Pre-flight Checklist

Of course, this only works if you keep to the letter and do a pre-flight check every time. The items that you will include in your pre-flight checklist is all up to you, but should ideally include the following items:
The drone has no existing damage (chipped propellers, cracks in the drone’s body, etc.)
Batteries are fully charged. This applies to the drone, the remote controller, and your smart phone (if needed)
The drone and the remote controller are communicating
The drone’s compass and all its sensors are calibrated
The drone has established a GPS signal
By conducting a pre-flight check, you can reduce the probability of unwanted surprises that might only come up when the drone is already hovering at an unsafe altitude.
Cleaning Your Drone
Regular cleaning is something that every drone owner should do. After all, your drone can spend several hours exposed to the elements. Aside from dust naturally building up on the drone’s exterior, its various moving parts could be inundated with various small debris.
You need to build a small kit of cleaning implements for your drone, which should at least include a microfiber cloth, a small brush, some isopropyl alcohol, and a can of compressed air. Start by wiping the exterior with damp cloth, applying alcohol for stubborn stains. Small nooks and crannies can be cleaned with a small brush.
The motors probably suck in a lot of small particles during flight, and these have to be removed via compressed air. Just remember to always hold the can of compressed air upright when spraying so you avoid getting moisture into your drone’s motors.
Keep Your Battery Healthy
Drones are equipped with LiPo batteries, which are incredibly lightweight and compact that come with the burden of also being incredibly fragile. Let The Drone Cool Down Between Uses
It’s so easy to get caught up in drone flight that drone pilots tend to forget to give their drones a break. While you will certainly need to land your drone to replace batteries after just a few minutes, swapping one battery for another and flying again without giving the motors of the drone some time to cool down is a bad idea. Even with the best lubricant, motors will get hotter the longer they run. A motor that overheats could suffer some permanent damage. At worst, one or more motor can fail while your drone is still up in the air.
Keep the Drone’s Software Updated
All drone makers normally update their firmware very so frequently and it is reasonable that you check for updates. Autel Robotics Introduces Training Programs for Dragonfish Series
Washington, United States, June 29, 2022 – Autel Robotics has revealed details of professional training programs that will promote safety and proper use of its drones. Initially focused on Autel’s own Dragonfish series, the training includes product and technical support knowledge, and walkthroughs of the programs that agents will use for customer service.
Operators who complete the course will receive a Manufactured Certified Operator (MCO) certification. This program is currently available to key Autel stakeholders, such as sales and dealer staff, other Autel employees, and to trainers who will train other staff.
Educating Autel Staff
Training has already begun for the new members of Autel’s Customer Service Team. This includes
a four-course online training series, "Dragonfish Ground Training," followed by in-person training
by a certified instructor. At Autel, all Dragonfish pilots must pass the Ground Training section first
to complete the instructor-led in person training. After passing both sections, the pilot is granted a
Manufacturer's Operating Certificate, which is valid for two years.
Ground Operations Training
In this lesson, pilots learn to safely and efficiently operate the Dragonfish, increasing effectiveness and reducing risks. Students learn to understand the drone’s hardware and software capabilities, they also begin learning flight dynamics and tracking controls.
Sales-focused Training
These lessons, which are still under development and review, will be aimed at Autel dealers and new Autel sales employees. There will be an additional course for dealers who plan to demonstrate the Dragonfish on Autel's behalf, which will include training on executing a sales demonstration effectively.
Engineering and Maintenance Training
In the future, Autel also hopes to provide courses for students to help them understand the internal mechanics of the Dragonfish and help guide repairs or maintenance.

On 20 June, the winners of Red Dot Award 2022: Product Design were honored for their achievements. Almost 1,200 guests from around 40 nations accepted the Red Dot Design Award’s invitation
and gathered at Essen, Germany. It was the first in-person award ceremony in two years.
The EVO Lite+ and EVO Nano+ both won the Best of Best Design Award.
The representative of Autel Robotics Germany Branch took the stage and received the trophy from Peter Zec, the Red Dot Award’s founder. With that, Autel Robotics became the only company in the drone industry to hold two Best of the Best (Red Dot Best Design Award) trophies.
Founded by the German Design Association in 1955, the Red Dot Award is one of the largest, most authoritative, and influential design competitions in the world. An expert jury evaluates participating products from various aspects including innovation, functionality, ergonomics, durability, quality, and environmental friendliness.
In this year's Red Dot Awards, the EVO Nano+ and EVO Lite+ drones stood out from tens of thousands of outstanding entries around the world and won two of the 119 Best of the Best awards. Last year in 2021, thousands of products were entered, and of the 2199 products that won awards in Product Design, there were only 116 Best of the Best winners.
The Nano and Lite Series’ designers spoke about the award and the importance of the drone series’ place in the growing industry.
“UAV is a sunrise industry in the aviation field, and it will be a competitive market in the aviation technology in the future,” said Bominb Lu, one of the Nano’s designers. “UAV is not only about shooting [photos], spraying pesticides, or delivering goods, it will play a major role in all aspects of life and work in future.”

Grassroots Piloting: The humble beginnings of professional drone programs
Companies across all economic fields are adding drones to their toolsets, and more are realizing the value of small unmanned aerial systems. With the growing awareness and popularity, it’s easy to assume that most drone programs are initiated by managers or executives who want to cut costs or increase productivity. The numbers show that this isn’t always the case.
Polls from DroneAnalyst’s 2020 Market Sector Report showed that over half of companies’ drone programs start at the individual level. Sometimes, individuals bring personal drones to their jobs. Occasionally, the programs start without management knowing.*
Many programs begin with an individual recognizing a need, or an opportunity. Ryan Raulerson, an 18-year veteran of the Issaquah Police Department, explained the idea for his department’s drone program began when he saw potential with a drone his family owned. He proposed a drone program several years ago and found his commanders were dragging their feet on the idea. Now, his department is starting its drone program.
Police and first responders receive a lot of attention in the drone market because they’re a rapidly-growing field business.
Expenses
Proving the worth of a fledgling drone program is an important step, especially as aviation regulations continue to develop and as more companies produce higher-performing, higher-cost drone platforms. In 2020, the average purchase price of drones in the $500-$100,000 range is $8,109, according to DroneAnalyst, which represents an increase of almost $6,400 from 2019’s average purchase price of $1,718.² This is likely due in part to the introduction of high-end thermal cameras, mapping software, and surveying tools on drones marketed to first responders and industrial inspectors.
It’s easy to see how executives and managers might be hesitant to increase funding for such expensive equipment, even if they see the potential uses and advantages of starting a drone program. However, if executives are willing to work with employees or contractors who know drones, the results can increase efficiency and save money.
“We initially bought the Aardvark,” said Carl Cronk from the Mountlake Terrace Police Department. “And we realized we didn’t know anything about drones.”
“We didn’t buy it, the command staff bought it,” another officer chimed in. They had met with four different police departments to share information and test-fly drones from different companies.
“We realized it’s not gonna do what we want it to do,” Cronk continued. “So we can sit down and revaluate, clear up what our tasks and the roles are gonna be, and the equipment that’s actually gonna accomplish those tasks.”
Over half of all drone programs have a budget of $10,000 or less, according to DroneAnalyst.³ That might be only enough for one or two drones, but that’s still enough to prove the concept, especially in law enforcement where one drone platform can be used for many tasks.
Outsourcing drone services to specialized operators is an option for smaller-scale uses, like real estate photography or one-time land surveys. However, DroneAnalyst notes that in 2020, 73 percent of companies with drone programs are fully in-house, compared to 8 percent with fully-outsourced programs. The remainder, 19 percent, have a mix of in-house and outsourced users.
The Future
As technology, regulations, and awareness increase and evolve, drones will likely play a larger and larger part in more and more business operations. Even as top-down programs are likely to increase, bottom-up drone programs are still responsible for a majority of new programs.
