I did Hourly Comics day this year (posting mostly on Instagram for an hour-by-hour play-by-play!), and am finally getting around to archiving it. So here it is for the Tumblr friends!

It was a... rather mundane day, but it was fun to get to do this for the second time around (and traditionally, at that!).

Happy 2024, it’s art summary time!

I had about three different comic ideas that I wanted to do to mark the new year, but time definitely got away from me and I ended up doing the shortest and sweetest one.

2023 was, not gonna lie, simultaneously one of the best and one of the roughest years I’ve had in recent memory. Let’s get the rougher stuff out of the way first.

To put it succinctly, post-grad has been fucking HARD. I think I’ve been hanging in there okay, but I would be lying if I said I wasn’t going through it mentally and emotionally. Problems don’t tend to resolve after one, even two goes at it, and that’s been a Lesson to Learn lol. I’m also a little sad that the Personal Project I’ve been alluding to for a couple months now- which is now complete, by the way!- is something I can most likely never share in a normal capacity (for a myriad of reasons, but mostly bc it’s really deep-cutting, vulnerable content that I don’t think tumblr would like)

Moving into 2024, I want to continue to expand the ways y’all are able to connect with my work. It’s a little freeing and a little scary not having art school define my calendar and what I work on. I’m definitely gonna table more, and I’m looking at ways to expand what I can bring to y’all online.

Everyone, hope you had the New Years’ Eve you were looking for, and I hope that 2024 treats us okay. And as always, thanks for all your support. See you round the bend! 💗💗

spring break begins… anticlimatically ☀️ 🌊

OKAY so unless you’ve been around the IRL block, there’s a very good chance you’re asking, “Lily, what’s this!?” so let me answer that question for you: this is a snippet of the first page of my much-talked-about-but-never-shared senior thesis, “Out of Your Shell”!

This was a 32-page comic I visdev’d, wrote, and illustrated between October of last year and April of this year, following Toni, an anxiety-wracked bio student and aspiring artist as they begrudgingly agree to go on a last minute spring break trip with the rest of their class. Contemplations about existing as an artist in today’s world, internalizations of the sweeping Oregon coast, and other college shenanigans ensue.

I won’t be sharing the entire thing on here (I’m still debating when/how I’m gonna release the comic in its full capacity), but it feels remiss not to share it given it took up so much of the past year of my life. So I’ll be posting some of my favorite panels/spreads, along with some developmental material- this panel in particular had a very early concept sketch attached to it! Sometimes the images just come into your head and stick there forever lol.
