unfortunately the new desktop website layout is... not fun for us, so we are taking a small break from using tumblr regularily! we will likely log in on weekends :]

So I think the best strat here is for the users who did get the new layout to just stop using the desktop version of the site for a while, like a week or a month or however long their 'experiment' is supposed to last, while the users who didn't get the new layout should keep using the desktop version like normal or, perhaps, use it even more than usual.

My guess is that they're doing basic A/B testing on the new layout to see if it would boost engagement: the userbase is split roughly 50/50 between the 2 versions and they are going to be comparing the engagement data between the 2 groups of users to see if it's worth it switching everyone to the new layout or not.

Basically, if you got the new layout and don't like it - don't use it. If engagement metrics of group B (new layout) are lower than those of group A (no change), the experiment will be considered a failure and they will have to reverse the change.

If your tumblr suddenly looks like twitter - it's a sign to log off and go touch some grass! (or just use the mobile app since that engagement data isn't relevant to this particular experiment)

Very sorry but I thought everyone used their pointer finger?? How do your hands fit on the computor otherwise? Do you like rotate your hands every time you're done typing a word? My thumbs just kind of like, stick up into the air? [not a falsehood] [I guess to be fair I kind of only use my middle and pointer fingers to type but still??]

no worries/apologies needed!!! : ] i made a big post about touch typing but um to answer the more specific question, the base of the palms of my hands are resting in front of the keyboard, and then i cup my hands over. it's like playing piano, but you don't gotta hold your hands up!!!

anyway, in touch typing you use the home row keys.

that's why there's a little ridge on the F and J keys on most keyboards-- it's so that you can find them with your index finger!

as a note, touch typing doesnt work for everyone adn there are plenty of other methods to use the keyboard. as previously mentioned i don't really touch type with my right hand, just my left!

um, here is a link to a wikipedia article about it. i don't know if it's helpful or not. i looked at it and there was a picture on it taken in 1910 and my brain phased out of existance, unfortunately.

Please tell me how you use the middle finger on the spacebar im so scared.

anon i am a little scared (respectful + honorary + in awe) of your methods . i use my thumns, so that my 4 fingers on each hand can use the touch typing method-- at leats for my left hand that is, my right hand kind of has the bad habit of bouncing around from playing minecraft as a kid and switching from mouse to keyboard quickly. (funnily enough that's how i learned to type fast--gotta press T to talk and get my message out fast as possible before placing those blocks!)

i mean i guess, your thumbs are in themidlde if you. put both hands together??? is this what this means ???

I heard one time Etho went to a hotel, and the carpet wasn't okay, and he ripped it all up, and people were like "did someone die on that carpet, are you destroying evidence?" and he said no, it's just unacceptably poor quality. He cannot stand shoddy worksmanship when it comes to a weave of a carpet.
