Alexa burst into laughter at the other girl’s words. They were a lot like zombies. They were high functioning zombies. “I mean I’m glad that we’re not though eating brains and such…that’d require people to actually die and I don’t like to kill for my meals. I don’t really like blood in general.” She shrugged. No matter how okay she became with what she was, she would never like the diet she now had. “I really do appreciate that. Of course. I love having test subjects. Makeup artist is my second dream job.” Alexa shook her head in protest of her words. “You’re a naturally beautiful southern belle,” she corrected. “Of course. Most vampires I meet Im always in awe of how far they’ve come and how they make it seem easy. It’s good to talk to someone that doesn’t have their shit together.”
“Yeah. I’m not to good at the whole food thing yet. Eating people weirds me out, but I think I’d rather attack someone’s neck then eat a cute little bunny? Is that weird? And then there is always blood bags, but then I think of hospitals and then I feel sick,”She rambled on. “Then count me in. I’ll be like your own personal guinea pig,” She added with a smile. “That’s not true, but thank you,” Em said with a small smile, smiling over at her new friend. “Welp then you’ve definitely come to the right place cause I’m a mess. Barely know how to do a load of laundry by myself I’m afraid.”

“My kinda listener, living in shame. I’m thinking of doing it , that’s why.”
“What can I say? I’m a fan of shame. I feel safe within my own little shame spiral. It reminds me of home,” Emery joked, before giving the brunette a little shrug. “Well if you do, I’ll definitely support ya.”

“What is considered country chic?” Margaret asked with a small laugh as she took at one more quick look at the two curtains before ultimately deciding on the one that the brunette had chose, and quickly put the other one down.
“Oh you know, things with tiny little animals on it. Especially birds. And deer. Lots and lots of deer. Lots of wood work. Something you might find snow white lounging in? Or a lumber jack? That kind of stuff.”

"Oopsy daisy!” Emery exclaimed, taking a few steps back before accidentally trip and fall back on her ass. “I’m so sorry,” She said letting out a little laugh as she fell back on her butt. “I sometimes have a problem with payin’ attention.”
Lorelei was heading out of the building, her distracting thoughts keeping her out of the moment. It was only when she heard a noise that she was brought back to reality, and visibly started. “Hoolly sh-,” breathed as she clutched her chest. “You scared the hell out of me,” she added, giggling in her slight embarrassment.

"Honestly? I’d pretend I wasn’t, but late at night? You know when no one’s around, when I drive through the taco bell and then hide in the parking lot eating my take out in shame? Yeah. I would. Why you ask?”
“Okay, so hypothetically, if you saw a podcast called Talking Shit, would you listen? Asking for a friend, of course…”

"I like the second one?” Emery offered up, giving her a light shrug. “But, I don’t know if I’d be the best person to pick. “But I don’t know if I’d be the best person to ask. If I had to describe my taste I’d say it’s country chic? Maybe more on the trash side of chic though.”
“I’m not sure which color to go with. What do you think?” Margaret held out the two different colored curtains up so the person beside her could see them. Margaret had some free time. She decided to get some things for her and Arthur’s house, and the house was in desperate need of curtains “I’m awful with deciding these kinds of things. Please help!”

“Where are you from? Before you came here?” Margaret asked as they continued to walk. The wind made the day unusually chilly for the season. Pulling her cardigan a little closer as she crossed her arms. “I think some people are just tea people. Some aren’t.”
“From a farm out in Georgia? But, we lived in Utah for a few years before that. Also, on a farm...” Emery said with a little shrug, tucking a stray strand of hair behind her ears as she chewed mindlessly on her bottom lip. “I can see that. I think I’m gonna like Tea better myself. But, I guess I’ll just have to test it out to be sure, huh?”

cainanking: Cain nodded. “Yes, she’s a hell beast. She’s always giving me a hard time and doesn’t listen to me at all ever. She never takes my fatherly advice.” He heaved a sigh as if it was the worst thing ever. Cain actually laughed at her words. “Well, I mean you’re not wrong. I mean it’s kinda like having family blood running through your veins. Instead you have mine, so…I mean if we’re technical and take it all the way back it’s not even truly mine, it’s some original vampire’s blood that’s gone from person to person to person to person.” He shrugged, never truly wanting to track down that lineage. “It’s complicated. My history with girlfriends always gets a bit…murdery. So…I have to tread lightly when it comes to relationships.” He frowned. “Hey! What’s my human got to do with my girlfriend? Or lack there of? I’d rather not go to the store every single time I need food if food is just there.” He shrugged not truly finding the issue with having someone as a full time human to feed from. “How about Mac and Cheese and Chicken and Waffles? I do cook. Believe it or not though I didn’t when I was a teenager, we had a personal chef. But that personal chef taught me how to cook because I always wanted to get my hands dirty.”
“Well, I mean, you ain’t technically her daddy, but yeah, I could see that from her,” Emery let out a little laugh. “This is complicated,” Em pouted, rubbing her temples at the thought. Before, switching the subject back to his love life.“But that doesn’t seem complicated to me. Seems like you’re overthinkin’ things and kinda of chickening out, to be honest,” She said with a little shrug. “I mean, you like her dontcha? Cause if you like her, you might as well go for it cause if not you’re gonna lose her and then where will ya be? You’ll be sad and alone, that’s where,” She added. Biting down on her lower lip after she spoke out of fear that she might have said to much. “Everything! You ain’t making no moves. Yet, you have another girl livin’ in your house. You act like you’re afraid of commitment, but you had no problem committing to one type of food to eat for the rest of your life. What type of message does that send?” She said, accidentally calling him out again. “Oh! Hell yes!” She jumps up and down excitedly, before pausing. Tilting her head to the side, she asked him confused,”And wait- hold up. You had a personal chef? Sweet baby jesus. How rich were you growin’ up? And why in the world are you stealin’ things if you’re walking around with that kind of dough on you? You want to know what I had to eat as a kid? Frozen waffles. And if I was lucky, I’d get to walk down to the super market and get myself a twinkie. It’s no wonder I was a chubby toddler.”

“You can have a family and kids. They won’t be biologically yours but adoption is an option,” she reasoned. She wanted to show her the bright side to things, but she didn’t know if there was truly a bright side. “Other than the fact that you told me you were a vampire, I’d never know. So you could be human with me. We can pretend for a little while if you want? I don’t mind being the human perspective,” she offered with a smile. She had many talks with her stepdad about being a vampire - enough to know that it wasn’t truly a life she wanted. But it was a fate much better than death.
“I know that. But, I just- it won’t be the same, now will it?” Em said with a small shrug. Glancing up, her eyes widened at the blonde’s offer, a smile spreading across her lips as she gave the girl a little nod. “You’d do that for me?” She asked, a small blush spreading across her cheeks as she spoke. “Cause I think I’d like that. Pretending that is.”

“Exactly! And considering how disgusting some people can be, I don’t even want to think what could happened to my poor coffee,” she mused, disgust on her features as she remembered all the horrid encounters she’d had in public bathrooms. How people could be so unhygienic was a mystery. Gasping at the fact that the woman had never had coffee before, Sophie placed a hand on her chest, “How have you never had coffee before? Who wronged you? —It’s literally the only way I can even function so I would be more than willing to help you order something. Personally, I’m a big fan of lattes and frappes so that’s a good place to start since regular coffee is too bland.”
“yeah.... we best be gettin’ you a new one,” Emery let out a little laugh, knowing fairly well that cup was dead to the both of them by now. “Um... my folks? I was um... kind of sick for a while back? Before I um... turned? So, the doctors didn’t want to risk it. What with my bad heart and all,” Em admitted, glancing down at her feet as she spoke. “But, now I’m all cured, so I reckon I can have all the lattes and frappes in the world.”

“Ah,” Margaret said with a curt nod, understanding what the girl meant. Remembering herself right before she was turned. Margaret however was sick by the plague of the time. The memory made her shiver. “Well now you can have all the caffeine you would like.” The blonde smiled at the girl trying to make things more positive for her. “The tea is good here, It grows on you.” She wanted to press more, but didn’t want to intrude so she remained quiet, finding it impolite to question someone about themselves.
“Yeah,”Em said biting down on her lower lip as she gave the girl a shrug. “I’d like that,” She smiled back. “Or at least I think I would? But, then again, I might hate the taste now that I think about it. And eh. I’m not picky when it comes to tea. We never really had good kinds back home.”

At her words, it was like realization hit her too. “Are we just a different species of zombie? We don’t eat brains or anything, but we drink humans’ blood. What separates us from them? We’re dead…they’re dead…we eat people, they eat people. I’m sure they can live for a long time, we have eternity. It’s like we’re evolved zombies!” The thought was actually unsettling to her to think about. Alexa shook her head. “Not much to say really, I won’t know until I talk to them and I’m just not courageous right now.” She frowned at her words. “Did what you did?” Even without knowing what that meant, she nodded. “It’s no replacement for your actual family but I can honestly say, when you finally figure out how to navigate this life somewhat, everything gets easier, even being without your family.” Alexa nodded at her question. “it’s actually for makeup, but hair goes along with it. And sometimes I switch it up and do cover songs.” She could understand that feeling of loneliness. She’d felt it for a little while. “Well, you don’t have to feel alone now, you’ve met me and I’m here if you ever want to hangout again other than this impromptu moment,” she told her. “We can eve talk about less sad things.”
“Holy bejesus!” Emery exclaimed at the thought. “We are!” Emery gulped shaking her head at the thought. “Well, if you ever need some moral support, I’v got your back?” Em offered up with a smile. “Thanks, hun,” She said with a small nod, still missing home desperately, but knowing that Alex was right. She had to make a new home here now. There was no going back for the blonde, despite how much she wanted to. “Well, I mean, you can totally help me with that too! I’m kinda useless when it comes to all that stuff. I’d say Imma pretty poor excuse for a southern belle,” Emery said with a little shrug. “Really? Yeah, I’d like that. I’d like that a lot actually.”

“My bad. I didn’t mean it like that Em.” Telling the blonde with a frown washing over her face. “I’m just I guess not use to parents actually caring what their children did. Plus I didn’t exactly have a normal childhood so can’t really judge anyone else’s.” Shrugging lightly at her words, she twisted the rings on her fingers out of habit at the mention of her family. “I can always ask Cain? Or maybe one of the originals? They’d know more about certain vampire habits.” Offering to Emery incase she did want her to look into certain vampire habits. For the most part Ava had never cared because she’d been so hell bent on being normal or at least trying to be normal. “Debatable. At least a ring fixes the whole combusting into flames.” Holding up her right hand to show Emery her daylight ring, she wiggled it with a smile. “I’m not sure you can fix sparkling in the sun.” Ava pointed out with a laugh. Standing off to the side while she waited, she worked on answering a handful of emails that’d she’d spent the last week ignoring. Looking up from her phone with a smile when Emery reappeared and she tossed her phone into her purse. “Okay, let’s go home.” Nodding towards the door, she looked over at Emery as they walked. “So how have you been holding up? You’ve had a lot of big changes recently, then you kinda fell into all of this madness here.”
“Can we just stop talking about parents, okay?” Emery said, biting down on her lower lip hard as she glanced down at her feet. She didn’t want to think anymore about the life she had left behind, about what she had to do since she turned- Maybe her brother was right to look at her that way. Maybe she really was a monster, inside and out. “O-okay. You don’t have to. I just was curious, is all,” Em said with a little shrug. “True,” Em nodded, glancing down at ther own daylight ring she wore on her finger. It was simple, danty, and had a little cross on it. Something that almost seemed ironic to wear now. “You say that like looking like you walked out of some pageant or glitter store is such a bad thing,” She teased, giving Ava a little smile. “Okay,” Emery said with a nod, even if she still was having trouble thinking of Ava’s as her new home. “I don’t know. Not great. I guess. You um... you didn’t know much about who I was before you turned me, did you?” Emery asked quietly, knowing they hadn’t really talked about her past since she had gotten to town.

“I should have known that little Hell Beast put you up to it. But yeah I am her dad, because my blood in her system is the reason she turned.” Cain chuckled. “Um…I’ll just give you the short answer of sure. But Ally and I have a different bond than Ava and I. Ava’s mine. My little girl that’s not so little. She’s my baby vamp. And Ally…she…we well yeah.” Trying to explain the dynamic he had with the Bishop sisters were already difficult. He was just glad he left out the third one. “I guess now, you’re my even younger baby vamp?” He nodded. “Well, normal depends on you. You’re going to have to find your new normal and what you’re comfortable with. Some vampires only drink from blood bags, some prefer it from the source. I have a human that lives with me. Wouldn’t recommend that option. Because you have a constant annoyance. Some mix it into their food. We can find your balance.” He studied her for a minute, deciding they might need to do a mix in with food. “So how about I cook for you and mix it in. What do you like to eat?”
“Hell beast?” Emery asked confused. “If she has your blood in her system, and I have her blood in mine, doesn’t that mean I also have yours in- Vampire family trees are weird,” Emery shook her head at the thought, not knowing if she’d ever fully understand any of it. “We well yeah isn’t much of an answer,” Emery pointed out. “You know it ain’t rocket science, if you like her, then tell her. And then you’ll both be happy right? In a weird sort of Game of Thrones family dynamic kind of way,” She teased, flashing Cain a little smile. “See? You, Grandpa,” She told him poking his chest lightly, before looking up at him with a playful grin. “You have a what now? No wonder you can’t get a girlfriend,” Emery mumbled under her breath. “Oh and you can cook? Okay! I like Mac and Cheese? Oh or Chicken and Waffles? Maybe? Basically anything deep fried. It’s kind of my comfort food.” Her family had been super healthy growing up only letting them eat junk food on special occasions and, after she found out about her heart, she wasn’t allowed to have anything fried anymore. It was the one thing she felt like she missed out on when she was human, only getting to enjoy at other friend’s birthday parties and something that always made her feel just a tiny bit happier with one bite.

Bianca’s eyes widened at that. “So, you’d rather be human than live forever, and have superhuman…everything?” she asked curiously. “I mean being human when things literally blow up sort of makes you realize that if you get hurt, you’re going to have real, human injuries that won’t heal quickly. And death is a real possibility sooner than those people that don’t die as easily.” She honest felt so freaked out about it the fact that she was suddenly realizing just how easy it was for her to die.
“Yeah? I mean I think so? I’d rather be a vampire than dead, but if I could go back,” She mused. Hole in the heart and all, she’d take it in a matter of seconds. “I would. No questions asked. Yeah, but, you get to have a real life. You get to have a family and kids. You get to grow old. I know aging might not sound that great, but when you still can, life just seems to have a whole lot more meaning. At least it did for me anyway. I only turned a few months ago though, so I think I’m just having a hard time trying to get over the no longer have a heartbeat thing and all.”
