So I was watching a video on ptarmigans and it was mentioned that they dig burrows in the snow for shelter and protection. Which, cool! Burrowing bird! Then they showed this picture and
It's perfect

i listen to that one podcast ICYMI to keep up with the rest of the internet and man i know it's wild out there but the latest episode about the twitter menswear guy who frankly sounds like a normal person with a passionate interest and how this is controversial, somehow, unironically described online crimes such as "doesn't show his face online" and "didn't want to disclose what his job was in the past" as "pretentious" and "hateable." the other day people on reddit got vein poppingly angry at someone in a nyc apartment thread who was celebrating getting a very well priced, rent controlled apartment because they didn't want to disclose their hyperlocal neighborhood so people could judge if their rent was a good deal or not and whether they should be celebrating at all. when i was a kid in the early 00s i told a stranger on MSN that my dad was a veterinarian and i immediately got so scared i gave away this identifiable information that i unplugged the whole computer straight from the wall

Has anything actually gotten better, for all the work you talk about doing? Or is it just treading water in misery forever?
Anon, ten years ago gay people couldn't get married in large parts of the US. AIDS was an almost certain death sentence when I was in high school. I was looking at job boards the other day and found a part time gas station job that had health insurance as a benefit, which NEVER would have happened 15 years ago. When I was a kid, hitting your child was extremely normalized in the US and my parents were the weird ones for not doing it. There is a vaccine for chicken pox. I didn't meet anyone who had transitioned until my 20s because it was so uncommon to transition in the aughts, and now there are some states that protect your right to have gender affirming care provided by your health insurance. It's not all states, but it's better than the number of states that had it in 2010, which was zero. THERE ARE TENANTS UNIONS NOW. WE HAVE A VACCINE AGAINST CERVICAL CANCER.
And all of that has been the work of a lot of individuals and organizations and research teams and activists.

Hey, the ACLU is getting people to send letters to your Reps to have Congress pass the No Kings Act.
This act would make constitutional amendments to ensure that even sitting presidents are held liable for their actions. That NOBODY is above the law.
Their goal is 150k messages sent and at the time of writing this they're about 2.1k off from that goal!
ACLU gives you a prefilled message that you can edit to send to make the process easier, and will send it out for you.
This only takes a few minutes!
