It’s sad y’all can come and say “op is a dumbass” or “Op is pathetic/delusional“ when I literally have said this entire time “IM WILLING TO LISTEN AND HAVE AN OPEN DISCUSSION TO HEAR YOU OUT AS LONG AS YOU DONT ATTACK ME”. like why do y’all have to be aggressive when someone critics JKR, I’m sincerely moved on from this situation and have already wrote a new post about this all. But continuing to drag this up and hate on me as a person is immature. How am I in the wrong when I’ve realized my mistakes, apologized, listened to those who are helpful in the discussions and still get shit on? TW : de@th threats; I’ve literally been told to off myself because of that post. I just wanted to have a civil conversation on this but because of the response I left for a year, and have come back to no shortage of messages. This is me signing off, sincerely thanking you to those who made a point to kindly discuss and disagree with my point, you’ve seriously educated and helped me learn from this rash analysis’, hope you’re doing well
Everything wrong(questionable) in the Harry Potter Books:
We can acknowledge the J.K. Rowling wrote the Harry Potter books but we also have to have a conversation admitting the flaws and harmful ideologies the books hold. Simply the best way to show your appreciation for a work is to criticize the work, and acknowledge the flaws. At the end of the day the art still can have flaws, so speaking about this in the Hp books some things that can be found as flaws are:
The fat phobia, simply the characters who were written as “fat”, “husky” or “bigger” were often depicted as villainous such as Crab, Goyle, and Dudley.
The goblins at Gringotts, describing them in ways that were used to stereotype Jewish people during the Holocaust, such as “long hooked noises” that appeared on nazi propaganda. As well as describing them as smart, and greedy with their riches, furthering another stereotype held.
The pro slavery narrative? That house elves are just so ‘thankful’ to be enslaved and that they think it’s their only life obligations. Seems really weird that they would sympathize with their oppressor and want to be enslaved.
Professor Quirell’s turban “hiding evil”, this is self explanatory but disrespects those who wear a turbans or any sort of headscarf covering for religious faith, making them out to be evil.
Little to no representation for poc(let alone no good representation)
The stereotyping of Indian character, Padma and Parvati Patil deserved so much better. As well as their names are some of the most stereotypical names to give a character of Indian descent.
Having 2 of the very FEW black characters(referencing Dean and Blaise) not having a father figure, this perpetuates a negative stereotype of black fathers being absent in their families life
Going further on the Jewish stereotypes of being very greedy and selfish we are introduced to “Anthony Goldstein” whom we know is Jewish solely from his name.
Cho Chang, we are going to give a Chinese character a Korean name?? Let alone cho chang, that is one of the most stereotypical names I’ve ever heard.
Promoting harmful stereotypes but what about how Seamus’ only character trait is liking rum and blowing stuff up. This isn’t a little harmful of an Irish stereotype to push?
We had a black wizard with the last name “Shakelbolt”, am I the only one that finds that wrong??
Transcoding Rita Skeeter.
As well as after coding Rita Skeeter as a trans woman, Rita also uses her status as an illegal animagus to spy on children in gof. Pushing that narrative that trans people are using their identity to be able to have access to children and those of the opposite gender, a harmful stereotype cis people have towards trans people. (It’s not explicitly stated that Rita is trans but I read her as trans as well as she is described with masculine features and coded that way by Jkr)
Fleur losing every event. Arguably you can say ‘oh someone has to loose’ but if when the only woman competing who the goblet chose her as one of the most capable wizards at her school to compete, why is she not on the same level as the men. Why isn’t she a more capable wizard? There were tens of other wizards from her school that possible could have been picked but she was the best. And she lost? Almost as if jkr deeply rooted misogyny never planned on giving fleur a decent chance.
Hermione’s inner misogyny(I love Hermione but she was written with inner misogyny especially since jkr has it). Such as her down playing Dolores assault, her hatred towards lavender(it wasn’t just jealousy), bullying/calling fleur rude names(especially since fleur is very feminine and a veela), ect trust me there’s more
Demeaning or villainizing femine interest or things stereotypically femine that can perpetuate misogyny. Like the balant disliking of Padma and Lavender for gossiping, or taking interest in fashion(notable stereotypically feminine interests).
Trigger warning: SA/R@PE. Although it is not clearly stated when umbridge is taken away by the centaurs but it alludes to her being r@ped by the centaurs. In alot of Greek myths along with stories centaurs have been known to r@pe helpless women. Even if it is not clearly written, most people know of these stories about centaurs can connect two together. Going back to the point of Hermione misogyny after Umbridge’s attack she mocks her, victim shaming her. It’s gross and disgusting.
Queer coding Nymphadora Tonks, then putting her in a heterosexual relationship with Remus only for the sake of invalidating Wolfstar
Ableism : I’m sure many disabled people can explain this way better so please feel free to add on to this but jkr when discussing Frank and Alice Longbottom’s condition referred to it as in the books as ‘a fate worse than death’. It’s obvious that it pushed harmful narrative especially towards those with disabilities or similar situations.
There is only so much more so as I reread the books I’ll continue to add onto this list.

hi y’all, it’s Eloíse.
This is so so much time later then my last post and when I expected to return. Honestly I have been on tumblr very minimally but strictly on another account to not possibly interact/read any hateful stuff(refer to the last post for context). I’m pretty much entirely done with my post that blew up over a year ago(?). I would like to say I’ve read a few of the replies, not all of them obviously since it’s a lot but I’ve heard a lot of sides. First off I wanna say thank you to those who worked to have a helpful discussion about the post(I appreciate it alot) and not to those who attacked me personally(I wish this wasn’t such a heated discussion, and I apologize if part of that was due to the standoffish nature of my wording). I just wanted to say I hope y’all are doing good, I only really want to have one last word but to say yes I was over analytical and 100% looking into stuff way too deep that wasn’t there in the text. I apologize for that, I simply wanted to amplify what I had heard in the fandom from the marginalized communities. I do not wish to return to the topic of analyzing Harry Potter, as well as I do not wish to bring up any further drama to the originally mentioned post.
Signing off, Eloíse

literally the last thing i’m saying before i go to sleep is yes i am a minor, and obviously the way we both consume media will be different. but invalidating my perspective just because “minors can’t consume media” is just so wrong. i am fully willing to be educated on where my points are lacking. and jkr’s work is going to have flaws, so many marginalized groups have spoken up on this and how certain parts in the books make them feel(please listen to them and hear them out). Whether you want to believe it, even as a children’s book it can have some issues. Not saying that takes away from it at all, but there are tons of groups of people that have and still will be affected by this media let alone it’s one of the most popular children’s series ever so it’s valid to criticize it

this is just going to be short and to the point, i literally have had a post that recently sort of blew up and received a list of criticism(rightfully so). I understand, many of my points were kind of worded poorly, and I will fix that and do more to educate myself where people have pointed stuff out. And i’ll review those points and work on how my points differ from others opinions to see how i can improve or change them.
next, these are literally my opinions, and this is how me and a lot of marginalized people have felt reading(not all of these call outs I have personally read the first or even third time but many people have spoken out about them i assure you). and you can validly criticize what i posted as long as we can find middle ground in order to under each other’s view points.
tw for this next part for de@th and suic*de:
but lastly please literally don’t send me death threats or tell me to commit, I actually received two and it makes me sick. I’m being serious i am a minor receiving death threats over a post about harry potter. this deeply triggers me and all i can say is please don’t, like actually i’m shaking. i hardly even use this platform but i might leave on hiatus(as this is way past my boundaries)

who on earth told you cho chang is a korean name? it's a chinese name lmfao. let me go tell every chinese person named cho that they've gotta change their name because a moron on tumblr dot com can't tell the difference between chinese and korean
from my perspective i’ve heard a lot of this critism from other people who were chinese or korean pointing this out, frankly i took this information from people of said groups. this helps article kind of phrases whats i’ve heard:
and if i’m wrong and what i’ve heard from the people is group i deeply apologize but i genuinely still stuck to my main point, also if i’m wrong anyone can always send me links to help get educate on this

For anyone who tries to disput the n@zi allegory in the death eaters, JKR has confirmed that allegory. She has said in interviews that yes, the death eaters literally are inspired/allegories from n@zis. Is it that hard for people to realize this???
TOM FELTON AND A FANS ANTI-SEMITIC TATTOO:
Warning: mention of anti-Semitism, nazis, blood supremacy, and hate symbols.
So recently I saw a video on tiktok about this girl who got in Tom Felton’s handwriting, the word “pure blood” tattooed. She originally had dmed him asking for him to write the word for her to get it in a tattoo, he obliged by sending her a photo of it back. She then got the tattoo done, but the real controversy is not only his response/willingness but the tattoo itself.
Here’s the video(the video is no longer up, please do not comment their user to send them hate!):
Why it’s wrong and anti-Semitic:
In the Harry Potter books written by J.K Rowling when talking about blood status, more specifically being a ‘pure blood’ means they held a high level of bias towards those they deemed “dirty” for having any drop of muggle (non magical) blood in them. This created blood supremacy on the idea that ‘pure bloods’ were far more superior for their blood line. This is a very clear allegory for the Nazis. In the books there are blood supremacists called death eaters that like the Nazis held the belief they were superior than any other blood status. Even if the Nazis did not have the same idea of blood supremacy as death eaters, they were blood purist that discriminated against people who weren’t ‘pure’ (in the Nazis case it meant ones blood wasn’t fully Aryan).
Here is a important resource that talks more about blood purity and Nazis:
‘Blood Purity and Nazi Germany’
The Nazis had the ideology that they were “purebloods” or of “pure blood” that needed to get rid of those not of “pure” Aryan descent. In their mission to cleanse the world of the “dirty blood” they killed millions of people. This blood supremacy targeted at people of Jewish and Roma descent.
Let it be known that in interviews jkr has admitted to elements of her story being about real life Nazis. Her book may be fiction but it’s modeled after real life blood supremacists. She has spoke out to say “The expressions 'pure-blood', 'half-blood' and 'Muggle-born' have been coined by people to whom these distinctions matter, and express their originators' prejudices. As far as somebody like Lucius Malfoy is concerned, for instance, a Muggle-born is as 'bad' as a Muggle”. Then going even further to add “If you think this is far-fetched, look at some of the real charts the Nazis used to show what constituted 'Aryan' or 'Jewish' blood. I saw one in the Holocaust Museum in Washington when I had already devised the 'pure-blood', 'half-blood' and 'Muggle-born' definitions, and was chilled to see that the Nazis used precisely the same warped logic as the Death Eaters. A single Jewish grandparent 'polluted' the blood, according to their propaganda”.
Admitting that the Death eaters were a allegory for the Nazis, it’s obvious that the blood supremacy in Harry Potter is another allegory for the anti Semitism the Nazis held. The word is an hate symbol about blood supremacy, so the word she got tattooed is a hate symbol and is antisemitic.
Not only that but if anyone saw the symbol without knowing about the Harry Potter universe, they would it associate with the Nazi regime’s ultimate goal of being “racially pure”. It will seem like you have a neo-Nazi symbol tattooed onto you, even if that was not her intent. The tattoo is still anti-semitic in nature, and you can’t change that.
If you’re asking “Why is Tom to blame if she wanted it?” that still does not excuse either party. He willingly supplied her with the handwriting, he hand wrote a word that not only is anti-semitic but he should’ve refused or done a lot better in that situation. It is a hate symbol. It not that hard if you played a role for ten years to understand the similarities between blood supremacy in the Harry Potter universe to the blood supremacy Nazis held. Death eaters are literally wizard Nazis, they oppress those of other blood status’. How did he ever write it and think it’s okay?? It’s not that hard to realize maybe I shouldn’t write this because maybe death eaters were blood supremacist. Idk maybe think how it’s a allegory for Nazis, and how that word literally is anti-Semitic. Maybe a grown 33 year old could realize that.
Here’s what the tiktok community had to say about it(this is linked because they were too long to fit the 1 minute limit. Please don’t send hate to any of these creators‼️):

Note: DO NOT SEND HATE TO THE PERSON WHO GOT IT DONE. Hate and death threats will not help them, rather they need to be educated, learn how their actions were wrong, and find out for themselves the proper way both address this whilst respecting the communities they have offended/hurt. I DO NOT SUPPORT TOM OR THE GIRL WHO GOT IT DONE WHATSOEVER. I ALSO DONT SUPPORT JKR.

About my last post(talking about things that may come up):
Not going to lie, I said what I said for a reason. Furthermore it’s your right to have your opinion, it doesn’t bother me. I just posted it for a reason, and even if you think it isn’t valid or reasonable please tell that to the Jewish community that has been affect/hurt. I’m speaking for that community and even if you don’t see how it is anti-Semitic, the Jewish community does. And before you ask, I don’t hate Tom because I simply have never had ill will or hatred towards him.
Was my post stand offish and not worded the best? Yes but I admit that but that’s the best job I could have done. Was I calling him anti-Semitic? No I was simply saying he’s grown enough to know that fiction based on real life allegories especially those about the Holocaust are harmful and he should have done a lot better. Why am I not replying to comments? Currently my phone is being weird and not posting comments or on the chance it goes through it posts twice. And I’m not concerned to message everyone who has a problem with me or my lack of support for Tom, I am a human who has a life that doesn’t revolve around this blog. As blunt as that is I am a person and cant always spend time addressing every comment or find the time to. This is my first time today I’ve had time to actually get on tumblr and update this. Just because I made a post doesn’t mean I have to address every little thing. Also even if we don’t have the same opinions I’m always willing to listen to your perspective if you allow me to speak as well, as long as it’s civil I’ll listen(or try to find time to).
That’s all I’m saying for know because I have to get back to other things but even if you disagree with me I still wish you the best and hope you have a good night/day :)

Introduction💞
hi, um so this is my first post:)
I’m kinda new to tumblr but I just wanted to introduce myself. My name is Eloise, and I’m a Hufflepuff. I go by she/her/they/them pronouns. I like reading and listening to music, my favorite artists at the moment are mitski, wallows and girl in red(honorable mention I love lorde). I started this mainly just to post some of my opinions, as maybe a outlet? The fandoms I’m apart of are HP, HH mainly at the moment but I also really like ya fantasy books. I
