trans without dysphoria
Today I fell in the âcan you be transgender without dysphoriaâ debate rabbit hole and I spent a substantial amount of time listening to people (both trans and cis to my surprise) commenting on how you can or cannot be transgender without dysphoria. I am not here to judge those opinions and I am not interested in doing so either, or add mine to the party, because it is irrelevant (as it doesnât change anything in the grant scheme of things).Â
However, I would like to point at something that I noticed during this small investigation. When I started looking into the subject, at first I came across the opinions of the people who I already follow (mostly transmasculine people, as I am a transguy myself). Their opinions were not consistent, there were opinions of both sides of the debate and some in-between. This is not what I found interesting though.Â
What was really interesting to me was that each and everyone of the videos that I watched and the opinion pieces that Iâve read (as I did search for more content through the day) were actually saying, in one way or another that they do not identify with the lack of dysphoria situation, as they themselves experienced dysphoria as part of being trans; and the only difference between them, was that the ones who believed that you can be trans without dysphoria, clarified that they respect that âsomeâ individuals may identify with that, and that âsomeâ people may experience being transgender without dysphoria.Â
After watching a bunch of videos like that, repeating the same âsome people mightâ and âwe donât want to erase people who mightâ, I tried to actually find those people. Find people on the internet who actually say they are transgender and havenât experienced any type of dysphoria, ever. Needless to say, I couldnât. I donât know if itâs because these people feel attacked or at risk so they are not visible, or if these potential people donât exist, but itâs really interesting to me how we are basing a relatively big community debate, around opinions that have nothing to do with the people that might actually experience this, if there are any.Â
People share their opinions about how you can or canât be trans if you donât experience dysphoria, but I donât see any people claiming no dysphoria and being trans, actively participating in the debate.Â
Which makes me think, that the whole thing is obsolete and pointless in the first place.Â

Why is separating the artist from the art a bad thing?
Because the artist injects their personality and their beliefs and their biases into their art. Take Woody Allen as an example, heâs a bastard who married his own step daughter and is infamous for his paedophilic abuse of his children. Now take in one of his most renowned work, Annie Hall, look at the plot of Annie Hall look at Annieâs almost childlike personality, tell me itâs not him bleeding into it. Truth be told there is no way to separate the art from the artist, bastards may end up creating good art as well just like a broken clock is right two times a day, but that is not enough basis for us to support these sex freaks and abusers because NOTHING, absolutely NOTHING they make can change or reduce the trauma theyâve caused to another person.Human life and the respect for the humanity of people will always supersede any art ever.
