Experimenting with light painting

When I was little, probably 7 or 8, I spent a summer working in the library at our church helping out the elderly woman who ran it. It was no bigger than a large broom closet but we had a notable amount of religious books for all age ranges as well as an extensive collection of cassette recordings of every Sunday sermon going back a decade or two. I'd sit in there all day helping her catalog the index cards and keep record of who had borrowed what. We wrote on index cards all day long and listened to the recorded sermons, which included the choir's worship service at the beginning. "Nearer, My God, To Thee" was always my favorite hymn by a long shot. I wanted to emulate listening to it on the tiny tape player in that little library for Perverts. It's a fond memory of mine, just wanted to share :)

if it’s ok to ask, what plugins did you use to make all the ambient drone sounds ? im heavily inspired by perverts to create some ambient now

paulstretch is a staple food for drone/ambient artists, i'd say. i've been paulstretching songs since i was 15 using it on audacity to make my own ambient mixes of electronic songs i liked lol. delay and reverb is good but it really just depends on the weight and texture of the audio you want to drone. it also depends on whether you want it to be melodic or not. i love to use heavy chorus/phasers/tremolo/auto-pan to really create a lot of density and movement in the stereo field. you really just have to identify a sound you like, whether it's a single chord in a song that really grips you or the rumble of a highway, and decide how best to stretch it out over 20 minutes. you can turn anything into drone, which is the beauty of the genre for me.

Did the work of the architect etienne louis boullée inspire the 7th track Etienne? If it did what about his work inspired you? To me the song reminds me of the longing and emotion in his funeral monuments.

that's the only etienne i know! i like to imagine him as the first person, at least in recorded history, that even tried to conceptualize the temple of simulacrum's architecture. he was a visionary in that way to me. i imagine he must have felt so lonely, like noah building the ark. that song was my ode to him.

is the repeated “masturbator” in perverts supposed to sound like it’s mocking or condemning the masturbator?

there's no condemnation or mockery or bias on perverts anywhere. i like objective portrayals. that way you can decide how you feel about it. do you feel shame in your pleasure or do you revel in it. do you know the line between right and wrong and do you know what side of it you're on? etc.

they won't tell you this in therapy but sometimes the best way to stop catastrophizing/anxiety is to interrupt your spiraling with "girl what the hell are you talking about"
