joining the war on kids reading any book they want on the side of kids reading any book they want. simply you will be fine. it's even good to be confronted with things you don't understand and even find upsetting, uncomfortable and difficult. it's a surprise tool that will help you later.
#literally this like teach your kids how to recognise discomfort and when they need to sit with it vs when they should step away#its a much better skill to have than ‘dont consume any media that could upset you or teach you something you mentally aren’t ready for yet’#my parents taught me how to sit with being uncomfortable and i made conciois choices to not read certain books bc of this feeling#like at 10 i was a huuuge scifi fantasy girly (still am) but I knew i had no interest in reading about sex for a variety of reasons so i got#books in those genres that had no sex. they were still adult books! they dealth with concepts and themes way above my ability to fully#comprehend HOWEVER they also introduced these concepts to me at an age where I was wanting to learn whatever I could#as i got older i 100% added in the books with sex bc as i matured i didnt mind that anymore like!!! trust your kids!! teach them to trust#themselves!!!! that will serve them so much better in their lives and tbh! blocking what your child can read just removes you as a safe#space to discuss it when they DO read something that makes them uncomfortable#i would much rather my child read something they aren’t ready for and KNOW they can talk to me to process through it than have them read#something they aren’t ready for and either just sit with it or turn to their peers for help like Yikesᵗᵐ#bc here’s the thing. your kids are going to read shit that makes them uncomfortable. whether you ok it or not. they will find a way. the#taboo is too tantalizing for them to not. its so much better for them to know they can safely turn to you when this happens#if you want to protect your kids you have to give them room to jump and room to breath

"The normalization, the acceptance, the embrace, the belief that a settler-colonial project can be reformed, can be saved, that it's somehow not rotted to the core, needs to be combated. When you normalize the right of one settler-colonial project to exist, you're letting colonized people know that your solidarity is conditional... Any excuse you give for normalization of a settler colonial project is fundamentally a betrayal to colonized people all around the world, especially when you yourself are a settler... Let me make this plain: If you accept 1776, how are we to believe that you reject 1948?"

the weed dispensaries should ask if you would like to round up your purchase to donate to PBS. and if you say yes you get to scan a QR code that gives you 30-day free access to the full run of antiques roadshow. this is how drugs can win the war on drugs again.

every major structural social problem right now is basically "we don't have enough skilled workers on the ground" and the reason is always "well we've been intentionally underpaying and understaffng them for decades to increase corporate profits" and somehow the news always just mentions the "shortage" without digging into the cause
air travel is a mess? shortage of air traffic controllers - for some mysterious reason
logistics a mess? shortage of truck drivers - for some mysterious reason
public transit can't meet demand? shortage of bus drivers - for some mysterious reason
We even mysteriously have shortages of doctors, nurses, teachers... FOR SOME MYSTERIOUS REASON
FUCKING PAY PEOPLE AND HIRE ENOUGH STAFF

may be a hot take but i think the fact minors can access 18+ content by just clicking a button that says 'yes im totally over 18 trust me' is like. totally fine tbh. its a non-issue. i dont care if curious teenagers are looking at porn. they've been doing that for as long as porn has existed. id rather teens explore their sexuality through images on the internet than rush into real life experiences when they're not ready for it yknow. the UK is trying to put stricter age verification in place (which in turn is becoming an online privacy nightmare) and like. for what. who is it helping. why is this a problem.
