paper angels | jeon jeongguk
[Jeon Jeongguk hates winter, but soon changes his mind with the powers of making paper angels.]
[A package with a good 1.4k words.]
It was winter. Kids of all ages sledding down the steepest of hills, laughing and getting lost in the pile of snow that would wait for them at the bottom of those hills. Snow angels littered around the areas of your apartment, left by smaller children while their elders threw snowballs at each other, aiming for their face, but hit their bodies as a chance to save them from the disaster that waited against them if they did so. Poorly built snowmen went from street to street, some missing noses, arms, or hats, making you feel bad for those snowmen as you could only count a few that had been built perfectly.
You loved winter. You loved playing in the snow along with that. You adored building forts out of snow and always challenged yourself to recreate that tall fort, Squidward had made during your favorite episode of Spongebob, where all the characters had their share of a snowball fight (even if you failed every time). Ice skating with all of your friends was always such a blast. Laughing your asses off whenever one of you fell down and nearly broke a bone. And you couldn’t forget about the gorgeous wonders of hot chocolate you’d endure after all of your usual activities. The hot steam mixed with the soft and sweet, fluff called marshmallows that floated around in your drink.
It was safe to say, that indeed, winter, was one, if not your favorite season.
However, unlike you, your boyfriend, Jeon Jeongguk hated winter.
You honestly thought he was insane. You remember exactly when he told you, how he complained from where he was on his tour how cold it was and before he could speak another word, you went into a huge spill on how the coldest weather was always the best. How warming the blankets were after a long day of feasting on the coldest, how adorable children were when they were bundled up to the fullest, or how lovable dogs were when they were turned into a makeshift cloud of snow.
Although you listed many things about the joys of loving the season, Jeongguk wasn’t with you. He turned the positive look into a negative one. Children being sick everywhere, running noses and crying their eyes out on how they don’t feel good. Yellow snow mixing in with the normal snow, making it a hard choice where to step, the traffic and how exhausting it is to travel anywhere, and the ice. He didn’t say much, as he didn’t need to, ice is just, well, ice. You couldn’t disagree with Jeongguk as those areas were a huge pain to deal with, but, there were so many more pros than cons and you made a promise to your boyfriend that you would show him that.
Jeongguk was given a break from his stringy life as an idol and he spent some of it with his family and his bandmates, but he decided to let you know that he was going to spend some weeks with you, and you were beyond thrilled. It was snowing outside and it took a lot of convincing for him to come travel to where you were located during the winter. You had already decorated your apartment, snowflakes scattered around the shelves, small bulbs of lights hanging everywhere, giving your apartment an appealing glow, and blankets, big and small, stashed in every place needed. You went all out and it wasn’t even Thanksgiving nor Christmas.
It was an early morning when you heard a knock on your door and you didn’t waste any time to rush to the door. Once opened, a pale man with wavy semi-long black hair and red chewed out lips, with an oversized shirt and sweatpants on was starring at you. You let your emotions take over and jumped right into your boyfriend’s figure, hugging him tight as he did so himself. You two hugged for a while (letting your actions do the talking unlike actual words) and decided to go inside before Jeongguk started to whine about the weather. He brought his normal huge duffel bag and admired your decor before throwing it into your bedroom, and throwing himself on the bed.
“Your bed feel amazing.” He said with relief as he quickly snuggled up with one your fuzzy blankets you kept on the edge.
You nodded towards his comment, smiling. You understood the fact that he didn’t have perfect English, but he was learning for you and that made your heart melt more than he already made it.
“Y’know what we are going to do later?”
Jeongguk let out a hum in response, but before you could let the words fall out of your mouth, he immediately popped his head up from the pillow it was rested on.
“We are not going in snow.” He furrowed his brows, whining a tiny bit as he could already tell where you trying to go with your question. Although you planned on going outside with your boyfriend, you knew it would be too difficult, so you settled on an indoor activity. You couldn’t think of too many good ones off of the top of your head, so you relayed on Google to give you an answer, and that Google did. Searching through websites you fiddled around before coming to your final option.
“No, of course not! We’ll be making paper angels!”
Excitement left your body as you explained your task to Jeongguk. Using scissors and cutting paper into rectangles, hearts, circles, weirdly hard origami shapes that only impossible humans can make and opening them up to reveal the beautiful line of perfectly coordinated snowflakes that would be featured all over the tops of your door frame, your walls, and any space that seemed fitting. You were more an cheerful about the idea. The idol hadn’t done such a thing since he was a baby due to his career, so even if he had forgotten the task instructions, you were more than happy on re-teaching him in a way he wouldn’t whine.
Lifting himself off of the bed with a few moans of protest, he gave into your idea and off you two went to the dining room.
You prepared your activity beforehand so you two could start right away and even if you didn’t give Jeongguk any time to rest after his flight, he was alright with sitting in the chair with a blanket wrapped over his frame and watch as you made small examples of shapes you would be able to cut into the snowflake, some seemed easier than others, but as you explained how they would look after, he took delight in the sparkles that shook your eyes as you opened the snowflakes to see how amazing they looked after.
Once you finished your tutorial, you both set off on the adventure of creating snowflakes.
It was honestly a soothing experience. Jeongguk was actually having fun with cutting out the shapes he cut into the pieces of paper and opening them up to see what they looked like after all of his hard work. His bunny smile would show up whenever you grabbed the clear tape and hung them over the house, as if he was a child getting giddy after his parent looked at excellent grade. He made nearly enough to cover the entire house but soon stopped due to your low paper supply, although you promised him that you’d run to get paper soon and hang more up (which was probably a bad promise on your part).
It was over midnight after you finished your activity and you didn’t feel like cleaning up the whole operation so you left the pieces of paper piled on the floor and looked outside.
Watching the specs of snow fall onto the ground, smiling. Jeongguk came break from his potty break (as he called it) and saw you gazing out the window and shook his head, loving your cute nature. Picking up the blanket he wrapped himself in before and trotting over to you and wrapped it around both him and you. As soon as he sat down, you snuggled in his chest, soaking up in his warmth and he put his arms around you and engulfed you in his body.
“paper angels were fun, maybe tomorrow snow.” He let out. Although you threw a smile at his request, you were far too tired to answer.
That night both of you fell asleep by the window, snow falling every where on the ground, while the paper angels you made filled the house with memories never forgotten.
