Been thinking about the village raid scene lately and these are just some of my reflections on Quaritch’s line of thinking.

Contrary to what some would say, it’s very obvious in this scene that Miles didn’t have second thoughts about hurting/killing the Na’vi of the Tau’nui village at any point. We only see him stop and think of the consequences when he witnesses the clear panic Spider is in when he begs him to stop. Slang’s acting makes it abundantly clear when he decided not to hurt people, and that it was in fact a difficult decision to him; a sacrifice he made only because he knew that Spider would be broken by the act of seeing innocent life be taken, plus it would irreparably harm their relationship.

Miles’s reluctance at choosing a less harmful option shows that he knows the mission will be severely slowed down by that. It’s not a productive choice, yet he goes with it anyway.

What I see in this scene personally, coupled with the others from ATWOW and many from A1, is that Quaritch doesn’t feel substantial empathy for people. Barley any. He gets obsessive and agressive when they don’t play by his rules, but, and especially in A1, he didn’t really care about their lives or potential risks to their health. He was too focused on the prize, the goal, which we see change in A2.

In A2, Miles shows great care for Spider, and even his feelings, which is obviously difficult for him to process, but he can’t stop himself from prioritising him.

People often mistake lack of outward emotionality as lack of emotion itself, but characters like Quaritch simply have a different way of showing them. He’s a stoic older man, so his small acts of mercy and sacrifice for Spider are actually extremely substantial and show that his love for the boy is so strong, it overrides all of his apathetic-obsessive tendencies. Bouncing off of that, it seems like, while he can’t muster empathy for anyone else, he can muster mercy for them through Spider.

Simply speaking, it seems like Miles doesn’t care for anyone, but rather cares that Spider cares. It matters to him that certain people matter to Spider, so he can be lenient, if it means that his son feels better. The village raid scene showed it best.

Quaritch: “It doesn’t bother me to kill these folks, but I see you’re hyperventilating and crying and it hurts me to see you hurt that way…so I’ll be nice to them or something 🙄” proceeds to burn all of their homes

Anahera and Evatro grew up very close to one another, despite their small bickerings they will always be there for one another. Being that they were trained alongside one another for the future of their clan, a strong bond formed, not necessarily a romantic one.

Omaticon 2025 Bailey Bass Interview highlights!

This will just be a collection of quick notes I jotted down during Bailey's interview this afternoon!

Very weird way to start, but she mentioned all the set foods/catering are vegan, and anyone who wanted meat had to go meet up with other people who wanted meat to get it.

She didn't know how to swim before her final audition! (can relate, I also don't know how to swim...)

Other than Tsireya, her favorite character is Kiri. She felt really emotionally impacted by the scene where Kiri wakes up crying.

Avatar 2 & 3 were filmed at the same time.

I don't know if she was supposed to say this, but she did pretty much imply Kiri doesn't have epilepsy...

Her favorite scenes she's done are in A3

Her favorite scene she's done was in "IWTV," but one she did with Ronal in A3 is a close second.

She had no problem rolling her r's, as she speaks Russian

She said "I only do weird roles, but I'm here for it!"

She and others had to learn how to "walk like a Metkayina," meaning they have a way of gliding and swaying their hips when they walk, due to the wider hips.

Cliff Curtis and other Māori actors on set provided valuable and important insight

When asked what the biggest take away from Tsireya is, she said her kindness and to "lead with kindness."

She most often gets recognized for playing Claudia

She loves getting messages from people who've overcome their anxiety (something she's dealt with), as well as people who value her representation for being a mixed woman, embracing her curls, being Eastern Europe, and as a black woman. She mentioned that a prominent black female athlete had told her she means a lot.

If she's not busy, she likes interacting with fans! She doesn't want anyone to feel stupid for being excited to talk to her.

She actually prefers Tsireya's hair over her costumes!

Her most memorable scene to film was the one where they pull the tracking buoy from Payakan.

Bailey was such a delight to listen to, and I'm so glad she was able to attend our Omaticon this year!! I can't wait to see what she does next, from Tsireya and beyond!

Lo'ak processing the death of his brother as well as he can while refusing to truly open up with his family

Kiri sneaking away to connect to Eywa because she's not allowed to anymore.

Tuk getting closer to Spider after neteyam's death as a way to cope with the lost of her brother

A flashback so we can see how Neteyam and Spider relationship was before they grew apart

Maybe a scene or two where Spider and Neytiri interract alone

Like hust one or two scene where they are alone for only a few moments and the atmosphere is uncomfortable

Jake trying to be a dad to Spider and Spider not knowing how to react

Aonung and Lo'ak actualy becoming friends

Drew that new creature from Avatar 3 again because we got some new images! Original piece i made is linked here . Idk i think i got it pretty well on the first try, especially considering the quality of the reference image lol!

The dorsal view is pretty speculative, since all the angles we've seen so far haven't been great. I'm excited to learn more about this critter!
