WIP Vault- “nightmares”

Even before the first attempt on her life, Auri starts suffering from nightmares after her expedition team starts going ‘missing’ one by one upon their return to the surface. The nightmares only get worse after her near capture in chansia city, and escalate after her and Felix meet the assassin, Fox, for the first time. After her initial breakdown in Grey’s bathroom (which you can see here), his glass bathtub ends up being a safe haven for her during her nightmare panic episodes.

It takes a few years after her encounter with Ever Corp for them to subside enough that she no longer wakes up in a sprint for the tub, but whenever she did, Grey was always close behind, curling around her to remind her that it was safe there in his arms, in their bathtub, with old man Archie resting above like a furry little sentinel.

“Clipped Wings”

Auri, and her mother, Cecelia. Both suffering the same fate at one point in time- becoming a bargaining chip for business marriages.

After her and Grey’s college crash and burn, Auri dedicated herself solely to her research, which her father took every advantage of (considering he’s the one who sent poor Greyson into his tailspin) to talk her into doing the family a “favor”.

It wasn’t the first time he’d proposed she consider David as a husband (“he’s a brilliant inventor and engineer with an incredibly unique evol, and is revolutionizing luxury transportation. One day you’ll have a home in the stars, Aurelia.”) in fact he’d started before she’d even met Grey, but Auri had always seen the strain her and her brother’s mere existence put on her mother, and she couldn’t fathom trading her very identity for something like… that.

So she refused. Vehemently. Until the day she turned 28, and her father explained in sharp words that the only reason a rich man has a son is so that he may inherit his empire, and he has a daughter, so that she may strengthen it. And it was getting to the point where she would soon be unable to do even that. So after years and years of wearing her down, Auri finally agreed, and for 3 long years she was engaged to David.

The hardest thing about birds though, is that when they’re used to being flighted, clipping their wings can actually kill them. The delicate bone over their chest breaks so easily when they fall. And when a bird is used to being able to fly, and suddenly finds itself plummeting to earth with no way to catch itself, the situation can become very dire very quickly.

And so you put it in a tiny cage.

It’s for safety, right?

Ahh yes, a tale as old as time: When an autistic anthropologist falls in love with a dork of a neurosurgeon 🥹 Truly a match made in heaven 💜

Auri could literally listen to Grey talk about the brain forever. It’s the way he’s so expressive with his hands when he gets excited, or how halfway through an explanation he’ll forget you have no idea what a Phox2b is and has to start over and re explain respiratory rhythmogenesis, laughing at himself as he does it. But most of all, it’s the way his eyes light up when he hits a topic that’s been chewing at him- something that’s really been on his mind. It’s that spark that really hits Auri in the ol’ Heart eyes 😍

After Auri (and her bodyguard, Felix) gets attacked by the assassin hired by Ever Corp to suppress her research, Grey finally realizes he’s going to lose everything (including her, literally) if he doesn’t say something nOW. So in an act of desperation, he apologizes for everything- the way he ended their relationship 10 years ago in college, the way he’s been fighting falling back into the familiar ways with her, and for making his confession seem like a haphazard word vomit born of a fear he might never get to tell her, instead of something that was rationally thought out like he’d been wanting to, but feeling wholly undeserving of.

For her part, Auri had been patiently waiting for him to break under the weight of his own want, so her acceptance was swift, but oh so soft, and poor Grey had to beg her to tell him to stop, lest their first time together in 10 years be on his desk at the hospital instead of somewhere more appropriate- somewhere she deserved, like the privacy of his place.

Ockissweek really was out there with prompts like “desperate”, how on earth was I supposed to not do a 🌶️ piece for it?

Honestly it’s been a looong while since I’ve worked on 🌶️ art so this was just genuinely fun to stretch my ‘wings’ on. I kind of wish I’d had more than a day to spend on it but oh well 😅 that’s the fun part of these challenges!

Sketches from the WIP Vault- Auri and Grey in their college years with their group of regulars, sometime around the end of sophomore year. Nothing says “fond college memories” to me quite like questionably legal activities in a dank basement on a 20 year old couch with all your friends 🥹

Grey and Auggie (the one with his feet on the table) loved to tag team tease p much everyone (good naturedly of course, our boy is and always was a soft hearted soul), but especially Justine (far right) bc she was so easy to rile, and her bf Christopher got roped into that by association often. Luke, Grey’s roommate usually just watched it all unfold in amusement, while Robyn used their interactions as fodder for her psych papers lol. Auri however was always stuck between a cringe and a laugh- when your boyfriend is circling your best friend like a Wile E. Coyote v Roadrunner cartoon, it’s always a tough go.

Sometimes, as a man, you just gotta have a little cry to yourself when the love of your life is finally safe in your arms after a near death experience, and also she returns your feelings, and also she forgave you years ago for the giant fuck up you did that ruined your previous relationship (that wasn’t really your fault but you’re a sensitive soul and blamed yourself anyway).

It’s that “everything that has eaten away at you for 10 years and driven you to catastrophic levels of romantic self sabotage can finally rest” cry, and we’re so happy for him. 👏

While Auri sleeps peaceful in his arms, Grey gets a moment to ‘come down’ after everything that happened in the hours prior. From thinking she died to finally confessing, and then her confirming she was still very much in love with him, our man here went through the wringer. He deserves his cathartic cry 🥺🥹

Y’all ready for a MASSIVE WIP??

I’ve been working on a 4 wall breakdown of Grey’s office in Neurology and it gave me the perfect opportunity for a piece I’ve wanted to do for a while. It’s been fun trying to figure out how he’d make his office “his” while still keeping it very Akso. More about it all under the cut 🫣

All the lovely plants are thanks to his friendships with two florists (Jeremiah and Lark), so he’s got a bit of a jungle at any given time lol. And anyone who’s seeing this undoubtedly knows who Pete the Pediatric Specialist Bear is, but if you’re new, he’s the teddy Grey uses to help explain to kids their surgeries and goes in with them for prep to watch over them ☺️. He’s become a sort of celebrity in Neurology and by far the favorite “doctor” around.

As for the scene itself, the TL;DR of it is after Auri and Felix run into Fox (Judai), the assassin from Ever the first time, Felix unceremoniously drops her with Rory (so he can tango without risking her), who promptly drops her with Grey so he can sweep the area, which leaves her terrified, confused, and worried. For his part, Grey handles the crisis better than anyone, and uses the good ol’ Tetris Trauma Reduction principle to help alleviate the lasting effects the event would have on her.

While he handles the matter softly for Auri's sake, he gives Felix an earful when he gets back 😅.

Time to finish up the Seasons of Grey series with the winter date! I’ve been looking forward to doing the winter outfit since I started the series back in may and I’m still so in love with how he started, I only hope to do him justice.

I knew I wanted to add him walking Archie in the final piece, so I decided to make it a little “family outing” with Auri too 🥹 anyway, we’ll see how long this sucker takes, as it’s taking me a loooooong ass time to recover from Covid 🥴

Remember how I said a while back that I was padding out the Akso neurology team that works under Dr. Grey?

Well, meet Dr. Fatima, his 1st assistant, Odell, surgery team’s charge nurse (aka the head honcho), and Ruby, the team’s do-it-all nurse (much like Yvonne up in Cardio).

This Trio keeps Dr. Grey on his toes, but more than that, they keep Neuro running as one of the most well oiled programs at Akso. Below the cut you can read my scribbly notes about each of them and how they interact with Grey and some of the others 😊

I’m slowly recovering as the days go on, and realized it was time to do another warmup sketch dump and to show off the new watermark I’m using to commemorate rejoining Sheezyart after all these years 🥲😊

As you guys can see that pencil brush I bought from Jazza still has a massive chokehold on me 🫣😂

Anyway, meet a new face- Judai, aka The Fox. A very skilled raincoat (unwillingly) employed by Ever who is contracted to kill Auri in an attempt to suppress her research into Lemuria. Which is what prompts her flight to Linkon for shelter, the hiring of Felix, Seamus, and Rory for protection, Fox’s assassination attempt, and then her eventual 8 weeks of hiding that upend Grey’s life when they have to go no-contact during that time. Felix in particular has BIG BEEF with Fox, and is eventually the one shot along with Auri at the end of their conflict, and is forever upset that it was Rory that finished him off.

In his previous life before his capture, Judai was a dansure noble with a French ballet company, along with his love- another Lemurian woman named Luna. Many years later Luna managed to track down the Byrne brothers to find out what happened to Judai. She already knew in her heart he was gone, but the closure was bittersweet nonetheless.

And off over to your left you’ll hear Seamus yelling “oh just kiss already for fuck’s sake!” While poor Felix just sighs. They’re so done with these two and their flirting 😅

Based off the moments post where (iirc) Zayne and MC discuss going to a cafe that custom makes you a soup based on a personality quiz you fill out.

Well, it only took me nine hundred million years and there is a lot I wish I could spend more time on, but honestly I’m just happy I’ve managed to finish anything. It’s literally been since the Starcatcher piece in sept since I’ve managed to complete a piece this big, and let me tell you that is a motivation killer 😣 I had a lot of high pain days while working on this so I had to do it in small increments, but overall it was nice to just have fun with a drawing again. I love these two idiots so much 🥺

And once again, I adore that LnDS has such beautiful backgrounds that you can just draw right on top of and make it really feel like your OCs are living right in their universe.

Farm boy Greyson?

Farm boy Greyson!

I’ve been having some high pain days lately (as indicated by the quality of this piece lol) and have been writing a little AU in my head about if Grey had never left Sweetwater (where his family farm is), or rather- if he’d left and gotten all the way to his residency before something happened to one of his parents and he had to go home to help them with said farm.

His sister Harper of course still remains on Skyhaven, as she was always better suited to jets than goats and fences, but she visits a lot more frequently to help where she can.

Auri probably ends up hiding out in sweetwater trying to avoid her inevitable engagement when she meets the cute farm boy, and it all kicks off from there into Country Boy vs Rich Asshole or something lol. All I know is he fills out those wranglers like you wouldn’t believe 😩🤌🤌🤌 farm chores do that man GOOD 😌

I told myself I wasn’t gonna get super involved/attached to this piece but that was all a big fat lie. Guess I’m making myself a new desktop/ipad background 🫣

In one of the LADS moments posts the guys talked about a restaurant where you take a personality test and have a custom soup made for you based on it and ngl I’ve had brainrot about Grey and Auri going and guessing each other’s soups and just being altogether fluffy and sickeningly sweet.

So have some pre-confession Equinox making the most obvious heart eyes at each other 🥰
