Tattoos have been gracing the bodies of humans for over five thousand of years. For almost as long people have tried to remove them. With advancement in laser technology it easier than ever before to remove tattoos.
While the results vary from person to person and no laser removal is 100% guaranteed, the latest advancements have created processes in reducing pain and damage to the skin. Our clients at ERASE  have reported great stories after treatment with the Asclepion TattooStar Effect Laser featured in the photo above. This amazing laser has advanced technology that allows us to remove tattoo's more efficiently and more effectively for our clients. Tattoo history is extensive and have been found in many cultures around the world going as far back as 300 BC. Some of evidence includes a discovery in Eurasian near the Alps on "Otzi the Iceman". Other ethnic groups including those of German and Celtic origins had tattoos as far as 2nd millennium BC. Tattoo removal has always been something people around the world have attempted to do but not until now have they been truly successful at doing so. In the past people tried often-extreme processes to remove unwanted tattoos. This included dermabrasion, TCA, which removes the top layer of skin through the use of chemical acid, and lastly Sal abrasion, which is the process of removing the top layer of skin with salt. All of these past tattoo removal processes were extremely painful and did not create enough results for many people to continue. Often people who had tattoo regret or bad tattoos were forced to live with them for the rest of their lives. With this came home remedies and creams that some still try to use to this day. The most popular of those included a mixture of garlic, lime and wine and some even attempted to remove tattoos with pigeon excrement. Again, these did not truly remove the tattoo. Home remedies, cremes and balms can not go deep enough into the skin to break up the ink particles of the tattoo and often misrepresent results. There are now many products which claim to remove tattoos but unfortunately there is only one medical lotion that is FDA approved. This cream needs to be prescribed by a doctor and is not often recommend. In the 90's the Q-switched laser began introducing people to professional laser tattoo removal. From then on the technology only kept advancing and improving results of laser treatments. The treatment amounts and length of sessions continues to get shorter. This allows people to experience less pain and get faster results. While technology has advanced it is important to mention a major reason in success of tattoo removal is not only based on the laser but also the person. Good overall health and immune system is critical in successful tattoo removal.

First things first.Blisters are normal and expected after laser tattoo removal. The blisters are a part of the healing process and clients should allow their blisters to heal on their own. It is not advised to pick at the scabs and or blisters. This can cause infection as well as irritation to the skin. The best thing to do is to have treated area covered and to apply ointment 3 times each day.
Things to avoid include excessive time in water, sun and other skin irritants such as lotions, creams and balms. Oils in creams can cause the area to react in negative ways so only use ointment given to you by the doctor at the tattoo removal studio you choose.
When taking showers, keep the area as dry as possible and limit shower length. It is best to avoid baths, pools, hot tubs and any other activity that would include getting the treated are moist for an extensive amount of time. After exposing the area to water, pat dry slowly and avoid rubbing, this can cause the blisters to pop or peel and result in scaring.
Some people experience pain in the treated area. For this we suggest a cool compress and Tylenol. Antibacterial cream is not needed unless prescribed to treat infection by a doctor after the treatment.
If for any reason the area begins to bleed or show signs of extensive irritation it is important to seek medical help. These could be signs of infection or reactions that will not be helped by ointment. Always seek professional medical help in any cases where there is bleeding, or extreme pain .
Staying healthy is vital to the healing process both before, after and during tattoo removal. Avoiding smoke and other substances that can lower your immune system. To protect the skin from sun it is also recommended that people use sunscreen that is at least SPF 25 or higher as the area will be extremely sensitive. Staying hydrated is helping your skin heal & is vital to the success of laser tattoo removal.
Overall people that have recently had laser tattoo removal treatment or are going to be treated should work on increasing the strength of their immune system and be proactive about staying healthy during the lengthy process.

Staying hydrated is an important element to recovery after laser tattoo removal.  The skin needs extra nutrients, and support while it works to remove ink that the laser treatment breaks up. During the summer time it is especially important as the heat increases, the amount of water in our body decreases.
