Some little random drawings I did during my draw once a day illustration challenge for January! Honestly that challenge helped me do art consistently so so much and it also started a rapid fire growth/improvement stage in my art!

None of the pieces I did during January are perfect but I still like them a lot and I’m so proud of myself that I did that challenge (minus one day because I got food poisoning rip)— Totally recommend trying something similar if you’re struggling with art! Sometimes just making yourself sit down and put pencil to paper gets things rolling!!

Is it obvious I am a fan of portraits? 😂😂😂 maaan it took me so long to even start attempting backgrounds, it’s crazy to see the progress. But I started with portraits so I guess that makes sense as to the line of progression 😂😂❤️

Ahh yes the first installment of my hyper fixation on my zombie apocalypse OC’s. Boy golly do I love these characters— they’re actually the mains of a roleplay I’m currently doing. Not all of these are canon but I loveeeee drawing sad shit.

I do have another cluster of these that are NSFW sooo I may post those depending on how brave I am lmaoo (I am still very much working on anatomy)

Fun Pinterest references either with fun lighting or makeup! My favorite way to draw is finding a fun ref on Pinterest and trying to recreate it the best I can and HONESTLY I’ve seen so much growth with that method soooooo

If you want to draw good pls practice with reference, I ignored that for WAY too long 😅

My favorite part about being an artist and a role player is doing fanart of the roleplay characters. These two have my whole entire heart, and I need to draw them more but I’ve been currently focused on my post apocalyptic characters(to be posted later) so for now enjoy these two

Hey everyone!

I made this set of reference poses because I tend to struggle with dynamically posing characters. It was a really helpful excessive making this so I hope I can someone else out with these. Feel free to use these references to your hearts content!

I have such a struggle trying to translate fluffed/puffed feathers onto wings for drawing! Do you have any suggestions?

I'd say practice first by trying to look at the shapes and shadows of fluffy birds when they puff up and how messy they look.

When birds get all puffed up, each feather raises up across the coverts and around the mantle and collar so that air can be trapped in the soft down beneath, but they still follow the contours of the body.

Then its a mess-around time of finding what fits your style better but I'd say the 2 extremes of it are simple messy lines vs heavy shadows and high detail. Having a ragged edge also gives a more fluffy appearence.

Rough lines that just follow where the edge of the wing is can be good for giving a fluffy appearance, where as heavy shadows beneath the lower edges of the feathers can accentuate how fluffed up and lifted they are.

With both styles, you don't have to draw every feather or even draw the feather line drawn right up to the edge of the layer above or below it, and you can give the impression of fluffiness just from line weights alone. Smaller wings will have comparatively bigger feathers so may have less shadows to draw where as big wings have smaller contour feathers so may require more linework and shading.
