Dusk In China

Slowly, the misty shadows of evening fall,

Upon scent of jade and the whitewashed wall,

See, the marble Bodhisattva's languid hand,

Where memories begin and time shall end,

Where ancient spiders wrap strands of lust,

Round peeling silk frames embedded with dust,

Mahogany beams heave with a porcelain sigh,

Where gray speckled doves, give start and fly

Over faded black tiles, shivering in the chill,

As the barren willow beckon with austere will,

The unsung infertile empress of nostalgic pain

Smile and cast lidless eyes on her loyal terrain.

O, let us conceal our grotesque desires 'neath crystal laughter and scented lies Construct a labyrinth to house regret Hewn from bedrock under woeful eyes

For we find no shame in making peace With the grand deceit that hunts us all Just so the glow of our desolate lights May reach a heaven that heeds our call

Until sleet and ice take all that remains Let pure snow mask our festering core Indulge in pleasures and bide our time As neon gods watch o'er our dying lore

And perhaps, history shall begin anew From gray wastes of our flesh and bone When benevolent earth's steady hand Forge a new spring from sleeping stone.

2014

The Onkalo spent nuclear fuel repository is a deep geological repository for the final disposal of spent nuclear fuel, the first such repository in the world. It is currently under construction at the Olkiluoto Nuclear Power Plant in the municipality of Eurajoki, on the west coast of Finland, by the company Posiva. It is cut into raw bedrock and is constructed to last 100,000 years. It will be filled with nuclear waste and sealed in 2100.
