Chandelure released James' hand once he was sure the human wasn't going to just drop back in the bush for whatever reason. From nerves or just deciding the bush was a safer place to spend the night.
"Well, if it makes you feel better I was only following you for a few minutes." Though that was probably the last thing he wanted to hear. If he wasn't the one following him it was probably someone, or something with far more malicious intentions.
"Ghosts should be the least of your concerns if you ask me. Not that they won't come for your life force. But I would be much more wary of other humans like yourself." He debated taking some himself but Chandelure could be nice when he felt like it to strangers. Though he had a bit of a mean streak when his trainer wasn't present. He wouldn't be tossed aside so he'd usually deal with the repercussions at a later date.
"As for the way out..." His head turned towards what seems just like more thick bushes and trees, raising a hand to point in that same direction. No trail, so if anyone was lost there would be no telling which way was what. "Lucky for you I know my way around here. Aren't you lucky!" He beamed almost expecting to be praised for his knowledge and generosity.
James was somewhat hesitant to the hand offered to him, but then again... He really did not want to spend the night like this...
He took the stranger's hand, helping to bring himself to be freed from the thorn bush's grasp. He uttered a quiet 'thanks' as he stood and tried to brush himself off. Pretty sure there were still thorns stuck to him here and there, but it wasn't something he could particularly deal with right away.
"I mean... I've honestly felt like I've been followed ever since I entered this place. Like by a ghost or something... As weird as that sounds..." He admitted sheepishly. "You don't happen to know how to get out of here, do you?"

He DID feel bad but what was he supposed to do at this point? Could it be fixed? Maybe some glue... He debates putting it back together with psychic but the second he released it the statue would fall apart once more.
There was also the option of just fleeing. Though Chandelure was at least aware of the situation to know that would lead to other problems.
The mention of the volcano made him flinch. Sure fire damage he took was cut in half but a volcano would most likely kill him. Actually there was a 99.99% chance he would die. Also there was the problem of Koko just giving up on the Alolan people and Pokémon. Why would a god forsake its own people because and outsider hecked up? Maybe the bosses had a point in banning legendaries from the subway. They were jerks.
"H-hey wait a minute! If something happens to me people would be worried! I can fix it! I can fix it! Promise!"
He in fact has no idea how to, but he'll figure it out. Hopefully.
"Ah, yes. Showing no remorse for what you have done and making excuses. That's totally going to placate someone's anger."
Spoilers, it wasn't. Man, what a brat. Where did he get off on thinking any of this was okay. Not only was this sacrilege but there doesn't seem like an ounce of respect in this kid's body.
Oh well, guess Koko was going to scare some respect in him.
"I don't know about that. I mean, why should I help people that aren't grateful enough to at least respect objects with my image on them. It's a real downer I'll tell you. Maybe if I sacrifice you to the volcano I'll be up to the task of helping people again."

"That wouldn't annoy you? Someone thinking they knew more about bugs? Can you really be sure? How can you be certain they would be friends?"
This kid was almost... almost making him feel like he was over reacting about the whole thing. But he just couldn't shake the defensive feeling.
“My boss is …. A pro with bugs. If somebody said they knew more about bugs than him… I guess …
I mean, I’d probably bring them to boss so they could infodump about bugs in peace and become friends. I ain’t about to judge people’s knowledge on bugs. ain’t my place.”

"I'm not saying they can't know about trains--" He huffs, feeling annoyed.
"I just think they shouldn't be such a know it all about it. And if you get it then think about it! What if someone started to explain whatever your boss is a pro at to them?"
“Believe me, I understand loyalty to a boss more’n anybody, but… like…
Why can’t they? Train knowledge is supposed t’be shared, yeah?”

What’s a fake train guy
"Someone who thinks they know just as much about trains as my boss!"
"There's only two Subway Bosses and that person isn't one!"

He looks to the small shattered statue of the very Pokémon in front of him, the island's deity. Something about it being a relic the people of Alola considered valuable. Protecting them.
This could be worse, probably.
"It isn't like I did it intentionally! If I did it would be in worse shape! It's not like you're going to stop helping people because its ruined."
Right?
“I think it’s broken.”
Sentence Meme sentences
"Yeah, it certainly is. And who's fault is exactly?" Hint, it was the person he was talking to.
