I feel really sorry for anyone who overhears my conversations with my friends. Like, they vary between obsessing over fandoms to the most efficient way to murder someone and dispose of their corpse

Teacher culture is getting a second job because yours doesn’t pay enough.
Teacher culture is buying granola bars to feed your class because they didn’t have breakfast.
Teacher culture is buying soap with your own money so your students have something to wash their hands with.
Teacher culture is helping a neurodivergent child function without medical assistance because their parents are too proud to admit there’s something “wrong” with their child.
Teacher culture is keeping an extra set of pillows and blankets because your student doesn’t have any for nap time.
Teacher culture is staying up late worrying if you could’ve done better.
Teacher culture is wondering if you can legally adopt a child who needs more love because their parents are awful.
Teacher culture is working until midnight to prepare projects and researching activities you can do with your students.
Teacher culture is realizing you are the most crucial adult role model a child will have outside of their family and making yourself better because of it.
Teacher culture is allowing your students to teach you just as much as you teach them.
And if you’re a teacher and it’s not your teacher culture, perhaps you should wonder why you’re a teacher to begin with.
