dont talk to me if you don’t know that this, recruits, is a 20-kilo ferrous slug. Feel the weight! Every five seconds, the main gun of an Everest-class dreadnought accelerates one to 1.3 percent of light speed! It impacts with the force of a 38-kiloton bomb! That is three times the yield of the city buster dropped on Hiroshima back on Earth. That means: Sir Isaac Newton is the deadliest son of a bitch in space. Now! Serviceman Burnside! What is Newton’s First Law?

Sam: I’m going to make out with you in that corner over there.
Kaidan: We’re in the Citadel Tower, Sam. Pretty sure C-Sec isn’t going to be on board with PDA.
Sam: Between the two of us, we’re wearing eight guns and a satchel of grenades. The only thing that could possibly be better than making out with you in that corner is someone trying to stop us.
Kaidan: You’re right, I’m gonna make out with you in that corner over there.

Someone posted their opinion about why they don’t like Kaidan as a gay romance because he was supposedly straight in 1 and 2. here’s the link to that post: http://the-dying-message.tumblr.com/
I know there are a few people out there who feel this way, this is why I feel differently: This sort of thing really bugs me, the Kaidan/Mshep story is flat out the most romantic gay pairing that will ever exist in gaming and disliking it simply because Kaidan wasn’t a romance option in ME1 and 2 is just ridiculous. What makes the romance so special is the fact that you CANNOT romance him in ME1 and 2. It really allows Shepard and Kaidan to become best friends first, then as the series progresses their relationship evolves into something deeper and more romantic as they barely survive life-threatening situations together and overcome Kaidan’s doubts about Shepard and Cerberus, finally culminating in ME3 with the reapers arriving and Kaidan realizing this is probably his last chance to tell Shepard how he’s come to care for him. Not to mention the incredibly moving goodbye scene on earth where they’re all too soon torn apart by circumstance once again but not before exchanging “I love you” for the first and possibly last time. Their relationship developed in this way because of the limitation on male S/S romances in the beginning and will probably never happen again in future video games with later titles having gay characters be available from the start, and while ultimately more fair to all players those characters will nevertheless lack the same amount of repressed feelings/development that makes the Kaidan/Shepard storyline so special. The other s/s option with Cortez pales in comparison, not that it’s exactly Cortez’s fault, he was only introduced in the last game after all and he’s not a squad member nor does he get a good final goodbye scene. You also point out that Kaidan was made bisexual to please the fandom, well why do you think Cortez and Traynor were created? To please the gay fandom of course! The problem I find with them in doing so is that their relationships are more about them being gay than they are about it actually being about two people in love, with Cortez and Traynor making it completely obvious that they’re gay and bringing up real-life gay references (grizzly bears) and starting a relationship with Shepard at a dance club and lesbian shower scene (stereotype much)? Also the way Cortez hooked up with Shepard as soon as he had put Robert’s picture on the memorial wall really bugged me, it was waaay too fast. I love Kaidan’s romance arc because it was never about him being the “gay or bisexual” character, it just happened and felt like a totally natural progression. Plus even though Kaidan wasn’t originally intended to be bisexual it’s not like he was ever a total womanizer either, he only ever mentioned having feelings for a girl once throughout Mass Effect 1 and even then he never actually slept with her. As for you citing Kaidan being a romantic in pursuit of “The Dream” as evidence of him being straight I again disagree because I don’t really see wanting to go find adventure and romance as being an exclusively straight concept, especially since it’s almost 200 years in the future. People have a tendency to want to label everything, including sexuality but the fact is Kaidan never once said “Hey Shepard, I’m exclusively attracted to women.” As for why he never made a pass at MShep like he did with FShep this really isn’t that big of a deal, they were in the middle of the Saren conflict and they hadn’t really known each other all that long. Sure it would have been nice if the option was available but there are more than enough reasons to justify why he wouldn’t (mission priority, military rank, his awkward/shy personality) plus this makes the storyline between Kaidan and FShep/Mshep play out differently which I think is ultimately better than having them be exactly the same. Really what it comes down to is you can’t say Kaidan was a straight guy who suddenly turned bisexual, it was simply never canon and if he had been totally straight Bioware wouldn’t have made him available in ME3. Being hung up on that is keeping you from enjoying what is quite simply a beautiful story between two characters simply because they didn’t hook up as soon as they met one another.

They fall back into their usual patterns so easily. Kaidan can’t believe it actually, as he kneels down beside Shepard inside a prefab unit that’s still standing, med kit out, frantically trying to manufacture yet another suit patch with his omnitool. Bullets zing past outside, some of them…

January Jubilation Gift exchange 2018/19 GIFT!
This is my @masseffectholidaycheer gift for @elkoss-combine. I chose to write him a story with his custom Ryder (Sean), Reyes, Vetra and Jaal. I hope you’re going to like it!
“Ryder, look out!” Jaal’s terrified scream pulled Ryder out his reverie. Sean blinked and the reality slid into place again. Just in time for him to notice through the Nomad’s windshield that the vehicle was heading straight into one of many pernicious Kadaran crevices.
“Shit!” Sean swerved just in time to avoid plunging to their death or at least into a whole world of pain. He caught a glimpse of Vetra in the backseat, her mandibles clenched tight and her whole body tense to the point of snapping like a rubber band. “Whoops. Sorry, guys. Crisis averted, nothing to see here.”
Jaal and Vetra exchanged glances, not even bothering with subtlety.
“Okay, what’s going on?” asked Vetra, arms crossed over her chest. “No bullshit.”
“What’s going on?” echoed Sean, innocence incarnated.
“I said no bullshit, Ryder.”
“I have no idea what you mean.”
“Sure.” Sarcasm in her voice was more biting than sulfur in pre-vault springs. “You’re a shitty driver on your good day, Sean, but today you nearly killed us four times. And it’s not even noon yet.”
“I-” He started but he wasn’t given the opportunity to reply.
“Ryder, look out!” Jaal repeated the warning, this time with more anger than panic.

My gift for @comefeedtherainn as part of @masseffectholidaycheer ‘s January Jubilation Gift exchange 2018/19
pairing: Male Shepard/Kaidan Alenko
rating: T
tags: established relationship, domestic fluff, post-reaper war
Summary:
Kaidan and John go for a walk in the snow, and John beats him to the punch.
Snow Angels
A soft brush of skin against his cheek roused John from a deep but somehow restless sleep. On instinct, he rolled away from the sensation, his leg getting tangled in the sheets, and what remained of his other leg wasn’t enough to kick the covers away. Instead, he settled for grumbling into his pillow, “Five more minutes.”
Kaidan’s gravelly timbre filled John’s ears not even an inch away from his face. Odd. He hadn’t even noticed the bed dipping down beside him to allow Kaidan to get that close. “Nope. I made pancakes. Come on.” He pressed a kiss to John’s cheek.
Still unwilling to get up--it was just so warm under the blankets. Why was Canada so cold? He’d grown up on a ship… a climate controlled ship in space. This was madness. How did Kaidan live like this--he merely pressed his face into the pillow. “Too cold.”
He expected Kaidan’s voice of reason to try again. When that didn’t happen, John opened his eyes to see Kaidan, still in his pajamas, crawling under the blankets with him. “You know if you want breakfast in bed, you actually need to ask. I’m no mind reader. So, five more minutes,” he said, pressing another kiss to John’s skin, this time on the hinge of his jaw, “then it's out of bed for breakfast. We have plans today.”
