LIfe drawing: Focusing on hands and high and dark shades
For the first half of todays session we had to draw 16 hands in 16 different positions. In the session I learnt that its best to draw the main part of the hand first rather than starting with the fingers. This is becasue when starting with the fingers, its hard to add the main body of the hand after and it ends up looking distorted.
I used pencil for my hand drawings in order to add small detail if it was needed. I then used brown paper, pencil and white chalk. I used these materials to create a full portrait of the life model. The brown paper was used as a base tone whilst the white chalk was used for the lighter areas of the model and the pencil for the darker parts.
From this session I have learnt how to create light and dark tones using a life model and the light which was bouncing off of him. This session helped me to visualise how to study light and dark tones on the body.

Life drawing: Using charcoal and rubber on skeleton drawing.
In todays session, we didn’t have a life model because they were ill so instead we drew fernando the skeleton.
To start off we took a big piece of white paper and split it up into 16 sections. Doing this allowed me to draw 16 small studies of the skeleton. I used pencil in order to draw these studies with. I focused on different parts of the body in order to develop my understanding of the human anatomy and how the parts I focused on can help me in the future for further practice.
After doing the 16 smaller studies, I took some charcoal and a big sheet of white paper and smudged the charcoal all over the paper and used my fingers to rub it into the page in order to create the base layer for my drawing. I then rubbed out the high lights of the skeleton and used some more charcoal to get the darker shades. There was a light shining down on the skeleton in order to capture these shades.
I feel that I was able to use the rubber to capture the lighter parts of this main drawing well.

I wanted to develop my vanilla walk cycle by adding in a secondary action. I added in a hat bouncing on the characters head.

Patriacrchy in Chinese Society
For my essay I wanted to research into the social issues within chinese history which is presented within the movie Mulan.
I found that men were seen as higher than women which meant that women weren’t allowed to speak to men unless spoken to. If they were to go against these rules, they would be punished if not, killed.
Women didn’t get the right to choose who they could marry and they also had to look a certain way. Almost like porcelin dolls. White faces, make up styled a certain way.
I also found that women had to learn how to be polite and punctual, whilst also looking after the house. This meant women had to do the choirs before doing anything else.
I also learnt that women had to be the perfect weight in order to marry.
How does this relate to the movie Mulan?:
This research relates to the movie Mulan because the main character Mulan is seen in the first scene in the movie as this woman who has to rememebr her lines, do her choirs, be polite and punctual as well as looking like a bride, ready for marrage.
Mulan comes across as someone who tries hard to please everyone but wants to be herself instead of someone she isn’t.

I wanted to add my linework in for my walk cycle so I can see how its been put together and how the character looks without any details and coloring.

Ball bounce experiment secondary action:
For my second ball bounce experiment, I wanted to add in a secondary action. I have done this by adding a tail onto the ball.
A secondary action is an action which happens after the main object stops moving. This is called follow through.
I like the way the tail follows the same arc of acrion that the ball does.

Ball bounce experiment 1:
For my first experiment with squash and stretch, I made a ball bounce onto the ground. Doing this I have concidered physics and how gravity forces the ball down. I have also thought about the density of the ball.

Dynamic walk cycle KEY FRAMES: Iteration 1
For this first test of my dynamic walk cycle I wanted to create a character which shows the emotions of joy. This is why the characters arms are up in the air and his back is arched.
This walk cycle is not finished because I wanted to see the key frames and how they look before carrying on with this walk cycle. I have also found that the legs were too far apart therefore, making the walk cycle look unrealistic. I like the way the head moves a little as I want the head and the body to turn whilst walking.

Character model sheet
For my character model sheet, I wanted to draw the main character in 4 different positions which shows how the character will look whilst turning around for the character turnaround.
Making this sheet has helped me create my turnaround because before drawing each frame, I can see how the character looks in each induvidual position.
