i just re-read the sunshine court and i really need more analysis of the fact that jean has been in the nest since he was a child and now he's thrown out into a world he hasn't ever been exposed to (be honest when he was living in france he was homeschooled, he knows nothing about the real world) we see bits and peices of how ill-equipped he is to be in the world when he goes shopping and is learning to cook and is just generally treated decently by his coaches/teammates/friends but he just can't grasp it.

like i want him to go to a museum or on a hike or find a food he really likes and he gets to have it whenever he wants. i want him to take electives and find hobbies, read a book for fun, figure out what kind of music he likes, go to a party. i want him to just be a kid. he's only 19.

Okay so I want to talk about Neil vs the FBI. This was probably one of my favorite scenes in The Sunshine Court

When Neil started speaking in French he said nothing important to Jean. He would have gotten to the point if he had anything to hide from the FBI, but I just realized he was literally talking in French just to be annoying.

Like imagine if Neil was feeling mischievous enough to just let them call the interpreters. They just sit there the entire time speaking French and watch as the FBI scrambles to call over an interpreter just for fun.

How do you think the Trojans would react to learning that their teammate’s sister was sold by her parents, by his parents, and that she is dead?

How will they react when they learn that he didn’t know about this until after he left the ravens?

What will people wonder about Jean? How did he end up playing exy when his sister met such a terrible fate?

Will Jean’s lack of knowledge be blamed on his parents for cutting him off? On the Ravens because they require their players to cut people off? On Jean for not trying to reach out?
