brooding men who cannot communicate their feelings if their life depended on it are only hot when they're fictional. if i have to deal with one in real life i will curse him and pray for his downfall every night before i go to bed

the question of fic comments is very straightforward actually. readers do not owe writers comments. writers do not owe readers fic. there is no bargain, no transaction, no debt.
fic is a gift. comments are a gift. gifts are exchanged between friends, out of love, not out of obligation.
I write for myself. I post it for others, as a gift, because their joy brings me joy. I read for myself. I comment for the author, as a gift, because their joy brings me joy. perhaps we were not friends before, but we are now, however fleetingly, because we have given each other gifts out of love.

Okay so I just read this wikipedia article and maybe my education was just really bad and this is common knowledge, but I still feel mind-blown.
So I remember my understanding of sex organs back in school being like "The vagina is basically a reverse penis. These two things are opposites that fit together. And women also have a clitoris, like as a bonus or something."
But apparently, when you look at anatomical development, it's way more like: "The clitoris and the penis develope from the same structures. They are basically the same thing in a different shape."
And that is so interesting and makes sooo much sense!? I can't believe I did not know that.

My dad asked me about fanfiction
So I visited my parents over Christmas and this conversation happened.
Dad: What are you doing on your laptop?
Me: Just writing something for fun.
Dad: What are you writing?
Me: Do you remember Stargate Atlantis? Me and some other people on the internet write little stories about the characters and then we share them with each other and it's great.
Dad: You write new episodes for Stargate Atlantis?
Me: Yes, kind of.
- next day -
Dad: So where did you say can I read your stories?
Me: Uhm... You can't read them. The website is called ao3, but I am not telling you my username or what I am writing.
Mom: That's good. You have a right to your privacy! Your dad is way to curious.
Dad: (Writes down -AO3- on a piece of paper)
Me: Uhm... and go there at your own risk.
Dad: Hm?
Me: It's mostly 'gay porn' (in english).
Dad: What's that?
Me (in german): Well pornographic storys about gay men.
Dad: Oh.
Mom (laughing): See (my dads name), that's your favorite thing, isn't it.
- My parents talk about something else for 10 minutes -
Dad: Wait, so you are writing porn with gay men about Stargate Atlantis on the internet??
Me: I didn't say that. Maybe I do, maybe I don't. Who knows.
Dad: (really laughing about it) Okay.

How Rodney perceives John in Sanctuary:
That's like asking the fox to guard the hen house
It's a whole Captain Kirk routine
He's romancing the alien priestess
What John is actually doing in Sanctuary:

So I was curious about the chess game between Rodney and John in s3, ep15 "the game".
I wanted to know what actually happened there. It looks like the starting position of the scene is this:
I came up with the following game, which ends in this position, has a decent opening and moves that look normal to me.
e4 e6 2. d4 c5 3. Nf3 cxd4 4. Nxd4 Nc6 5. Be3 Nxd4 6. Bxd4 d6 7. Bd3 Bd7 8. Nc3 Nf6 9. O-O Be7 10. Qf3 a6 11. Rfb1 O-O 12. Qe3 h6 13. Qg3 Bc6
For this game, the evaluation is always between -0.2 and +0.6 which means it is mostly equal, with no one making any mistakes. The evaluation after Rodney's move is +0.3, meaning a tiny advantage for John (who is white and therefore started with a small advantage).
Then we see Sheppard think a while before playing (14. Rf1). This is not a great move but also no mistake, it puts the evaluation at (0.0, meaning completely equal for both).
To this, Rodney says "Like I would need to cheat, playing you. Ha!" and then plays (Nh7), which totally hangs mate in one and is therefore the worst possible move, instantly losing the game from an even position.
I love how confidently he makes this awful move, while laughing at John.
However, John sees the blunder instantly and wins with (Qxg7#). Checkmate.
To this, Rodney answers by complaining about being distracted, and I guess after this evaluation, it is fair to assume that he was actually very distracted, either by Elizabeth or by John accusing him of cheating because he made a ridiculous move after playing solidly for the first 13 moves.

So with this, I was originally going for the scene in S.3 Ep.5 Progeny, where John looks over Rodney's shoulder while he works.
I thought it would be even more fun if there would be like 2 additional alternate universe versions of John, ALSO curiously looking at what Rodney is doing. I think the Johns would get along great (like in the Daedalus Variation) and they would drive Rodney insane.
So I drew it... but I feel like it kind of gives a different vibe now.
More like... Those AU Johns are up to something with poor innocent Rodney...

Hello! I made this account a long time ago but I am actually new to Tumblr. I recently rewatched Stargate Atlantis. I first saw it in like 2010 when I was 14. Maybe I have had a mild obsession with John Sheppard ever since that I had just forgotten about for a while. Well, I loved rewatching it, I loved looking at all the fan art here, and I loved reading so much good stuff on ao3. I wanted to contribute something, so here are two things I drew recently.
