Was reading about Project 2025 and thought this quote from fascism scholar Ruth Ben-Ghiat was illuminating to say the least:

I thought this explains a lot; I remember discussing Project 2025 with my dad (a standard-issue white liberal) and he was doubtful that it was as bad as it seemed. He argued that it was more of a "wishlist" than guidelines for Trump, and said that he thinks that most Republicans wouldn't support it even if they did support Trump.

This quote really helps me understand things better: political conservatism has spiraled to new lows for decades now, and after decades of exploiting America to feed the rich and rob the poor, of taking without giving, people have begun to catch onto the grift. Republicans tried to stay afloat by courting groups predisposed to strong belief by supergluing themselves to the target: why should Christians be so obsessed with gathering wealth and money for the rich and powerful, unless they thought Republicans were Christlike merely by standing near a cross? In turn, why would a party proud of "small government" want to be able to control every aspect of your personal life, unless they wanted to seize power?

Why has the Republican Party shifted to promoting authoritarianism? Because they're opportunists, willing to stand for any cause if it's profitable. It's the only way it can survive. They accuse others of "destroying America" while they stuff the Constitution in a shredder. Let's show 'em what's for.
