After reading this article about the interview with “Mr. Smith” it is obvious how unfair and wrong the whole situation is. It almost seems as if the person responsible was being protected and defended. The questions that were being asked to Mr. Smith were not appropriate. For example they talk about what the person was doing walking at that time which was 11PM and what was the person wearing. It makes no sense to ask those types of questions especially to ask what the person was doing outside at that time. There Is no excuse for why someone should rape someone and there is no need to defend a rapist. The questions that are being asked are not aiding the victim but rather favoring the suspect, these questions make the victim seem like the only responsible one for what occurred to them.

This article talks about how society strongly influences the way the public views everything. In this article she talks about all the instances where society has failed to show real consequences for men. The author uses celebrities as examples because people look to them for entertainment and mostly know more about celebrity news than actual important news. Some men she uses as examples that prove her point are Charlie Sheen and Roman Polanski. These men are known as successful people whether it be for their music, directing skills, or acting skills. But in reality these guys did stuff that should catch more people's attention. For instance, Roman Polanski was charged with sex assaults and was even being accused of committing a crime that did not allow him to return to the U.S. for 30 years. Yet, despite all the wrong things he did in his life he still managed to receive an oscar. This shows how even though he didn't get away from the law he still managed to continue his career as a director, in other words his privileges remained the same. Charlie Sheen for example not only threatened to kill his ex wife but he also claimed to have accidently shoot Kelly Preston and held a knife at his ex wife's throat. Despite all these horrible things he did he managed to have a show which made him earn tons of income. In the article she states “We look the other way, we make excuses” what she means by this is that people tend to not want to believe that an actor who they look up to would ever do such a thing yet what they don't know is how they truly are in person, they judge them by the roles they play in front of a camera or through their music. In conclusion this type of unfairness needs to stop because in a way it is making women believe that if they speak up to a man's negative action than their won't be any justice made for the women, as long as men keep on getting away with their wrong actions, then women wont receive the fairness they deserve when it comes to cases like these

After reading the article “The Gender Wage Gap” there were so many tables that showed the truth behind the wage gap. The gender wage gap is unacceptable and the fact that it still exists during this time shows how we as a whole still have some work to do. A study showed that “during 2009, median weekly earnings for female full time workers were $657compared with $819 per week for men, a gender wage ratio of 80.2 percent. Women who are working in the same jobs as men are earning less money than a man for doing the same job. This type of unfairness needs to change. An example of women working the same jobs yet stil having to get paid less is from the U.S. Department of Labor, according to a 2009 table chart that compares a male and female middle school and elementary school teachers earnings. Womens median weekly earnings would be $891 while men would make $1040, thats $149 worth of work that women do not get paid for. This could be tied into the commercial about the wage gap clock which is basically showing the audience how women are getting paid less than the amount of hours they technically worked for. This means that for at least one eighth of a womens day she is basically not earning any income and working for free. The wage gap exists between gender but it falls into a deeper category regarding race. Yet the gender wage gap sounds intense and sounds like it could not get any worse, it does. The wage gap becomes more impactful for women of color. According to the table in this article, hispanic or latino males make $569 compared to a hispanic or latina women who would make $509. That is 89.5 percent of male earning, but it is also 55.2 percent of white male earnings.

Reading the article “Celling Black Bodies: Black women in the global prison industrial complex” written by Julia Sudbury taught me about the prison industry and the ways in which they are fixed. Before reading this article I had no idea that companies would pay prisoners low wages to do the labor for them. It came to me as a surprise that a situation like this was occurring. One interesting quote that Sudbury states is “As the gendered and racialized bodies that turn prison cells into profit margins, women of color play a vital role in the global prison industrial complex.” This quote refers to the fact that women of color make up most of the prison industrial work. This quote brings me back to what we learned in class from seeing the trailer for the 13th, this is exactly what they are referring to when they mentioned that the laws for a specific race is different than that for another race. It also states “Prisons also play a direct role in capital accumulation since their operation generates profit for corporations engaged in building, equipping, and operating them as well as those employing prisoners as cheap labor.” after reading this article I felt like there should be people who should bring awareness about situations like this and give a voice to them.

In the article Men and Feminism there is a quote that states the following “Guys have lots of opportunities to examine and make change in everyday issues”. This quote is something that society should take into consideration. For example the man in the article, Greg, has his own way of contributing, helping, and overall just speaking up. There is a quote in the article that says “Greg speaks up and refuses to be compliant when his starbucks coworkers make racist jokes or talk in sexist ways about women”. What this type of action does is it brings a stop to ignorant people who have negative ideas and not only have those ideas but tend to share them which in result creates more of those people. Groups like One In Four Men and Men Can Stop Rape are both programs that aim to prevent sexual assault. The idea that if more people knew about groups like these then society would be informed on how men are taking action and are being part of feminist movements. This type of information could help in understanding that you do not necessarily have to be female to be a feminist, what counts is that you have a strong sense of equality.

Reflection 3
The article “Night to his day” The Social Construction of Gender by Judith Lorber, describes the roles that gender plays in everyone's mind. In the article she uses the example of how something as simple as a father taking care of his child receives praise. This example shows how society views males in the parenting role. Many people who see a father taking care of his daughter or son do not normally see it as if a mother were taking care of it. Nowadays we see fathers taking more of a role in parenting and it is time that society starts to accept that instead of viewing this as an “out of normal” case. One step that will show how society is more accepting with the fact that men are becoming more active in their parenting role is by including changing tables in the mens bathroom. It is unacceptable to think that only women take care of their babies, men as the fathers also do, so why not have a changing area where a man can take his child and change him. In the article Lorber states “we are uncomfortable until we have successfully placed the other person in a gender status, otherwise we feel socially dislocated”. I feel like this quote can go in relation with a video experiment that I saw in which there were two babies, one was a girl and the other was a boy. The purpose of the experiment was to see how people react to babies when they know their sex. But what they didnt know is that therewasacatch to this, the girl baby was dressed in boy clothes and the boy baby was dressed in girls clothes. As soon as people walked into the room with the baby girl they would offer her some pink toys, and would talk to her in a soft little voice, litle did they know that it was a boy. So for the baby boy things were completely different, the boy was given cars to play with and little robots. Yet they had no idea that the baby was a girl. He way this ties intothe quote is because it shows how quickly people were to distinguish a babies sex and start to associate it with different activities with their sex.
