Y'all I'm rambling about Sunday, sorry in advance. First of all, there are many future rambles I will probably make about him because he's a very complex character and I love him but today were just gonna start with little things I've noticed about his design, asides from the obvious (his wings being clipped etc.) So I wanna start off with the piercings in his little head wings, many people have interpreted them differently, but I'm gonna be sticking to the Catholic/religious themes. How I interpreted them is that they don't look like the usually piercings, to me they look like either thorns or nails. For this interpretation I'm going to say that they're nails because in the Bible nails were used to hold people against the cross, I think this is symbolic of how Sunday is being held back and burdened by his own faith, actions, and father. This also continues to further the idea that Sunday is trapped, a bird within a cage, a man on a cross, trapped all the same. Also it would make sense if they added nails into his character design because Sunday has a lot of Jesus imagery, which I might explain more in depth in another post (he is not based off of Jesus, they've just drawn inspiration from him because he's a huge biblical figure, again Sunday is not based off of Jesus and I'm not saying that, it'd be weird if they based their main villain off of JESUS, Jesus is a chill guy and not insane like Sunday) anyways that's one of my points about his design, my next one is the halo, which also has a lot of biblical connotations (obviously cus it's a damn halo) I'd like to start off by pointing out the differences between Sunday and Robin's halos. Sunday's halo is very jagged and spiked, it's very rigid and sharp. Robins is round and smooth and even has little flowers coming out of it. This brings me to my next point, back at it again with Jesus imagery, Sunday's halo is quite literally a crown of thorns. I'll include the definition of the modern term crown of thorns, because I think it applies very heavily to Sunday.

This term is fitting for his character because he carried the burden of the order his whole life and his sister had no idea at all, he has to carry it alone. The point I want to make here is that thorns are something that gets forced into your head, this refers to the fact that Sunday has had his beliefs forced into his head by the dream master from a very young age, which is why robins halo does not have any spikes because nothing was ever forced into her head because she wasn't manipulated like Sunday was. I also think his halo resembles a crown of thorns in general just with how it looks, his halo doesn't hover above his head like Robin's, it floats behind it, the spikes on the inner circle point towards his head instead of away from, if it were to be place on his head like a crown, said spikes would dig into his head. If Robin's halo were to be placed on her head like a crown, nothing would happen to her, she'd be fine, because she's not the one who bears the crown of thorns.
