it’s a night much like any other, the club is crowded and erin is practically choking on the stench of stale cigarette smoke, sweat, and alcohol. it isn’t the life she envisioned for herself, to say the least, when she packed up her things and told her mother she’d be following in her footsteps, soon. but show business is hard to break into, even with a famous last name, and rejection after rejection left erin feeling hopeless, and desperate for money. it was another wannabe actress, ‘cherry’, who told erin about the money she could make as a dancer. at first, she’d been offended by the offer. but when her friend explained that it was just dancing, no touching required, she’d given the job some serious thought.
two years later, and she wishes she never had.
the money is easy enough, especially with men so drunk they practically toss their wallets in her direction by the end of every night. but it’s been months since erin has been to a real audition, and she’s beginning to wonder if she’ll be dancing at a strip club to make ends meet when she’s 50, too. not to mention, the men she has to dance for make her skin crawl. she can’t stand the dirty, sweaty hands that grab at her, no matter how often she says not to, demanding she slow down, speed up, turn in their direction. she spends every night scrubbing her body clean in the shower, feeling as if she’ll never truly be rid of the fingerprints left on her skin.
it’s for that reason that she’s more than glad they’re short a waitress for the night, meaning she’ll have to take over her duties. it hardly gets her farther away from any of the creeps, but it means she gets to keep most of her clothes on, at least. she’s just finished clocking in when one of the other servers informs her that there’s already a table of young men waiting for her, making her groan, her stomach twisting in nervous anticipation as she checks her reflection in the mirror, righting her sparkly black bra before heading over. / @serrpentine

“But why? There’s no point in being treated equal to them. They think they’re above everyone else, which is dumb.” And something that took a long time for her to realize, that they aren’t exactly the good guys. Now she knows, her mother spent all of those years judging people just like Axl, for no real reason. “You think so?” She asks quietly, trying to envision a word in which her mother and Axl get along perfectly. It definitely seems too good to be true, but the image alone is enough to warm her heart, wondering if and how she could make it a reality. It kills her that the other so clearly wants her approval, but can’t get it simply because of who he is, and what’s been said about him. “That’s not true.” Erin huffs, not liking the fact that he seems to be joking about the matter. She shakes her head, then, trying to ignore the way her face is burning as she rolls her eyes at him. “Says you.” She scoffs, grinning as the other grabs the clothing and throws it into the cart. She picks up on of the shirts, inspecting it with a grin on her face before diverting her attention to the rest of the clothing for kids and babies. “Look at that one!” She excitedly explains, pointing to a onesie that’s yellow and red, and meant to make the baby look like it’s dress in winnie the pooh’s red shirt. “That would be so *cute*!”
“Sure, if you want to.” She says with a laugh, reaching out to poke one of the spikes on one of the spiked balls. “Yeah, balance. Like us, kind of.” It’s actually hilarious how much like their owners their dogs are, and how much their own relationship mirrors the relationship between Erin and Axl. “Well I don’t know! You wear things to places I never thought you’d have worn them to.” In public, she means. But she’s glad to hear he plans to wear something normal. She huffs as she flops back down in the cart, crossing her arms against her chest to mirror the behavior of a toddler who was told no. His laughing makes her tilt her head, her expression confused until they roll into the section for young girls. Her eyes go wide, her expression excited as she looks around at everything there is to choose from. “Oh my gosh. I want to live here!”

“What’s so great about fitting in? You’re just one of... tons of other people like you. I like you because you’re different, and so do thousands of other people. It would just be amazing if I could get everyone I love to get along.” She sighs, though she knows it isn’t his fault in the least. If her mother had been kind, she knows Axl would have charmed her into loving him. The thought almost brings a smile to her face, though her heart aches for what might have been. She gives his arm a squeeze, her brow lifting as she scoffs. “You wish.” She grumbles, waving him off with a laugh. Her cheeks color a light shade of pink as he mentions how cute she is, caught between her pride and the usual embarrassment she feels when she’s complimented by him. “Oh. Well, thank you.” After so many years, all of his kind words still bring her butterflies. She giggles as he points out the shirts, reaching for one to further inspect the design. Erin nods her head furiously, already amused by the image of the shirt against his chest. “Yes! You should try one on!”
“Sure, if you want to.” She says with a laugh, reaching out to poke one of the spikes on one of the spiked balls. “Yeah, balance. “Then they’d probably like you, I think. I’m not sure about the whole money thing, because they’re shallow, but they wouldn’t have been so... rude, outright at least.” She explains, her voice soft as she brushes her fingers over his wrist while he pushes the cart, wanting him to know that she doesn’t agree with their judgements. “It’s a maybe.” Erin huffs, turning her face away so he can’t see exactly how embarrassed she is by his proposal. Still, she lets out a giggle, her shoulder lifting as she stares at the doll in fascination. “Don’t think that would be much fun. Plus, it’s technically a girl.” She laughs, scrunching her nose as she pokes her tongue out at him playfully. She wiggles with box from side to side happily, practically beaming as the other calls her cute and leans in for a kiss. Her lips meet his eagerly, her eyes wide and sparkling as she pulls away with a grin. “Well, what if I weren’t cute? Would I get... punished?”
“Sure, if you want to.” She says with a laugh, reaching out to poke one of the spikes on one of the spiked balls. “Yeah, balance. “Yeah, i’ll agree to that. Those people don’t know how to treat people who aren’t like them. If we’re being honest, they probably wouldn’t have liked you no matter what you wore or did or said. They’d know your name and take one look at you and figure you’re faking.” She shrugs, thinking in-depth about the situation for the first time in years. She hates that her mother’s friends are that way, but at this point, she’s used to them. She forgets that people like Axl didn’t grow up around that, and feels bad that he was judged so harshly for no good reason. “No.” She huffs, her cheeks flushing all over again. Still, the prospect of getting close to Axl again is appealing. She smiles down at her lap before clearing her throat, returning her attention to the doll. “Nothing! Like i said.” She grins, taking the doll with a squeal and holding the box to her chest. Of course, she has to hold it up a second later, comparing the red headed doll to her boyfriend. “Twins!”
“Sure, if you want to.” She says with a laugh, reaching out to poke one of the spikes on one of the spiked balls. “Yeah, balance. “Not really, some of them were nice. And they didn’t know you, so how were they supposed to react?” She questions, her tone more curious than accusatory. As much fun as Axl might think that day was, she’s still embarrassed by how everything happened. Erin pauses, waiting for him to remember how they spent the evening together before she huffs out a laugh, amusement written all over her face. “It was alright.” Erin playfully returns, grinning at him the moment after so he knows she’s only joking. Her lips curl into a frown at his accusation, making grabby hands at the doll she wants him to grab. “I won’t! I’ll only bring it out when you’re gone! And I wont do anything weird with it. ...Probably.”

“I do nooot.” Playfully scoffing, totally denying it. He knows he has. “Okay, maybe like, one time.” Another scoff, he can admit that much. “No pouting or we’ll go home.” Speaking to her like a real child just for the fun of it. “I had a feeling you’d say that.” Amusingly smiling, rolling them to the barbies first and sighing once he stops because he has no idea what to choose here. “There’s so many. Why?”

“Yeah, but still. There were other people there.” At the time, it was humiliating. But now she can laugh about it, and remembers how upset Axl was when he didn’t feel accepted “Just... remebering the rest of that day.” She honestly replies, sparing him a glance before completely averting her gaze in embarrassment. Erin wiggles excitedly as he grabs the toys she tells him to, reaching for the boxes so she can inspect the toys. She giggles as the other refuses, pouting and crossing her arms playfully. “But I can snuggle and kiss it when you’re on tour. It’ll watch TV with me and everything.”

“Do too. You wore a shirt with the F word on it to my mother’s party once.” She reminds, thinking back on that particular day with a rather fond and amused look. Of course, that was also the day they first had sex, and that memory alone causes her to flush a bright shade of red. “More than that.” Erin sighs, shaking her head in amusement. She giggles as she glances over her shoulder at him, before turning back around to marvel at everything in awe. Shes practically bouncing up and down on her knees when they approach the barbies, her eyes widening as she looks each of them over. “What do you mean? It’s amazing! We should get that one! And that one!” She points to a barbie doll with glamorous, old hollywood curls, and the to another, with teased hair and a bikini on. “And that one! It kind of looks like you.” She teases, pointing to a pretty doll with red hair and a leather jacket on.

“I think it’s just the vibe. They seem like they fit you somehow.” Not just him, but his entire band and their image in general. At least, their image from a couple of years ago. She thinks Axl is trying to take them in a new direction, but isn’t exactly sure what the aesthetic of their new music might be. “You know, Appetite for Destruction. Those things look like they destroy.” She adds, nodding her head toward the spiked ball he’d showed her earlier. Erin nods excitedly at the mention of Torque and his size, already laughing at the image of him chasing a ball larger than him around their condo. “Poor Geneva though, she’ll probably be terrified of the things.” She muses, thinking of the small dog and how she nearly has a heart attack anytime she’s introduced to something new or out of the ordinary. “Yeah, that sounds good. I just wanted to make you sure you weren’t gonna wear anything… inappropriate.” Like a shirt with a naked woman on it, or anything of the sort. She knows he’s better than that, but wants to make sure. Her jaw drops when he steals the ball from her, her lips curling into a pout as she tries and fails to steal it away before he makes his shot.
“Oh okay, I see. So I should make these as my next album cover then, huh?” Axl amusingly smiles as he jokes. “Yeaaah, she’s the introvert. Meanwhile Torque is the extrovert.” Which makes Axl laugh at how they have their own little personalities like that. “I’m not gonna wear anything inappropriate.” Playfully rolling his eyes, she’s too funny. But also kind of smart for that. “No pouting. We’ll be in here all day if we continue to play in the balls.” Axl doesn’t realize how hilarious that sounds until he thinks on that last bit of his sentence and begins cracking himself up as he grabs a pile of race cars, throwing then in on his way by before he turns down the aisle with dolls. The little girl’s section for sure because everything has took a change in color. Pink. It’s everywhere.

Erin giggles when he pokes her shoulder, waving him off without actually touching him. “I didn’t think we would.” As much as she wanted to fix things, she thought it was probably the end. It was about time, wasn’t it? Something was always going to tear them apart. But if they can come back from this, they can come back from anything, she thinks. “Seems kind of dangerous. I know they aren’t sharp, but it wouldn’t be fun to get that to the face.” She’s still smiling, despite her concern, amused by his description of the ball. “Toss me one.”
“I love being your person.” Axl cheerfully returns, poking her cheek this time. “Don’t we always?” Because they get mad, sad and then the last phase: hopeless. But they’re defeating the world and always finding each other again despite it. “Come on, mother Erin. It’ll be okay, I promise.” The redhead teases, grinning at her. He likes that she’s so concerned in a motherly way. Like these kids are hers. “Are you sure? You might get hurt.” Grinning before he turns to grab a blue one, shifting back around and gently tossing it her way.

“I’m sure that’s the kind of bouncy ball they’d expect you to bring in, though.” She says with a laugh, imagining Axl showing up to meet the kids with a leather jacket on and a spiked ball in hand. She’s sure some of the older kids would love that. “All of them MINUS the spiked ones. Torque would have a... ball with these.” Erin grins, way too pleased with herself and her pun. But her thought from before comes back to her, and she bounces the ball again before asking “what are you gonna wear? When we meet the kids.”

“I’m so lucky.” She grins, tilting her head as he pokes her check. His question makes her smile, her lips slowly spreading across her face until she’s nodding. He’s right, and it’s comforting to think about. No matter what, they always seem to figure things out. “I guess you’re right.” She concedes, feeling oddly warm, her chest full of affection as she stares up at him. His name for her makes her giggle, her cheeks and nose scrunching as she shrugs. “Just don’t want any babies getting hurt.” And it’s natural for her to worry, it’s the ting she’s best at, after all. She scoffs and rolls her eyes as the other teases her, holding her hands out for the ball he sends her way. She just barely catches it, laughing as she throws it on the ground and catches it again. “We should get all of these.”

Of course Erin had to flush, and she hates the heat she can feel crawling up her skin, ducking her head as she hides a grin. “Thank you.” She murmurs, not sure what she should say in return. She never does not how to take compliments. “Of course. It was hard not to. I’ve spent so many days with you…” It doesn’t matter that they’ve spent time apart when he’s on tour. She’s used to being with him so much of the time, used to starting and ending her day with him and so it’s impossible not to let him slip into her thoughts. It seems like he can guess what she’s thinking then, because she had to nod with each instance, relating to the feeling his describing. “I know what you mean. It’s hard to get away from. And I kept thinking about how I could make it better… how I could have fixed things when I had a chance. I did a lot of that.”
”You’re welcome.” Canting his head, leaning in to kiss her shy little face on the jaw. “I’m glad I was missed.” Chuckling, although he knows he was. “Mhm. Someone you love going away hurts worse than any physical pain.” That’s always left him mind blown, but he’s certainly had his fair share of feeling it. “But it’s the BEST getting them back. And you did, we are. We’re fixin’ it.” Smiling happily, poking her shoulder. “Hey. Which ball do you like best?” Holding up one that’s spiky and one that’s solid.

“Of course you were. You’re my person.” The statement is matter of fact, because nothing else could be more true. She’s said it before and she’ll say it again, she was meant to go through life with him by her side. “Yeah. I would have rather someone broke my leg or my arm or everything on me, I guess.” It was worse than the worst of what Axl has put her through, worse than all the times she fell off her bike and worse than any period pain she’s ever had. “That’s true. Not everyone gets second chances, so we’re lucky.” She agrees, her grin wide and sincere as she bobs her head. Her fingers curl over the edge of the cart, her brow lifting as the other tries to make her choose between the two toys. “The spiked one doesn’t look very fun. What the heck does that do?”
