You might not realize it, but Elkins-based White River Creamery is now the last farmstead dairy and cheese making operation in AR.
Honeysuckle Lane Cheese went out of business, so Scott and Tessa McCormick and the entire McCormick crew is putting together a Kickstarter Project to buy their equipment and expand our dairy.
This would take White River Creamery from a 30-gallon cheese vat to a 400 gallon cheese vat and help them remain competitive and sustainable.
This is a great family-owned community business making quality artisan products. If you’d like to support them, check out their kickstarter campaign. Those who support the expansion project can receive visits to the dairy to get to meet the new kids, cheese and even naming your own goat, depending on the level that you give. Helping families get ready for back to school
Round Mountain Community Church has organized a community outreach for families in need to help them get ready for back to school. The group is giving away backpacks filled with supplies, free haircuts, health screenings and food. There also will be inflatables for kids to play in at the event. The community event is 10 am this Saturday in the old Harps building in Elkins. Pre-registration is already closed, but you can register at the event tomorrow morning. Children will have to be present with an adult to receive a backpack.

Patriotic Pride - You might notice flags around town on holidays like July 4th. For a small fee Elkins Lions Club offers a flag service for local businesses. Money raised through this service and by staffing the concession stand at community events funds community service projects by the club and eyeglasses for people in need. It's a great organization and a great way to give back. Check out their Facebook page for more info.
