It’s time for internet purity culture to stop. I’m writing this on behalf of Ophelia (@ladycorvina​) who has faced an absolutely appalling amount of harassment, racism and suicide baiting from an online harassment campaign headed by witches-ofcolor and visibilityofcolor. The same two bloggers have also spearheaded a harassment campaign against myself and numerous other transmascs- so I have full solidarity with Ophelia and know her experiences are both 100% real and absolutely 100% inexcusable.

The harassment for Ophelia started nearly 3 months ago, when she made a post about ‘hot girl summer’ - referencing the shift from summer to autumn in a lighthearted and wholesome post. Soon after, her notes were flooded with people accusing her of racefaking- according to their logic no black woman would make a post like that and so these users assumed she was white and sent in hate to her. Ophelia is a black woman and it is horrific to see how immediately people would accuse her of faking her race simply because of a lighthearted post about summer and autumn. Those who didn’t accuse her of racefaking still sent in hate- with truly despicable things to say to a black woman, essentially bringing up the hurtful antagonism which slanders black people they don’t like as ‘white on the inside’. Truly horrible stuff to say to another human being. 

The harassment for Ophelia began to escalate and soon she was dealing with suicide baiting. I’ve been the victim of suicide baiting before and honestly its fucked up. That’s the bottom line. We’ve got people out here accusing a black woman of being white and telling her to commit suicide over it. It’s fucked up and this harassment culture only gets worse. 

Ophelia has said to me how all of this makes her feel and it’s understandably not making her feel safe online any more- she mentions in her own posts about the immense stress and mental health triggerings that she’s been experiencing these last few months. It’s not okay and it needs to stop. 

This is where the harassment from visibilityofcolor and witches-ofcolor come in. Mainly voc rather than w-oc, but voc caught wind of the posts with all of this harassment in. Here are some anons from vocs blog and replies:

Note the escalation: this is something voc and w-oc have done a lot when they were harassing me and other transmascs. It’d start with one accusation- and then they’d start tacking on extra things with no basis or evidence. Here, they’ve gone from accusations of racefaking, to likening Ophelia and her followers to white supremacists. Always escalating things out of context to convince onlookers of how Terrible TM and Horrible TM the target of the harassment is. 

They escalate it again by suggesting that Ophelia was encouraging TERFS to defend her. There is no evidence for this at all- on the contrary, Ophelia has been very anti transphobia and been an ally to myself and other transmascs caught up in the harassment from voc and w-oc. This is targeted harassment and escalation- a common tactic of internet harassers who harass people by ‘calling them out’. As you can see- this entire response to a black woman making a post about autumn and summer is unwarranted, unnecessary and untenable. 

There’s a lot more in Ophelia’s post about it  but you get the idea. Ophelia had to make a post defending her race as being black and to tell people to stop sending her messages to kill herself. The fact she had to do that should make voc and the other harassers ashamed. It’s despicable. 

Following this, Ophelia made the (above linked) post which mentions the harassment that voc, w-oc and others have done against other black people and many transmasculine people, such as myself, in an attempt to show just how relentless voc and w-oc are. It cannot be understated here just how many people they’ve cyberstalked, harassed and bullied over the last nearly a year now. 

In Ophelias own words the extent of the harassment even included “accusations of being a rape apologist, pedophile supporter, considering other black people niggers, being “anti-black” . And to be point blank, she has told me about how all of this has re-triggered her suicidal ideation, panic attacks and a mental heath decline. This Is Not Okay. This is not normal behaviour to harass someone so much that this has happened. I won’t mince my words, what voc and w-oc (and all the other harassers) have done is 100% utterly, utterly fucked.  

Ophelia even had to change urls recently to escape most of the harassment- and shes asked me to make this post to get it out there that she is not doing well at all from any of this and a) needs our support and b) needs to be left alone by all of the harassers. 

So to wrap things up- ‘callout culture’ is absolutely fucked up and I hope every one of the harassers is ashamed of themselves.

I don’t think I’ll ever stop saying this, but bullying should be treated more seriously. Bullying directly affects the most basic social interactions. When you’re being ostracized for anything crucial to yourself - your weight, ethnicity, mental illness, neurodivergence, sexuality or gender, anything at all -, it really fucks you up, because you don’t feel safe anywhere you go. You’ll likely not trust your own friends or loved ones because you might be terrified they’re actually making fun of you. e.g. I literally can’t see my own friends whispering something to one another without wondering if they’re talking about me.

And it’s especially more awful when you’re also abused at home, because most of the time schools/colleges/workplaces don’t give a shit, and when your family doesn’t either, you have no support system at all.
