"Our bodies break down, sometimes when we're 90, sometimes before we're even born, but it always happens and there's never any dignity in it. I don't care if you can walk, see, wipe your own ass. It's always ugly. Always. You can live with dignity, we can't die with it."

adelaide devereaux x exes week
addie met william denny her freshman year and his sophomore. it was the classic story of the football player and the cheerleader. everyone had expected it, seen it coming from a mile away but they still felt their bond was different from what others assumed. they started out as just friends, sure there was tension there but they didn't breach it for a long time. growing a connection first finding that they could be themselves with each other, show each other the sides of themselves that they didn't show others. addie thought she was the only one that bill was vulnerable with, shared his sensitive side and told his aspirations outside of sports. how he really wanted to write, create, how he was far more artistic and didn't particularly care about sports. he did it for his dad and because his step-brother was on the team as well, the thing that had brought them together and caused them to bond. slowly their friendship grew into more, until one night he asked her to be his girlfriend, and she said yes. being happy together for a year, making it the longest relationship either of them had ever had.
What she didn't know was that while she was getting his vulnerable side for months, he was sharing other parts of himself with two of her best friends and teammates on the cheer team. it was a shock when she found out, not believing it at first but then seeing it with her own eyes when she caught bill wrapped up with louisa at a party after a game they had won. he tried convincing her it was nothing, that it didn't mean anything and that it had been louisa that had made a move on him and he had just been shocked. and at first she'd believed him because there were others whispering in her ear about how louisa had always had a thing for bill, always lurking on the sideline waiting for the chance that she felt was stolen from her by adelaide. so she forgave him and accepted him back, only to find out from someone else that he'd been hooking up with her other best friend only weeks later.
she felt stupid, heartbroken, played for a fool so she immediately went over to his house to confront him and demand the truth. only this time, bill wasn't prepared to talk. instead choosing to run away and avoid addie for a while before having a conversation where he continued to deny what had happened, gaslighting her throughout the conversation over text and still claiming to have real feelings for her. only to then immediately turn around and spread the rumor that she had shown up at his house screaming and pounding down his door, that she had threatened and chased him out of his house with a gun because she was one of those crazy southern girls. the rumor had easily gained traction from the way addie had previously been upset at the party and drunkenly yelling at both bill and louisa. that and it was widely known that adelaide & alexandria's father was a proud gun owner that regularly took his daughters either hunting or to the shooting range to teach them how to properly use one. plus, bill had the full support of his team. the football players banded together and standing behind their captain's brother and their girlfriends all standing by their sides. this lead to addie being shunned by her own team, only willing to interact with her during practice and having whispers following her wherever she went.
it was the first serious and the last real relationship she has ever had. not trusting herself to choose someone after that. nor trusting others with her heart. instead pretending as if she doesn't have one and picking casual hookups and dates that end after a week instead because it's easier. never allowing another the chance to get close enough to hurt her, nor letting them dictate who she is. it's why she also keeps her friends at arm's length and isn't quick to trust.
she hasn't shared this with anyone, the only one who would know about this experience and seen how it affected and changed her is her twin sister.

devereaux family.
father. cash devereaux ( 43, construction business owner )
mother. annette devereaux ( 40, bridal designer )
eldest. adelaide devereaux ( 18, high school student )
middle. alexandria devereaux ( 18, high school student )
youngest. austin devereaux ( 12, middle school student )
the devereaux family is incredibly traditional and stereotypical southern family, but also not at the same time. cash had always been the stereotypical rough and tumble southern man that had wanted a son more than anything, but the moment he saw his two baby girls and held them in his arms? it was over for him. he didn't treat them any differently and taught the girls everything he would have had they been boys. hunting, fishing, football, the works, all while also playing dress up and having tea parties with them as well. annette also loves and dotes on her children, teaching them how to sew, bake, cook, taking them out shopping, as well as passed down her love of cheerleading down to the girls. they were completely fulfilled with just the two, austin just came as a surprise and was an 'oops' baby. the family is generally very close and support each other, which is why they went everywhere the girls needed to go to follow their competitive cheer teams.
