The Slight of The Heart (snippet):

It takes a beat for Eliott to notice that Lucas has fallen behind. When he turns, it is to the sight of the shorter king greeting and talking to the vendors. An old lady who is looking aged and worn, wrinkled hands gripping tightly at Lucas' youthful ones.

Too far away to hear their conversation Eliott finds the tension in his shoulders slipping. Can practically feel the lines of his face softening as his mind conjurs what the two of them could possibly be talking of as Lucas pulls out a fistful of coins hidden somewhere in the folds of his clothing. He exchanges it for a small trinket that wasn't worth the amount he'd handed over.

A hand claps him on his shoulders and Eliott tilts his head in greeting.

"Had it been anyone else, you would've lost that hand."

"Don't go all king on me, El."

"Idriss."

Eliott grins at his dark skinned companion before turning back to Lucas, watching as he's already made his way past the old lady who is sobbing into the palms of her hands, shoulders shaking from the force of it.

Something about the simplicity of the scene makes Eliott's throat tighten. Lucas acting like he hadn't just changed that woman's life for good. Restoring some kind of trust that had been long lost in the lands of the North, between the people and their king.

Lucas walks gingerly, slow in his pace and favoring one side. It makes Eliott narrow his eyes, thinking back on the glare that Yann had sent his way just earlier that day.

"He is a good king."

Idriss notes this with a calculating gaze before turning away and throwing that same look at Eliott.

"What do you make of him?"

And it's as if the question is an easy one to answer, the way it tumbles out of Idriss' mouth all casual. Familiar.

Eliott turns and keeps walking ahead when he sees that Lucas' is only a couple paces away, giving the short brunette the benefit of not having to walk beside him just yet, in public, while their courtship is so new and young.

"What I think? Hm."

He has already gained so much. How does he say this candidly.

He doesn't. Eliott keeps walking. He ignores the way Idriss grins.

IDK WHY THE DEEPEST REACH IS TAKING ME FOREVER. Probs cuz I decided I wanted to give all my characters some screen time and now I'm trying to tie everything together like an idiot 🙂

And can I tell you I'm shit at transitions so this thing is playing out like a sitcom where shit happens off screen (like how elu always resolved their fights off screen 🙂🙂🙂) and you come running into the office with crazy hair and the general question is "what just happened?"

All casual like even though the office is on fire. Yeah, thats pretty much The Deepest Reach. Only I throw in pining, an unhealthy dose of talks about love, elu, sassy Mika, and tension, and sex, and characters I know nothing about but they are showing up for.... plot device. Like I never watched Arthur's season so when I write Camille and Noee the feeling of doing them dirty is slick on my finger tips as I type 🙂🙂🙂

BUT EH. IT'LL COME TOGETHER AND I HOPE YOU LOVE IT WHEN IT DOES.

The Slight of Thr Heart, lady lemme just tell you, it's so hard to switch between the writing styles I'm going for my fics. And have I mentioned, I don't even know what time period this takes place in lmao? Its like a mix of medieval Kings and "witches" and technological advanced. SODKJDDJ should I figure it out or go with the fucking flow.
