WIP Wednesday

“He’s the best pilot for the mission, Scott.  You know this.  We will fly out there as a family and a team, and no matter what we do or do not find, we will handle it together.”  John was right, and Scott hated it.  He did not want to endanger his brothers with this engine, and as hopeful as they all were, Scott knew that there was a very real possibility that they were not going to bring their father back home alive, but at least they could possibly find some closure.  

“I know…I just…”

“Scott, I know what you’re thinking.  No matter what, we will be together.  There will be no hiding things no matter what, so I don’t see the need to let you do this alone.  You’ll need our support, just as much as we will need each other's.”

Scott hated this.  He did not want to subject his younger brothers to the danger or the emotional upheaval.  It wasn’t fair to them.  It was better for him to shoulder it alone.  

“I can’t do this to you guys.”

“I’m not asking you.  I’m telling you.  You will not pilot this mission alone.  Not only can’t you keep an eye on everything, but we won’t let you.  We go together or not at all.  If you don’t believe me, I’ll call a family meeting and everyone else can tell you the same.”  He would pull the Grandma card, and he was ready to do it.

“I just want to protect you all, especially Alan.  The chances of finding him alive are slim.  It’s been over 8 years, John.  I know that the ship was fully stocked for 6 people to go to Mars for a while…but 8 years??”

“All the more reason we go together or not at all.  None of us should do this alone.”  Scott put his head in his hands.  “Scott, you’re my big brother and my commander, I trust you with just about everything, but you need to trust me with this.  No matter what happens, we will need to work through it together.  And, that means, no one is flying out there alone.”

I'm finally feeling good about this story. It's currently at 9713 words.

For my personal writing challenge, I'm up to 3907 words written so far this month.

I put this down for a few days to work on some other drabbles, and today, I printed it out to see if I could feel better about it. So far, so good.

“You deserve a chance.  I do agree on one thing though.  After high school, you do college or trade school.  If after that, you still want to be with International Rescue, that’s fine, but you deserve the same chances that the rest of us got to see other things.”

“I know, I know.  Scott keeps telling me the same thing.  ‘This is all you know.  That doesn’t make an informed decision’.  He says that every time we get to talking about me and International Rescue.”

Well, all you squidlets and Virguosos welcomed the idea of a FishTank weekend this year - enough to keep the green and yellow flying. Join me (if you'd like) in celebrating all the FishTank things!

When is FishTank Weekend? This year it’ll run from Friday, May 16th through Sunday, May 18th. The significance of the date? Loosely calculated as the day between their birthdays, but honestly any excuse 💚💛 I'll set up some posts and QOTDs as early as my Thursday night to launch the weekend for some of you all in earlier time zones.

A crack echoed and Gordon knew what they had decided. Either Scott or Alan or Ocean forbid both of them were going to step onto the frozen lake to help him and they were going to fall through the ice and they were going to die all because Gordon had been stupid enough to have climbed up on top of the bridge.

"No..." Gordon moaned, praying it would be loud enough. "Stay back..."

Gordon blinked.

The audience fell silent and Gordon could feel their eyes boring into him as they hung off the very edges of their seats, apparently having all been waiting their entire lives to hear this.

"I," He swallowed. "I don't know what you're talking about."

When an innocent interview about ocean conservation suddenly becomes about how Gordon should be dead right now, complete with graphic photos of the hydrofoil crash, he is forced to face not only his fractured memories of that day but also decide how he is going to continue with his life.

Gordon was right; Virgil had to make a decision. Either he got Gordon out of the rubble, making the entire weight of the building crush Alan, or he rescued Alan and damned Gordon to that same devastating fate. Virgil couldn’t consider it a miracle that his brothers had managed to survive the initial collapse, not knowing that he was going to have to choose which one of them to save and which to sacrifice.

Most worrying of all was the line of blood that ran down Gordon’s face. He had hit his head, on what Alan did not want to know. Gordon’s helmet had been taken off for some reason but it had no blood on it which meant it had already been off when the building collapsed. It might explain why Gordon was conscious but not really, still mumbling about dolls and girls and birds but Gordon should have known better than to remove his helmet during such a risky rescue operation.

There must have been a reason for him to do that.

If Gordon Tracey was asked to describe his current situation in a single word, that word would be ‘uncomfortable’.

Now of course being trapped in a volcanic cave with only his radio as a source of light while covered not only in his own sweat but his blood also, the word didn’t quite do what he was experiencing justice. In fact, there were many other words that would describe it better.

Claustrophobic.

Terrified.

In agony, perhaps.

Alan forced himself to be patient, watching the rise and fall of his brothers chest. Still breathing. There should have been a response by now. Maybe no one was listening to the radio. But over fifty personnel including his other brothers should be on the frequency, surely someone at Base should hear him. Surely someone would care that there was an emergency, surely someone would care that Gordon was unconscious.

Gordon was breathing. He was still breathing but at any moment he could stop and then he’ll die and it will all be Alan’s fault so why the hell was no one responding?

The Thunderbirds did not have lights and sirens, at least not like the average ambulance or police car did. But they still followed the Golden Hour rule. If the Golden Hour passes, the rescue becomes a recovery. Do not take unnecessary risk. Do not allow others to risk their lives, even as the family screams at you to help their loved one, especially as the family beats at your chest, begging you to not give up.

You are not giving up. You are being practical. The Golden Hour has passed. The likelihood of survival only diminishes from here. No lights. No sirens. Only respect.

Trying to ground himself, Gordon dug his nails in harder but he could still feel the medicine course through his veins. While the Doctors claimed that it was medicine, Gordon knew that it was instead poison that was tearing him apart from the inside. Gordon clawed at the needle that he could feel piercing his skin but it simply would not budge even as he drew blood.

Gordon could feel everything.

There was fire running through his veins, there was metal digging into his body, his bones, his very soul. Every whisper was a shout and every shout a faint memory that had lost all meaning. The lights were too bright and too dim all at once and whenever he closed his eyes he could still see his own blood mixing with the water, he could still see where his body ended and the hydrofoil begin.

He knew they were only memories and that this time it was Alan that was hurt and not him and yet Gordon could still feel everything.

For someone being mocked so thoroughly, Gordon wasn’t rising to the bait. He hadn’t so much as said a word since the youngest Tracy’s had returned from the Gala and now that Virgil was watching him, he noticed that Gordon wasn’t looking at anything in particular. It was like he was staring through Virgil, with every blink becoming more sluggish. Even more concerning was how Gordon’s arm were hanging limply by his sides.

Gordon was never this still, never this quiet. Something was wrong.

THUNDERVERSAY REWATCH PARTY - The Schedule

Alright folks, here it is!!

Note: TAG is in order because there is more of an overarching plot through the three series. In order to draw some of the FABulous links between the original and the remake we’ve done our best to arrange the TOS 1965 episodes to match - which means they aren’t in broadcast order but hopefully enjoyable all the same.

Only caveat is if you’ve never seen TOS before we suggest having a watch of the first episode (Trapped in the Sky) as that might help things make sense before we get going.

The Plan

It’s not time-specific - watch any or all of the episodes listed for that week in that week. Check in on the “I watched it” post and then go wild - write, draw, make edits, screen grabs and gifs, remake scenes, role play, go mad with the merch, reblog old stuff, ramble wildly about The Thoughts it inspires - anything goes!!

We’ll have various group activities and challenges running - more on those in another post!

“You start there.  Silence the phone too, except for people like Penelope and Parker.  Everyone else can wait.  Tracy Industries has an entire board of directors that know better than to make big decisions without your input, so they will behave until you’re able to attend meetings again.  If not, they get my wrath.  Simple as that.  As for International Rescue, that can wait too.  You are all entitled to time to grieve.  After you all have had some time to breathe, I suggest that you, Virgil, and John sit down to decide what you’d like to do.  That’s a few things off of your checklist for now.  What else is left?”

I probably don't have it in me to do FishTank Week this year, and some of the interest seems to have shifted, which is normal and ok. But i still love them lots so I wanted to ask if anyone would be interested if we did like a lil weekend? Would anyone participate with reblogs or new writing/art/works?

We usually drop it mid-May, which is the day between their birthdays, so there would be plenty of time to put something together. 💚💛

Just let me know so I can gauge interest and if we still like the idea I can cook up some prompts.
