I'm back (maybe)
So um, Hello Tumblr. I've been on hiatus for a good while, trying to focus more on school, family, and myself. For some time, I was feeling really unmotivated to write anything (hence why I haven't updated or posted). I didn't want to put up things that were half-hearted and not up to par, so I decided to take a break. I apologize to anyone who may have been waiting for updates; I do intend to continue The Silk Phoenix, and get started on Static Lines in the next couple months, hopefully with more energy to keep going this time. Now that, I've had some time to reset, I do believe that I'll be returning with new stuff soon. I will not be extremely active, but I will be keeping to a more regular (huh?👀) schedule. Once again, I'm sorry to anyone who has been waiting. I'm excited to be coming back! :)

Static Lines | Gang Profile #5: The Sevens | The Sleeping Lions
Tumblr media
Leader: Im Jaebum, aka JB
Member Count: 7, currently all active
Fields: Firearm and drug trafficking, media infiltration
Can I just say??? that for a gang that delivers the quality of work that they do
They are extremely underrated
Their potential is shocking
They deserve a lot more than what they get
Nonetheless, they are still one of the bigger gangs in the city
Each member is a jack of all trades
Honestly so well trained
It’s almost ridiculous how good they are
International boys
Have strong connections out of Korea due to the variety of the members’ nationalities
Strongly linked to The Bullets
The two gangs are literal partners in crime
So hard working
And humble
It makes me want to cry :’)
Deathly loyal to each other
The seven of them might as well just be blood brothers
Would do anything for each other
Although they are often lil shits to one another
Especially the younger boys to the older ones
But because of how close they are, they work together like a well oiled machine
Little to no hiccups at all
They trust and know each other that well
And that’s the very first thing any good gang needs to have
When they’re not out in the streets running gang errands
They’re hanging out around their base doing normal mundane stuff
Get into a lot of mischief on the regular
It’s actually kinda cute
On the gang side of life though, they’re quite different
Silly personalities are put aside, and they’re all serious business
They work fast, and hit hard
You’ll never see it coming until it hits you over the head
Sometimes quite literally too
Final word: The Sevens are a gang with a steady and growing reputation with a sense of determination that is sure to catapult them to great heights
All they need is the right time and opportunity

Static Lines | Gang Profile #4: The Black Pink Hearts | The Rookies
Tumblr media
Leader: None
Member Count: 4, currently all active
Fields: Firearm and jewellery dealing, tracking, media infiltration
A small gang that made it big
Broke into the major crime scene very suddenly and took the city by storm
Their business is small and discreet but extremely successful
Will track and tab individuals for a price
Acquaintances with The Velvets
But are a generally neutral gang otherwise
They just don't pick sides
They'd rather focus on expanding their business than fight
You look at them and you think they're just some harmless pretty girls
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH
They will shoot you
Don't provoke them
You'll only be playing with fire ;)
Will get all up in your area
Sue me
2cool4u
If you ever see all of four of them walking down the street together
God damn
You'll be shook
Their charismatic charms could beat you up
Don't have a leader because they don't feel the need for one
They work together just fine as they are so why have one girl make all the rules, right?
The media loves them
Each member could very well blow up the entire online system by herself
Because their image and reputation are relatively new in the main public eye, no one has had the chance to see much of them yet
But just give it a bit of time
These four girls are ready to make the world theirs
And steal you heart while they're at it ;)
Simply put, The Black Pink Hearts are an impressive girl gang rising up quickly through the ranks
Make sure to keep an eye out for them, or they'll catch you by surprise

Static Lines | Gang Profile #3: The Bullets | The Contenders
Tumblr media
Leader: Kim Namjoon, aka RM
Member Count: 7, currently all active
Fields: Drug trafficking, assassination, government infiltration, counterfeit printing
A very impactful gang
Their success was rather sudden, but it shows absolutely no signs of slowing down anytime soon
The extent of their influence on the public can only match that of E.X.O.
Especially on the youth of the city
They might seem pretty chill
But are actually ruthless
They want nothing more than to overthrow E.X.O. and become the biggest gang
And they’re very ready to do whatever it takes to achieve that
Extremely hard-working
Always have something up their sleeves
Hidden tricks and surprises galore
They end up constantly outdoing themselves, even when you think it can't possibly happen again
It's like they have a source of unlimited potential that never stops proving itself each times they get the chance to show it
Seeing them in public might catch you off guard a bit
Are so much more handsome and well groomed in real life than you'd expect
Are very close to The Sevens
The two groups are always working together
So where one is, the other is likely nearby
Have I mentioned that all seven of them are wonderfully good looking???
No joke, their visuals can and will knock you right off your feet
And they always exude the charms of a gentleman
Which fools pretty much any female (or even male) that crosses their path
You'll never know that they're members of the fastest growing mafia gang in Seoul
Unless they want you to
And should that be the case, I suggest you run
End line: The Bullets are a fearless, ambitious gang that has no mercy on those that oppose their rise to glory
~
A/N: I wasn't gonna do this but that gif tho???? *whistles*

Static Lines | Gang Profile #2: The Velvets | The Femme Fatales
Tumblr media
Leader: Bae Joohyun, aka Irene
Member Count: 6 (including Y/N), all active
Fields: Bounty hunting, assassination, jewellery dealing
Epitome of dangerous women
Not even kidding
Look it up in the dictionary and thesaurus; it's legit
They are a handful of cut throat ladies, quite literally
Visuals from heaven, capabilities from hell
Slice me up, thank you very much
Very skilled assassins
Rich, and getting richer
Dirty work has a price
And it’s not cheap
Illusive; only those who know them can find them
Sister gang to E.X.O.
And by default, enemies to The Bullets and The Sevens
Acquaintances with The Black Pink Hearts
Use all kinds of weapons, from snipers to pocket knives
In possession of probably the most extensive weaponry arsenal in Seoul (courtesy of E.X.O.)
You name it, they can kill you with it
They’re pretty sweet girls if you get to know them
Always well dressed too
And extremely charming
Are very clever, especially when it comes to planning out missions
Cunning too
And therefore, very cleanly done work is a trademark
Often lure and seduce male victims as part of their job
But don’t have any tolerance for men in real life
Pretty much the only thing they rely on their brother gang for is new weapons
Otherwise, they are completely independent
In conclusion, The Velvets are the current top female gang, thanks to both their link to E.X.O. and their quickly expanding business and infamy

Static Lines | Gang Profile #1: E.X.O. | The Kings
Tumblr media
Leader: Kim Junmyeon, aka Suho
Member count: 9, 8 currently active in Seoul
Fields: Firearm and drug trafficking, media and government infiltration
The current top dogs
Exclusive™
For real; you can’t waltz in and just become a member
They have to want you
And that never happens
Sorry
Brother gang to The Velvets
Rivals to The Bullets and The Sevens
They may look like celebrities and male models
Their visuals are in the top 0.1%
No post, only fax
But they won’t hesitate to to commit even mass murder if it means maintaining their status
Will literally go so far as to weed out even the smallest of threats and dispose of them, painfully
The power they have over the media and authorities is unreal
Everyone is either bribed, blackmailed, or just too afraid to fight them
Seriously, they’re one of the few gangs that aren’t for hire, even for a good number
They don’t do dirty work for higher ups
Higher ups to dirty work for them
And that’s what’s so scary about them
No other gang name is able to invoke so much fear and respect at the same time
No other has sat on the throne for this long either
Very consistent with the quality of their work
Have eyes and ears everywhere
Nothing the city could possibly show is missed from their radar
Have access to almost everything they could possibly want or need
As a result, they always know when, where, and how to strike
Ultimately, E.X.O. is the very last gang anyone wants to mess with, unless you have a death wish
And even then there are much nicer ways to die

A/N: Heyy, it’s been a while since I was active here. I’ve been really sick and completely swamped in school work and other projects and finding time to update has proven difficult. I’m sorry for my inconsistency and I’ll try my hardest to improve that, but to make my life easier, I've decided to only update each series once every two weeks. Hopefully, you'll understand my situation. In the mean time, here’s the introduction for my second series. Character profiles will follow shortly! :)
XOXO, Eugene <3

The Silk Phoenix | Chapter One
Tumblr media
Warnings: None for this chapter
Word count: 3,930
~
- April 1924, Manhattan, New York.
The sharp elastic thwack of the tennis ball colliding with Junmyeon’s tennis racket made you wince ever so slightly. The tennis ball soared back over the net to the other side of the court and you watched as Jongdae and Jongin ran to save it. Jongin swung his racket with a strong arm, sending the ball back to Junmyeon and Minseok.
That was how the game had been going on for nearly an hour now. Hit, smack, miss, repeat. You let out a sigh, boredom in the breath that passed your lips. Looking over you saw your three other companions, Krystal, Tiffany, and Irene, still very much on the edge of their seats. Their eyes went wherever the ball did, still wide in excitement. You wondered if they ever got secretly tired during activities like these, and if not, why it was so easy for it to happen to you.
It had been a wonderful idea to ask the boys to play a game of tennis for the viewing pleasure of your lady guests for the day. It had been a wonderful idea when you begged and pleaded ever so sugary sweet to your four brothers, using their mutual soft spots for you to your advantage. It had been a wonderful idea when you and your guests sat down under the cool shade of the porch and the servants brought out tall glasses of sticky iced lemonade and freshly baked tea cakes and tarts. It had been a wonderful idea when Minseok had taken the first service, making sure to cheekily wink and the ladies before he did, causing your guests to giggle and squeal and blush madly.
It certainly wasn't a wonderful idea now, not to you. Your patience and attention span had worn thin as a sheet of tracing paper and you were wishing with all your might that the final game point would come around so you could be free at last from this torturous game of repetition.
And glory be when Jongin, after so long, delivered the winning strike and hit the ball past Junmyeon and Minseok’s defenses, winning the third and final game point. You and your companions jumped to your feet in cheers of delight, yours truthfully in relief. The winning pair hollered shouts of triumph, pumping their fists in the air and pulling faces at their older opponents. It was an amusing sight, but you couldn’t find the energy to laugh.
After a minute, the four boys, their beautifully sunkissed skin glistening in sweat, came jogging over to the porch. There, the few servants that had been on standby presented them with crisp fresh towels and glasses of ice cold water as you and your party congratulated them on a game well played. You looked on with a knowing eye as your three friends took the chance to sidle up closer to your brothers, offering to refill their water glasses and get them more towels. You rolled your eyes and snorted to yourself, not at your friends, but at how your brothers seemed to take advantage of this situation and bask in whatever fussing and attention they were being given. All four were very aware of what effect they had on women, and you knew they took pride in it although they probably would never admit it.
“Aren’t you going to get me more water, dear sister? Winning that game has got me absolutely parched.” Jongin grinned as he came up to you.
“Oh go drown in a puddle, Jongin.” you replied, but not without a joking smile, which your brother laughed at in return.
“So, how was the game? Did we really play good?” he asked.
You shrugged. “I don't know, I lost interest somewhere after the first set.” you said.
Jongin pouted at you and crossed his arms over his chest in a false sourness. “I played so well and you didn't even watch me. How could you, Y/N? I thought you loved me.” he whined.
You smiled at him endearingly, reaching out to ruffle his fluffy hair. “I'm sorry, dearest brother. I have taken you for granted. I promise not to do it again.” you said. That satisfied Jongin, and his puppy features brightened up and he grinned childishly at you, earning a small giggle.
“Y/N!” You heard Jongdae shout your name. Bracing yourself for more of his relentlessly, never-ending teasing, you turned to him, facial expression trying to show interest.
“Will your sweet, darling lover boy joining any time today? Perhaps for dinner?” he asked. The looks on everyone else's faces made it clear that Jongdae wasn't the only one who wanted to know.
Your face on the other hand, dropped at the mention of your courter. Being the sole heir to his family’s entire shipping business empire, Oh Sehun was a very busy man. But for the last month, Sehun had been especially hard to get a hold of. He frequented your household more seldom and talked to you less, much to your disappointment. You hated to admit it, but you missed and craved his presence. Sometimes, his long absences and many excuses angered you, and often you were ready to give him a piece of your mind. However, that fire was easily extinguished by the loving, carefully worded apology letters he wrote to you, which always accompanied the expensive gifts he would send to let you know he was thinking of you constantly. You'd forgive and try to understand his position, and like many years ago, it only made you yearn for him more.
“Ah, no.” you answered Jongdae. “He’s busy this entire week, just like he was last week.”
It was almost funny to see how your news deflated the mood, especially that of your lady friends. You knew they'd been wanting to meet with your highly esteemed lover, regardless of the fact that you and him were practically a pair. It didn't annoy you though. In fact, it made you quite proud to know that although he had all the girls he could possibly want at his feet, Sehun had chosen to shower his affections upon you instead.
“Well then, shall we all head inside?” Junmyeon said, very obviously trying to help bring up the mood again. “I think you ladies would enjoy the likes of the family jazz collection. Largest one in all of Manhattan.”
Your heart settled a bit as Junmyeon successfully whisked the group away to show off what was truly your music-loving mother's grand record collection. Jongin squeezed your shoulder with a comforting smile before escorting you inside to follow the others. Out of everyone, only he could really understand you in that very moment.
*
Your exquisite creme silk dress felt like a chrysalis of impending death as you sat at the large mahogany dining table with your family. While your brothers made lively conversation with your parents, cosying up to your mother like the mama’s boys they were and constantly trying to embarrass one another with crazy stories of what happened during the day, you sat low in your chair, picking aimlessly at the food on your plate. Your healthy appetite hadn't made its usual appearance that evening, even when presented with the marvelous smells of the evening's spread.
The 12 carat diamond statement necklace around your neck, the one Sehun had given you two weeks ago, felt way too heavy. You could feel it weighing you down, constraining you to your seat so you could slowly simmer in the boiling soup that was your own upset.
“Why, Y/N my sweet, you haven't touched your food. What's wrong?” your father said out of the blue, winning what little attention you had to give. “Is tonight's meal not palatable enough? Would you like to request something else from the kitchens, dear?” he asked in a concerned tone.
“Y/N’s just lovesick, father.” Jongdae said, smirking around the rim of his wine glass at you as he spoke.
“Shut up.” you muttered bitterly and forcefully set your fork onto you plate with a clatter. You wanted to refute, but with such a convincing statement, your normal itch to fight back had been shut down.
Your mother offered you a sympathetic sigh and comforting smile. “Don't be so down, Y/N sweetie. I'm sure Sehun would come see you everyday if he could. He must think of you always, I'm sure of it.” she said.
“Yeah, I'm sure he does.” you said quietly. You sat back in your chair with your hands in your lap. Never in your life had you so badly wanted something to help distract you, to keep your fast paced mind preoccupied. The more you just sat there doing nothing, the more wrapped up in your cold endless thoughts you got.
“It'll be okay, Y/N,” Jongin said, smiling at you. “Who knows, maybe your waiting will pay off and you'll see him at the Byuns’ party on Friday night. And if not, you're gonna have so much fun anyway.”
Jongin did have a point. The Byuns were known for their infamous annual Spring party, and it was one of the things you looked forward to every year. It was an entire night filled with delicious food, music, and dancing just to mark the beginning of the new season. Your absolute favourite part was the fireworks display that Baekhyun, the Byun's only son and close friend to you and your siblings, personally designed and planned out. Baekhyun was always keen to outdo his previous efforts, so every year's display was different and special in its own way. You could never be sure of what to expect, and that was hard to come by nowadays for you.
Thinking about it, you tried for a smile. “Yeah, Friday night will be a good one.” you said, hoping your words would prove correct.
*
“For the love of God, Y/N! Hurry up!” Jongdae yelled from the front door, his voice echoing up to where you stood at the very top of the stairs, adjusting your bejeweled dancing shoes.
It was the night of the Byuns’ Spring party, and you were running fashionably late. Admittedly, you had poorly managed your time throughout the afternoon and when you finally started getting ready, your brothers had already gotten dressed, ready to kill the night.
Smiling sheepishly at Jongdae, because this was the one time his complaining about you was truly justified, you hurried down the stairs and to the front door. He rolled his eyes in irritation and you scurried past him out the door and down to Minseok's awaiting Lincoln Sports Phaeton. You quickly took your place in shotgun, smiling apologetically at your three other brothers who had been waiting in the car.
“Looking good, sis.” Minseok said, giving your appearance a nod of approval from beside you in the driver's seat, not seeming to really care about how long you had made him keep his car in waiting for you.
You grinned in thanks. Even while scrambling to get ready in time, you had managed to pull of one stunner of a look for the night. The white satin dress you wore was covered in beautiful iridescent crystals on the bodice. The skirt was covered in layers of fringe made from hundred of sparkling stringed diamonds no bigger than your pinky nail. You wore a diamond and pearl encrusted pin in your hair and your gloves were made from the softest silk all the way from China. To keep you warm from late night chills, you had an exquisite mink wrap at the handy. No jokes; you were dressed to impress that night.
With everyone in the car, Minseok revved up the engine, producing a satisfying growl from the machine, before driving off.
*
Upon arriving at the Byun mansion, you steeled your nerves in preparation for the intense night. When Minseok pulled his car up to the front of the mansion, Jongin jumped out and rushed to open your door. He offered you his arm, which you graciously linked onto.
“Aren't you the gentleman tonight.” you teased, nudging him with your elbow.
“I'm a gentleman all the time, what're you talking about?” he scoffed, brushing his hair back with his free hand to show how pretend offended he was. You laughed, and so did he.
Minseok tossed the car keys to one of the valet boys, reminding the young man to take extra care of his pride and beauty. “Let’s go.” he said, motioning at the rest of you. Together, the five of you entered the mansion to begin the night.
The open air patio in the very center of the mansion was an image of expensive dreams and extravagance most could only wish to experience. Lines of golden lights had been wrapped around the tall French pillars that stood around the large oval patio, casting a soft yellow glow. The many party guests, all dressed in the most luxurious materials and rarest jewels, milled around, dancing and sipping on beautifully concocted cocktails that came in an array of colours. A full jazz band were playing up a storm from their spot on the landing of the stairs at the far end of the patio. A bodacious woman in a glittery gold dress stood in front of the band, swaying her curves as she sang into a silver mic, her voice surprisingly deep and extremely sensual. A spotlight lit up her figure on the stairs, reflecting off the ruby rings on her fingers as she gripped the mic stand. Many of your childhood memories had been made on those stairs. You remember how one particular game of tag had resulted in Jongin losing a tooth when he tripped over face first on the Swiss marble steps. Thankfully, it had only been a baby tooth that was knocked out and a new one had grown into its place, and present day Jongin had one of the most brilliant toothy grins you knew.
Upon entering the patio, you and your brothers were almost immediately pounced on by the joyous ball of sheep-like laughter that was Byun Baekhyun. Dressed in a gorgeous dinner jacket with velvet lapels that looked softer than a tiger cub’s ears, Baekhyun draped his arms over Minseok and Jongdae's shoulders in glee.
“Glad you could make it, Kims.” he said over the jazz tunes.
“You really did good this year, Baek.” Junmyeon said, looking around at the ongoing party in awe.
“Oh you haven't seen nothing yet! Just wait till I set the sky on fire later tonight. You'll never have seen anything like it.” Baekhyun promised.
“Oh we're waiting alright. Blow us away again, buddy.” Minseok said.
“Will do.” Baekhyun said with a curt salute. He motioned for you all to go off into the party. “Go enjoy yourselves, you lot. Remember, fireworks are at the stroke of midnight.”
“You got it.” the five of you said in unison before leaving Baekhyun to tend to whatever business he had as party host.
“Come on, Y/N, let's dance!” Jongin suggested excitedly. The current song being played was a fast paced jazzy foxtrot. The lively tone lit up the fire in the base of your gut, and you nodded your head in agreement and let Jongin whisk you off to the heart of the party.
“See? I told you you'd have fun.” Jongin said as you danced together.
“How could I not?” you laughed. “This is incredible!”
Together, you and Jongin danced to a few songs, him twirling you around every now and then which made you giggle. This was probably the most fun you had in a few good months. Parties like these were seldom to never to held during the winter months due to the weather. Now, the days were warming up, as was the people's thirst to spend time outdoors investing in more exciting activities. You certainly were no different in that aspect; you had been aching to fill your days with various things to keep you moving. Anything to satiate that hunger for adventure that gnawed at your insides every single day.
The fourth song ended and everyone cheered, hollering, whistling and clapping at what a wonderful dance it had been. Your feet were just starting to really feel your three and a half inch heels, but the oncoming soreness didn't matter to you, not now, and Jongin was about to take your hand for the next dance when the feeling of someone's hands on your shoulders sent a chill down your spine.
“I'm sorry, Jongin, but may I take the next dance with your beautiful sister?” Sehun’s deep voice felt like a kitten lick to your ear. Bubbles of a hundred different feelings tickled at your insides as he ran his hands up and down your forearms, the cold of the gold rings on his fingers causing you to exhale lightly through your mouth. You hadn't yet seen his face, but to have him standing right behind you was enough to toss the night into hypercolour.
Jongin gave you a smile. His prediction from the dinner the other night had turned out to be true. “She's all yours, Sehun.” he said, glad to leave you two alone and search for another dance partner or get himself a drink. He gave you a knowing wink before he turned and left, which made you frown a bit in confusion, but that dissipated quickly when your new companion stepped out in front of you.
Oh Sehun looked no short of amazing that night. Over a crisp white dress shirt and black silk vest, he wore a velvet dinner jacket in the deep burgundy colour of only the finest aged wine, a gold rose pin on the lapel. His matching trousers were crinkle free, the folding line down the middle of each leg accentuating his height. His shoes were spotless and gleaming, polished by the gods like always. He smelled like morning glory flowers and fresh pressed linen. Last but definitely not least, he had on his signature face; dark piercing eyes that could see right through you and lips that were almost smirking and scowling at the same time.
“Miss me, beautiful?” Sehun asked, his lips quirking into a playful smile.
“I didn't know I'd see you here.” you said,  choosing not to answer his question.
“And miss the biggest party of the season? Not when I knew you'd be here, no.” he said, his words causing a surge of butterflies in your stomach. He always, always, knew what to say to you.
Taking your hand as the new song began, this one a happy waltz, Sehun guided you into the dance. All the while, he kept his eyes on yours, seizing them in that vice-like hold that you could never rip free from.
“I must be the luckiest man in the world today.” he said, tone quiet so only you could hear.
“And why is that?” you asked.
“I get to dance with the prettiest girl in all of New York City tonight.” he replied, arching a brow at you. “And she's right here before me.”
Inevitably, you blushed at his sweet words. You couldn't help it. Sehun was the only person to treat you like this. Only he knew how to make you blossom like the daisies did in April. Only he seemed to know all your thoughts and how to read you like an open book. From the stars in your eyes to the sensitive goosebumps on your skin, he saw everything and knew what to do about them. He was clever about you, and to say you liked that was an understatement.
When the song drew to an end, Sehun took you hands in his and held them close to his chest. “Tell me, Y/N, do you hate me being away from you? Do my long absences cause you any upset?” he asked.
He knew. You could tell from his tone that he knew. What he said wasn't a question rather than it was a cue for you to admit what you had been feeling these past few weeks. Slowly, you nodded you head. “Yes, Sehun.” you said softly. Your eyes still never left his.
“Would you like it if you could see me every single day, spend all the hours you want with me, whenever you please?” he asked.
You smiled tightly at the thought. “I think I would, yes.” you answered.
A contented smile spread across Sehun's face. “Then marry me, Y/N.” he said.
The air in your lungs seemed to dissolve away for a second. Marry? Marry him, Sehun? It had honestly never passed your mind. You hadn't expected this to happen, certainly not tonight. Sure, you were of the age where you parents were starting to fuss over you and prepare for you to be married off. All the girls your age were either engaged or already married. But you had never really sat down to think about it. You felt like there were a thousand things to do before settling to become someone's wife. You weren't even sure on what terms marriage should be built upon. It was a completely alien subject to you.
However, you knew that no such chance would appear again. No one else was going to suddenly ask you to marry him, you were sure of that. Even if that were to happen, you wouldn't want it. At the very least, Sehun had a sense of security about him. He cared for you, and you knew a life with him would be comfortable and safe. At the very least, you knew Sehun. You knew how he worked, his preferences. At the very least, you had a chance to find a happy and meaningful relationship, something you didn't get to experience when you were younger. It was the best you were going to get, especially with how your life was going now.
The clang of a clock chiming midnight broke you from your string of thought. You saw how Sehun was patiently waiting for your answer. His hands had never held yours so firmly. Your stomach butterflies were fluttering in a frantic fit, still in a disarray of shock. Swallowing down the lump in your throat, you made up your mind. You sucked in a calming breath and grabbed your nerves in a strong mental fist.
“Alright.” you said to Sehun. “Let's get married.”
Sehun gave you the biggest grin you ever saw on him and lifted your hands his lips to kiss them sweetly. As if to only make the situation more out of a movie than it already was , the whistling of fireworks being set off screamed in your ears, followed by the heart shuddering bangs as the clear night sky above you was scattered with crackling sparks of colour.
You looked up to see the the sky decorated with a dozen flowers of light. They'd spark up quickly and create a glorious pattern that left glowing specks in your vision, then fade away the next moment before new sparks exploded to show you something new. It was an ever changing mess of beauty, much like your life. Everything around you drowned out until you could only see and hear the fireworks. Your life was changing, even now as you stood in Sehun's arms, and you knew it was only going to change more from here on out, just like the fireworks refused to stay the same as they shrieked and painted the cerulean night sky.

~
- July 1923, Manhattan, New York.
The rim of your delicate champagne glass was cool on your lips as your gingerly sipped your drink. The air around you was thick and almost felt compacted as the bubbly liquid washed over the desert on your tongue, quenching the dry spell that had been ghosting your mouth. You sighed, both in relief and slight despair.
“Lighten up, sis.” the voice laced with underlying amusement belonging to your brother Jongdae spoke from beside you. He was laid back in a relaxed position on the expansive and luxurious lounge seat you were perched on, foot propped up on his knee almost as if to show off his new handmade Italian leather Oxfords. His hair was smartly combed back for the evening, and his black tailored suit absolutely free from any tiny specks of lint. He smiled knowingly at you when you glanced at him.
“Jongdae.” you said his name, to which he lifted a brow to in response.
“I want to go home.” you said.
Jongdae scoffed and emitted a short chuckle. “We just got here, Y/N! We can't leave yet!” he laughed.
And it was true. You hadn't been here for much more than twenty minutes. Here, The Artrium, Manhattan’s night club for only the most rich and famous in the entire city. The club was situated at the  top floor of one of the city's biggest skyscrapers and provided one of the best views of night time New York. The lavish parties that were held every Friday night were only ones you and your brothers never failed to attend and this was the only night club your parents allowed any of you to step foot in. No other place was good enough for your family name, no other would do. If the Kim siblings had a craving for the joys of New York nightlife, this was the place you'd go. And tonight, you had the very best seat in the entire set up, in the indoor glass loft balcony, free to watch the various attendees party the night away amongst the swinging jazz bands and show girls in elaborate skimpy outfits.
Your shoulders slumped and you clicked your tongue against your teeth. “But Jongdae, I'm bored.” you whined. You threw your head back and let out a groan of exasperation. Jongdae only snorted and laughed more, much to your annoyance.
Jongdae was the one brother who never really took anything you did to heart. He was always ready to make fun out of your misery. Had it been Minseok or Suho you complained to, they would have instantly fussed over you and made sure to get you home as soon as possible. Even Jongin would have at least sympathised with you and tried to find a way to make your more comfortable. Unfortunately, they were all out somewhere in the mass of people below, the former two meeting with the most important figures here tonight on business terms, the latter either near the bar wooing the many ladies that always seemed to be in his company or on the dance floor showing off his impressive dancing skills. They had abandoned you with only the ever critical Jongdae to laugh at your woes. Traitors, all four of them.
“Go join the party if you're so desperate,” Jongdae suggested, still smirking as his gestured at the downstairs with a jutt of his chin. “It should help your little predicament.”
“Do you want me to die?” you shot back, glaring slightly at him. He knew the ways of the wild parties didn't suit you, and with you little experience, you weren't going to have it any easier. A twenty year old lady such as yourself would get shoved and tossed around like a ragdoll down there if she didn't have a man to accompany her. All your life, you liked parties and also hated them immensely because of that.
“Yes,” Jongdae’s smug reply to your rhetorical question made your glare narrow even more. “But your boredom isn't going to cure itself, and I'm sure as hell not taking you anywhere, especially not home.” He shrugged nonchalantly, earning a scoff from you.
Seeing that Jongdae was surely no help this evening (like every other evening), you busied yourself with people watching. The evening would pass eventually, right? The minutes went by as your eyes scoured the crowd, inspecting their expensive one-of-a-kind outfits for the night. You watched as they danced to the loud lively jazz music, the jewels and feathers the women wore sparkling and fluttering as they moved. At some point, you caught a glimpse of your two elder brothers, who appeared to be making small talk with a few well dressed middle aged gentleman. You tried to send telekinetic pleas for help to them, staring at them in deep concentration hoping they'd somehow magically come rescue you. Of course, it didn't work.
A good slice of the night went by, and by the time an excited, puppy like Jongin showed up, you had made your way to your fourth glass of champagne and were ready for a fifth. The alcohol had helped to take off the edge a bit, and your ears had a soft warm buzz in them.
You smiled sweetly at Jongin, who was panting slightly with a stirling grin on his handsome face. He had clearly been giving every other man a run for their money; the golden orange light from the high chandeliers made apparent the light sheen of perspiration just above his brow, his chestnut hair was disheveled, the top two buttons of his crisp white shirt undone and his fancy velvet dinner jacket was folded over his arm. Things must've gotten pretty crazy on that dance floor, you guessed.
“Finally!” you exclaimed, placing your glass on the lounge table in front of you. You threw your hands up, making your best effort to ignore the snort coming from Jongdae. “Someone has come to my aid. Take me home, sweet, loving brother.”
You held your hands out to Jongin, and he took them in his. Much to your surprise however, you were pulled into an embrace as Jongin, seeming a bit euphoric, encased you in his arms.
“Oh, sister! Beautiful, lovely, sister!” Jongin shouted in between almost delirious giggles. He pulled away and held you by the shoulders at arm's length. “You won't believe who I just saw come in, Y/N.”
You furrowed your brow in confusion at what Jongin said. If he was this excited, it had to be someone big. But who could Jongin possibly be so excited to have seen?
This caught Jongdae’s attention as well. He leaned forward in expectation, waiting for Jongin to spill. “Why, who's here tonight?” he asked, sounding genuinely interested.
Jongin’s eyes shone with glee and anticipation. “It's Sehun!” he announced, shaking you vigorously as he did.
Upon hearing this, both you and Jongdae looked at each other, exchanging looks of disbelief and shock. If you had been slightly buzzed from all the champagne you had consumed this evening, you certainly were on alert now.
Sehun, the one and only Oh Sehun, was here in The Artrium tonight.
“What?! When did he return from France?” Jongdae asked, getting up from his seat and looking around like he was looking for the man of topic himself.
“I don't know, but he's here!” Jongin was getting more and more excited by the second. You didn't blame him; Sehun and Jongin were thick as thieves growing up since they were they same age. When Sehun had been sent off to study abroad, Jongin was forced to spend the last handful of years without his closest friend. Seeing his best friend after all this time must've really set off something in your already easily excited brother.
Then there was you. Suddenly, your urge to leave had disintegrated and was replaced with a feeling of fluster and...nervousness. Sehun had been the closest thing you ever had to a crush. You used to play with him and Jongin as a child, and whenever the dangerous mischief you and your brother got up to went wrong, Sehun had always been there to help you when you were hurt. As you grew into your teens and were learning to become a lady of class, you saw less and less of Sehun. However, these increasingly lengthy periods in between meetings made you more aware of the ways he was changing as he became a man. You couldn't deny that every time you saw him, he had only managed to become more handsome than before. And this distance greatly increased your fondness for him, much like that saying goes. That story did come to an abrupt pause when Sehun was sent off to boarding school in London by his parents. He hadn't kept in touch, not with you, and you only got news about him through the snippets of gossip you would overhear at afternoon teas or dinner parties. Last you heard, he had gone to Paris and was attending a well-known gentlemen's university.
“Is he really here?” you asked, voice coming out smaller than you planned. You could feel your heartbeat picking up its pace in your chest.
Jongin nodded in enthusiasm. The three of you immediately ran to the edge of the balcony. Leaning over the railing, you scanned the ever moving crowd for Sehun. Why you did that, you didn't know. Sehun could very well look completely different now. You weren't sure of a face to fix the name to anymore, so you looked at the many faces below you one by one, hoping that your gut feeling would know him when you saw him.
“Jongdae! Jongin! Y/N! Look who we found!” the voice of Minseok, your eldest brother, shouted from behind you. Spinning around in a snap, you saw Minseok and Suho enter the lounge.
And then your jaw dropped slack in a loss for words and your eyes widened in pure surprise.
Standing with your brothers was a tall, striking man in a fine tuxedo adorned with an elaborate platinum and diamond pin on the silk lapel. His shiny leather Oxfords could put Jongdae’s to shame and his skin was youthful and flawless. He looked extremely well groomed, not a single hair out of place. His sharp features and angular eyes were like knives and lit embers, ready to do harm if provoked.
It was Sehun. You knew it.
In an instant, Jongin and Jongdae had rushed over to welcome their friend. It was a bundle of messy hugs and yells of excitement. Jongin was the most energetic, his joyful laughter loudest amongst the bunch. You hadn't seen him this happy in a while.
You on the other hand stayed where you were. Now that he was right in front of you, you couldn't move an inch. His presence had frozen you to the spot, and you could hear the thumping of your own heart and the rushing of blood in the your ears. You placed a gentle hand over your chest like you had to stop your heart from literally jumping out of its home. Why were you reacting like this?
“It's been too long, way too long, since we've all been together!” Suho said, a brilliant grin on his mature handsome face.
“You should've told us you were coming back, you idiot.” Jongdae said, playfully smacking Sehun on the back.
The man himself smiled sheepishly at that and raised in hands in mock surrender. “It was sudden, I couldn't do anything about it.” he explained.
“Ah well, it's great to have you back. It's incredible.” Jongin said, finally having calmed down a tiny bit. “You remember our sister Y/N, right?”
As Jongin’s word and gesture, Sehun finally looked at you. Your eyes met, and you almost dry choked. It felt like he was burning you, scorching you from the inside. The depth of just that simple gaze scared you, but you couldn't look at anything else.
“Of course.” Sehun said, his deep voice raking at your insides.
He stepped over to you, your breath catching in your trachea as he got nearer. You jumped slightly when he took your hand in his. Your cheeks were set ablaze when he brought that hand to his soft lips and planted a kiss on the back of your hand, eyes still locked with yours as he did.
He then drew himself back up to his full height, warm hand still holding onto yours. You felt small before him, and you were sure he could crush you if he wanted. You hoped he couldn't hear your heart as it pounded away.
“Hello, Y/N,” Sehun said quietly, just to you. The way his velvet voice spoke your name made it sound like a priceless artifact, an excotic spice. It sent a shiver down your spine and you tried your best to conceal it from him.
“I'm sorry I didn't contact you while I was away for so long. I didn't know how I could, nor did I want to bother you. I'm sorry if I have upset you. Could you forgive me?” he said, quirking his brow and lifting the corner of his lip in a small apologetic smile.
Tongue still unable to find the power of speech, you nodded slowly. In your head, you cursed at what a stupid fool you must look like to him.
However you felt or what you thought, Sehun smiled at your nod. His lips kissed the back of your hand again, definitely not in greeting this time. Still smiling, he leaned in to whisper in your ear. “You look absolutely beautiful tonight, just like how I remember.”

A/N: Hello everyone! This will be my very first post here, and I really hope it's going to do well. This is a just a vague introduction to what this series is going to be about. The Great Gatsby is by far one of my favourite books and films, so I wanted to write something based around that concept. I liked the idea of the NCT and EXO members in this time period, and this is the result. The prologue will be posted in the next couple days!
