There's a very messed up implication when future Vilgax calls Ben 10k's base human form a novelty. Like that just means Ben stays as an alien all the time now.

I know the lesson of the episode is that you should rely on your family and that growing up doesn't mean you can't have fun. So Ben becoming so distant from his family—so alienated—he's a literal alien 24/7 is an amazing touch that went way over my head as a kid.

I think the problem with the two sides of the Ben is a Bad Boyfriend argument is that it's either "he's the worst boyfriend ever" or "he's done nothing wrong and the other person in the relationship is the entire problem." And to be fair, A LOT of the issues with the romantic subplots come from his romantic partners, but that's because these relationships are often not compatible. You're always going to be someone's shitty ex when you don't click with them on every level that matters. Ben could not be what Julie needed in a boyfriend, and to her, unfortunately, he wasn't a good boyfriend. Julie couldn't be the girlfriend Ben needed either. And despite being true in context, the writers really failed to make that clear about their breakup.
