The end effector is a valuable piece of an industrial robot. Manufacturers do not include it in the design of the robot arm. It is bought separately based on the type of work that the company needs. This creates a flexible multitasking robot. Choosing the right end effector is very important. The improperly selected device can ruin workflows and lead to losses. Therefore, the knowledge of what end effectors are is very important.
Pneumatic grippers use air to do their work. Compressed air is forced through the piston and makes it move. They’re easily integrated into production lines. The cost is very low. They're always at full stroke. If you need to handle parts of different sizes, you will waste some time doing the full manipulation. They require a lot of space because they might interfere with their surroundings.
Do not forget also about providing the robot with air and electricity. Usually, robots do not come with compressors, so you have to buy and install the compressor yourself.
Control system
All the additional equipment that you purchased will have to be connected to a single control system that will control the valves, activate servos, determine the location of the product, and so on. Such work is performed by a programmable controller or an embedded computer.
You will have to teach your robot to make the movements you need.
Pneumatic grippers 
They have limited gripper force control. If you work with delicate details, this kind of gripper will be difficult to adjust.
The gripper speed control is also limited. If the part isn't fixed, it can move to an unpredictable position.
They can make worse air quality. 
They can't detect if you have picked a part or not. You need to add special sensors yourself. Grip detection is a very useful feature that allows you to do online error-proofing.
