I would like to share my thoughts and opinions on the backlash Ben Platt has received for playing the role of Evan Hansen

First of all, if you did not enjoy the movie that’s obviously 100% okay and I respect your opinion but I cannot believe your hurtful words have driven him to delete his whole twitter account. Making comments about his looks, Saying he looks horrible or saying he is a creep because of his age. Ben is not the first OR last 26 year old to play a teenager, I do agree that the movie tried too hard to make him look young and it didn’t necessarily work but there is no need to be so nasty. HIS DAD IS LITERALLY THE PRODUCER!! WHAT DID YOU EXPECT??? I can guarantee if anyone else were to play the role of Evan you would be saying all that bs about how ‘Ben is the only Evan in my heart🥺’ or ‘If Ben Isn’t in it, I’m not watching it’ and it’s honestly ridiculous, you’re all too hard to please, if you don’t like Ben or the movie, don’t watch it. It’s that simple. You don’t have to comment on someone’s looks or acting abilities, you don’t have to tell someone their a terrible singer just because you don’t like them. Wether or not Ben was the right choice for the role, there is no doubt he did an incredible job portraying the character HE originated. His vocals are incredible, especially along side the wonderful actors he worked along side with. I’m not Ben so I obviously cannot fully understand how he must feel about the situation, but assuming he hasn’t spoken about the movie much, as well as deactivating his twitter account, he doesn’t seem to pleased with the movie either. All I’m really trying to say is you don’t have to comment on everything you dislike, it’s not hard to be nice- I’m not saying spam his instagram with compliments he won’t read, the nicest thing you can do Is say nothing!! For sure, go review the movie but don’t come at the actors directly because Ben is unproblematic and has done no wrong. Please please please just learn to be respectful, criticism is normal and valid but i thought we were criticising the movie not the actors who were just doing their job? I totally get if you guys disagree but it just makes me sad because I love Ben and I definitely couldn’t handle the things that are being said to him being said towards me. Maybe he’s unbothered, maybe I’m just being dramatic and this happens to all actors 😅 idk IM SORRY THIS HAS BEEN ON MY MIND FOR AGES. IM ALSO PREPARED TO GET DEATH THREATS BUT ITS OKAY AHHH AS I SAID, IM PREPARED.
