One of my 2024 goals is to get through my comic backlog
I know I’ll love Saga, Paper Girls, and Monstress. My brain is just ~silly~ and forgets about comics 99% of the time

Writer’s culture is agonizing for weeks over how to describe the most mundane detail and then coming up with the best sentence you’ve ever written while brushing your teeth

Sometimes I do silly little challenges and put them on the internet.
Starting every Wednesday, I’m going to be using a random plot generator to give me a prompt and I have 5 minutes to write.
I’m going to call it Wednesday Writing Challenge. (Very creative, right?)
Anyways.
This was the prompt I had this week:
Main character: A man in his early thirties, who can be quite overbearing.
Setting: The story begins in an abandoned warehouse.
Situation: Someone is accused of theft.
Theme: hatred.
Character action: Your character sets out to change everyone's opinion.
After five minutes of writing, this is what I came up with:
The last place Kyle wanted to be tonight was following the obnoxious petty thief with a bob of black hair, striding confidently through the adboned warehouse as if she didn’t just steal the richest man in Cityville’s cell phone. This is, by far, the worst first date he had ever been on.
“Will you slow down and tell me what the hell we’re doing?” he asked, exasperated.
Ray laughed, flashing her bright smile over her shoulder as they approached the door. “Adding some excitement to your life. Weren’t you just saying at dinner that you wished you had better stories to share?”
“Theft is not a better story,” he snapped, holding the door open for her as they entered a cramped stairwell. “You know they’re tracking that phone.”
Her large brown eyes were filled with mischief and she placed a hand on his chest. “That’s the point.” She winked and took off up the stairs.
Kyle stammered. “What do you mean, ‘that’s the point?’ Ray, are you even listening?” He swore as her footsteps echoed on the stairs above him.
Kyle took one last look at the door, deciding if she would be worth following or if he should leave before she led him to greater trouble.

I want to see what you come up with Yao g this prompt! Reblog with your 5 minute writing challenge!

This advertisement is for The Archive Undying—a debut science fantasy epic from Emma Mieko Candon, and book one in their Downworld Sequence, featuring commissioned fanart of Sunai, the book's main character. The artist is Caitlin Ono.
WHAT IT’S ABOUT
Plugged into his AI god when its corruption renders him unfortunately immortal, sad gay disaster Sunai takes a die-again-or-die-trying approach to his tragically unending life. Despotic police states want to leash him and giant robots want to eat him, but reuniting with the small handful of people he cares about is what’s actually horrifying.
Adrift in the wilds, Sunai makes several unwise decisions such as:
Scavenging old ruins haunted by hostile fragments of another shattered technological deity
Allowing his mind to become further compromised
Sleeping with his mysterious employer for information and fun
Joining a haphazard crew of pirates who all have different motives for hunting a feral remnant of the same god that cursed him, all those years ago
This brain-melting series-starter is like a Neon Genesis Evangelion AMV set to a bass-boosted cover of George Michael’s "Careless Whisper."

I do! (but it’s a shameless self plug)
In A Queen’s Game, the FMC is abducted by an elven lord (her former lover) and she decides to ruin his life in retribution for kidnapping her (on top of, you know, helping destroy the royal court that attacked her home).
The elven lord is a definitely a dickhead and will make you want to tear your hair out, and the FMC definitely makes his life very miserable by the end.
(Oh, it also has court politics/political intrigue like The Cruel Prince but is an adult high fantasy book)
Anyone knows a high fantasy book centered on righteous revenge? Feeling like reading about dickheads getting their comeuppance

I'm looking at a poll that currently says people mostly read physical books (60%) followed by handheld devices, then e-readers, then audiobooks. Since I think this would be really useful data for independent writers to have...

me: I will accept the fact that this book is totally normal fiction and does not have any supernatural elements and I will not allow the fact that it would be way cooler if there was magic to affect my opinion --
the book: starts introducing magic elements

Tumblr is known and also spoken of by its user base for its high proportion of lgbt+ users, but I'm curious as to if the lgbt+ user base is actually as large as though or if its just confirmation bias, so...
For fun if you want put how you identify in the tags and the part of tumblr you'd say you're here for
