The face of the Roman baby who died 1800 years ago. The death mask was made accidently when cement sealing the sarcophagus leaked inside and formed a mould of the child's face.

Plate 1: SENECA WOMAN.
“Striking a proud pose this beautiful young woman stands attired in clothing typical of the late 19th Century. Small white glass seed-beads decorate moccasin and legging. The embossed floral designs on the ribbon near the bottom of the skirt are in larger translucent pony beads. Similar beads, but with more colours, decorate the hanging long ‘harness tabs’, possibly unique then, and not to be encountered today. The scalloped cuffs are frequently seen in the clothing of all genders during this period. Her dark, beaded choker with bead bow is a novel item perhaps suggested by the white fashions of day. Besides three loops of large beads, another necklace appears to be a doubled length of loom beadwork. Like silver broaches trim the lower overdress, very long by today’s standard; a variety of broach style ornament the bodice. Her petite waist is cinched by a dark belt with bead embossing. A ring and two barrettes complete her attractive ensemble.”

2,300-Year-Old Plush Bird from the Altai Mountains of Siberia (c.400-300 BCE): this artifact was crafted with a felt body and reindeer-fur stuffing, all of which remains intact
This stuffed bird was sealed in the frozen barrows of Pazyryk, Siberia, for more than two millennia, where a unique microclimate enabled it to be preserved. The permafrost ice lense formation that sits just beneath the barrows provides an insulating layer, preventing the soil from heating during the summer and allowing it to quickly freeze during the winter; these conditions produce a separate microclimate within the stone walls of the barrows themselves, thereby aiding in preservation.
This is just one of the many well-preserved artifacts that have been found at Pazyryk. These artifacts are attributed to the Scythian/Altaic cultures.
