I'm Emma and this is my tumblr. Expect contemporary art, intersectional feminism, gifs, pictures of places I want to be, and a surprising amount of Alphonse Mucha. And whatever else seems like a good idea at the time.

Tumblr Artist
Mark Dorf | on Tumblr (USA) - Axiom & Simulation
The young artist, Mark Dorf, grew up in Louisville, KY in a family based in science and arts. For the past few years he has spent his time seeking out new landscapes and environments to immerse himself within in order to continue his explorations of humanity and their interactions with the natural landscape from where we all once originally came. Mark seeks to understand humanity as an observer in his surroundings, using photography as a tool to explore the curious habitation of the world around us. His series Axiom and simulation examines the ways in which humans quantify and explore our surroundings by comparing artistic, scientific, and digital realism. Mark currently resides in Brooklyn, New York where he creates his images and continues to explore contemporary art. Please visit artist’s website or follow his Tumblr.

this is one of 9 (so far) paper sheets that contains my Tokyo drawing.
I got the chance to use one of the laser cutters on my school, and just for the hell of it, I let it redraw my drawing. The process took approximately one hour.
The canvas in this case was a sheet of oak plywood, 3 mm thick.
I might very well come back to this technique when I have completed the drawing, as it can yield some very interesting results (cutting several layers of cityscape, and mounting it on top of each other in a frame of some sort. Making a 2D surface feel 3D, in a way.
We’ll see.

Caitlin Moran isn't perfect but she gives some good advice. (See also: the title of this blog)
My daughter is about to turn 13 and I’ve been smoking a lot recently, and so – in the wee small hours, when my lungs feel like there’s a small mouse inside them, scratching to get out – I’ve thought about writing her one of those “Now I’m Dead, Here’s My Letter Of...

Tumbling over the past year and a half has made me see the problems of gender roles that exist in media, but sometimes it gets to the point where I over analyze every single piece of television or film that I come across. (However this in no way means that I think feminist media criticism is wrong, or should be avoided!) Mostly I just over think everything.

THE INTERNATIONAL SWEETHEARTS OF RHYTHM YOU GUYS!!!!
Pioneering musician Carline Ray died July 18 at age 88. In the 1940s, when it was difficult for women to be accepted as jazz musicians, Ray found a home in the all-female band The International Sweethearts of Rhythm as the guitarist and a featured vocalist. She was also a bass player who performed with Sy Oliver, Mercer Ellington and Mary Lou Williams.
