Hey! I’m really only starting to get into witchcraft, and I have a question that I couldn’t really find an answer to online. Do you have to worship deities/gods/goddesses? Like is it possible to do witchcraft without doing so?

Nope, absolutely not a requirement! Plenty of witches don’t work with specific deities. There are even atheist witches who work with the forces of nature/technology/etc. while believing the gods themselves are literal entities.

I’ve been searching everywhere for an answer to this, but can passed on celebrities attach themselves to you? Occasionally I get overwhelming feelings of love and a spiritual connection to celebrities that have passed. I also get overwhelming feelings of sadness of them being gone. None of them have passed recently. And they’re always people I never thought of much beforehand so I can’t even say it’s because I was a fan of theirs. What is happening to me?

Hi! My first thought is perhaps you’re tapping into the energies surrounding their deaths. Mourning and sadness are powerful things, and celebs who pass on can be mourned by people all over the world (think of how much appreciation and loss circles around a photo of Steve Irwin or Alan Rickman). Even without having a personal interest in these people, you could still be sensitive to the energies that their fans have spent years or decades putting out. 

Of course, it’s possible you’re a magnet for long-deceased celebrity ghosts, but I feel that’s the less likely scenario. Maybe see if you can recreate a similar sensation reading obituaries of average people.

What types of oils/essential oils can I use to ward and cleanse my home? Are there specific oils that do specific things? I just want to keep out negative energy and bad spookies

Just be careful with essential oils if you have pets. Since they’re very concentrated, certain oils can be harmful to animals. I always do an “is this oil safe around cats” search before using any sort of oil

I haven’t taken reading requests in a while, but since it’s for Pluto, I figured I’d get out the cards. Wouldn’t you know that something I thought I lost was in my tarot card bag...

This is an 8 card relationship spread that details how you see each other at present.

1. You - Ace of WandsThis is the beginnings of movement and the untempered energy of wanting to move forward. The cat is in living branches sprouting from a dead stump (and here we see Pluto’s rebirth and transformation aspects). It’s a card about growth and potential. This is you wanting to make progress on your path.

2. How You See Him - The World (Inverted)So much to offer, but you aren’t getting anything from it. You see that you have much to gain, but it might seem like it’s behind a closed door.

3. How He Sees Himself - 4 of SwordsThe suit of swords centers around action and decisiveness, with the 4 being the break in the action. Here the cat is resting and regaining energy, and will return to the fight later. It can be a card of retreat. I think that having this card represent him means that he is waiting on you to take the next step. He is sitting back and waiting to see how you proceed before he takes more action himself.

4. What He Represents to You - 5 of Pentacles (Inverted)This is a card about famine, about seeing the potential through the window while being stuck out in the cold. This goes back to card number 2.

5. What You Represent to Him - Ace of ChalicesI think this is the most relevant card for your question. What does he think of you? To him, you are wellspring of emotional energy. The chalices focus on our emotions, with the ace being the untapped potential of this energy. Emotions are a very powerful thing when we are in control of them.

6. Obstacles - The Magician (Inverted)I’m not at all surprised that the obstacles are this card. An inverted magician has all the tools he needs, but hasn’t yet figured out how to use them. Going back to the previous card, I feel that your blockages may be emotional in nature. Meditations focused on whatever struggles you face (whether it’s impatience, indecisiveness, etc) can help overcome this obstacle. I would also suggest looking into grounding and centering!

7. Strengths - 6 of ChalicesAn interesting card to be here, this is about nostalgia and a happy childhood. It’s likely that he has always watched out for you and helped you along, whether or not you were aware. And again we see chalices, filled with flowers growing from your emotions.

8. Outcome - The Hanged ManIf it’s not evident, you’re at a bit of an impasse, but now you have some more information. You should be able to take a step back and look at the situation with this new perspective and figure out how best to proceed. The hanged man has options and, more importantly, a clear view. Is there a spell I say or chant while putting up wards in my home?

Personally I don’t use verbal spells, but you certainly can! You can write your own short chant to specify your intentions, or you can do a search for warding spells or protective chants. There are tons and tons out there, and some of them are rather specific or call on certain deities, so I would just dig around a little until you find one that you feel comfortable with.

there are always odd noises on the farm. half of them come from the animals

try to forget what the lake looks like between the hours of three and four AM

never ever find yourself alone in the milking shed in the south end of the farm. time passes differently there

if you happen to hurt yourself in your exploration, make sure you do not bleed onto the dirt

bring plenty of water, you do not want to drink from there

the cows will watch you, this is normal

close every gate you open, even if the fields are empty. don’t ever leave one open behind you, just trust me

beware unstable rocks, the cracks tend to be filled with insect nests

bring a weapon with you, but no guns

if you see someone else while exploring, never tell them your name. you can never be sure if they are real or not, and further out you go, the less real they will seem. the patupaiarehe have evolved in cruel and unusual ways

a tree with the undersides of its leaves showing mean that a storm is coming. a tree with no leaves means the storm has already come

Hi anon. Sorry this took forever to answer! I’m not sure I have any resources for you. A huge portion of books on “the basics” are very Wicca-focused, and I don’t follow that path myself. Keep and eye on this post in case any followers can recommend resources!

Could you help me? How can I know for sure if i have spirits in my home? Nothing strange happened but sometimes I have a troublesome feeling when I home alone or when I wake up at the middle of the night for no reason...I’m a baby witch and I would like to ward my home but I don’t want to trap anything in it... Thanks for your answer! 💚

If you live in an older home, sometimes old wiring can give you that being watched sort of feeling. I wouldn’t be too concerned if there’s no noticeable activity. That being said, you could try speaking to whatever might be in your home when you start to feel uneasy (just something simple, like “hello, you’re welcome to share this home but feeling you nearby can be a little uncomfortable”).

There’s also the possibility it could be lingering energy without any conscious thought. If you aren’t comfortable trying to talk to it or if that doesn’t seem to make a difference, cleanse your space. After clearing out those energies, you’ll be able to ward without trapping anything inside.

How can I tell if I am actually of powerful witch decent bloodline?

Unless your family was amazing at keeping records, there’s really no surefire way to know. Most people of European ancestry, for instance, can trace family back pretty far through ancestry.com and similar services, but witchcraft was a dangerous practice in the middle ages, and even someone who can delve pretty far into the archives might not know if any of their ancestors practiced.

That being said, not every witch gets their magic from their ancestry. If you feel a connection to your ancestors and think that they’re the source of your power, there are lots of people who practice ancestor veneration and spirit work to connect with past generations. I unfortunately know almost nothing about that, but I hope it gives you a bit of starting direction. Best of luck!

I have experienced an entity (a lady who has pale white cold skin, tall, long nails and a sad frown). I've seen her mostly at home (Sleeping across a high cupboard, waiting for me under the bed) and I feel her presence more than I see her. She has followed me from a different country in which I had stayed in for 17 years. I always feel her presence when I sleep and have the feeling that she does something to me when I sleep. She has never spoken to me. What can I do to remove her from my life?

My first go-to would be a solid cleansing followed by a solid warding.

There are tons of cleansing methods out there. Burning sage (or other “purifying” herbs like cedar, rosemary, etc) is probably the most common method, but you certainly aren’t limited to this. In candle magic, black candles are burned to banish negativity (if you believe this entity means you harm), and white is a sort of all-purpose candle that you can use. If you’re able, take a bath with a salt soak or scrub with one in the shower.

There’s also a method for severing ties with someone/something if you think there is some sort of personal connection. I’ve mentioned this before on gemstone magic posts. I make and sell jewelry using Hemalyke from this wonderful jewelry supply site, and I’ve seen the same exact products being sold at holistic fairs and craft fairs by sellers who market them as hematite. Whether they’re misinformed or trying to be intentionally deceitful is another issue entirely that I’m not going to touch. As a consumer, know what you’re buying, especially those of you seeking stones for healing purposes.
