Personal Space
Hermitcraft: Lucky in Love Day 27 - PolyHermits
No man is an island. No base is a solitary work.
Read it here on AO3. (Bonus drawing will be added later.)
------
The Hermits, generally, enjoy having some space to themselves. Some are more distant than others, but even those that live right on top of each other prefer a modicum of privacy and control over at least a little of their space. Something that is purely, unequivocally, wholly Theirs and Theirs alone. At least at the start of the season, anyways.
The thing is, while the Hermits enjoy their own privacy, they also enjoy each other’s privacy. And space. And while there is the occasional ‘borrowing’ of things, most of the time, the Hermits prefer to add to each other’s spaces. Pranks, gifts, one and the same - little bits of themselves, a mark left on each other. After a while, the new Hermits learn to deal with this oddity of terms. They learn that the game is a way of saying I Love You.
XBCrafted builds himself a guardian temple in a solitary frozen ocean. He asks Cleo for advice and help with the giant armor stands, one of which bears Keralis’ face and hat, and hires Bdubs to add greenery and life to the interior. Ethoslab drags his feet on finishing a roof for his build; he’s busy! Before he can blink, someone else has built it for him, intending to clash. He’ll keep it this way, he thinks. Joe Hills’ entire Hermit Holmdell project is meant to be a zone for other Hermits to build things in that don’t feel fitting at home. It’s not even done yet, and already both willing and accidental additions have made their way in. Joel Smallishbeans constructs a towering yet compact cyberpunk city on the side of the mountain. One of the towers begins as a game of purpur gifting with Pearl; another is topped by Impulse’s ape contribution. (And don’t even get him started on the statues.) While some might say that GeminiTay decorating her beach with the skulls of those who challenge her is a personal choice, they do keep coming and offering more interesting heads for the piles. Skizzleman is a man who never throws away a gift. Even when Impulse literally gifts him poop just to prove it to everyone. Even Docm77, who is the most miserly with his personal projects, finds the hands of others stamped on them from time to time. The fact that the Ore Snatcher studies his redstone enough to find what can be replaced without breaking anything would be impressive if it wasn’t so infuriating.
No man is an island. No base is a solitary work. The pieces of each other weave and scatter through the claimed lands. Threads of connectedness borrowed from each other’s tapestries; a reminder that no matter how far, or how odd the hour, they’re never fully alone. Just another form of love.

the thing about d/s is that for virtually any ship i can be sold on either character in either role. arguments about whether a given character could or would dom are virtually always deeply silly and tend, when they lean into the idea that a given character could never dom because they're just too weak-willed, incompetent, naive, or helpless, to be the product of unexamined biases percolating up.
would this character dom (or sub) is almost never an interesting question. how would this character dom (or sub) is much more interesting. what do they get out of it? how do they feel about it? how experienced are they? are they confident or awkward? what kinks do they enjoy? what are their limits and how do they communicate them? what is the dynamic with their partner like? does it shift in the bedroom, or does it stay the same? et cetera. the same as any good erotica, it's got to be about these specific people, not faceless automatons filling the prescribed roles, or it's boring
