study, their life and death were now no longer their own.

Having her die now, with Moiraine clawing at the hands of fate and that broken bond giving her the rage to fight but not live, is - in my opinion - better than having her crushed for a cause she never wanted to serve. Her deaths purpose being Moiraine instead of the Dragon is what Siuan would’ve wanted.

It also opens up space for Leane to shine. She’s been a force to reckon with this season and now she has the motivation to lead that same resistance Siuan believed in.

Not to mention that we still haven’t seen how her death affects the course of events for anyone beyond Moiraine. She was a powerful figure. Her deaths purpose being, would not go unnoticed. Give it time to have meaning.

And then there’s the actual production process reasoning. Sophie is a very in demand actress and in WoT, she plays a side character who shows up, maybe 3-4 eps out of 8. As some one who’s studying film production and has produced my own short films, I can say that moving your entire production to orbit one person is a very risky, time consuming and potentially expensive plan of action. There are a lot of ways they can show a resistance without her than there are ways they can accommodate her schedule along with everyone else’s.

Going beyond her plot line, there are other sapphic and queer characters! Rafe canonized Avihenda and Elayne for a reason. They are powerful channellers with fire spears and a blaster that Removes You From Time (balefire). Alanna (polyamorous) is still in the Two Rivers with some very powerful little channellers. Mat (bi/pan/queer) is missing chunks of his memory and Min (aroace) is trying to help him.

And that’s off the top of my head. This is a deeply Queer World. Rafe respects the books and characters enough to give every death the impact it deserves (see the Hunters of the Horn music playing as Loial dies). Short seasons dont allow us time to see the impact, but a new season would. Please, if you have any respect for queer media, do not tank this show. Give it room to grow. Please.

Edit because I want to clarify something: I'm not saying don't be angry. Or sad. Or pissed off. All the deaths this season have been to major Black characters and that is not ok. Its truly very saddening to see. The show has the potential to do a lot with the cast they have (Maddie being an Indigenous woman in a leading role is just one example), but that doesn't excuse the shortcuts they've taken this season and I'm sorry I couldn't find the words for that earlier. I want the show to do better, and I hope that season 4 gives them the space and time to do that.

thinking about how when you experience a lot of shame in your formative years (indirectly, directly, as abuse or just as an extant part of your environment) it becomes really difficult to be perceived by other people in general. the mere concept of someone watching me do anything, whether it's a totally normal activity or something unfamiliar of embarrassing, whether I'm working in an excel spreadsheet or being horny on main, it just makes my skin crawl and my brain turn to static because I cannot convince myself that it's okay to be seen and experienced. because to exist is to be ashamed and embarrassed of myself, whether I'm failing at something or not, because my instinctive reaction to anyone commenting on ANYTHING I'm doing is to crawl into a hole and die. it's such a bizarre and dehumanizing feeling to just not be able to exist without constantly thinking about how you are being Perceived. ceaseless watcher give me a god damn break.

dr john shen clocking in early as attending (after having been one for only 3 months) on this fucky ass day because there's an MCI and then once things start slowing down a kid comes in with measles and his parents are being unreasonable and while he deals with that he has to deal with those two old white men refusing to end their damn shifts and one of the day shift residents almost gets fucking arrested and there's an 18-year-old in custody in one of the rooms who will likely stay there all night with his sad mum and the day shift attending just showed a patient's father the fucking make-shift morgue and then right when they're about to close trauma a man's pelvic gets crushed and he has to stand there and listen to walsh and abbot argue over what is supposed to be his patient, really, and he can see the day shift attending dissociate for ten solid minutes and no one's even told him there are two rats still loose in his damn department and abbot calls him a nerd
